I'm staring out into the night
Scents of spring linger in the air
Flowering trees against black skies
Blind me more than the streetlights

My eyes look at the houses below
Day or night, the city's always alive
People are talking, windows close
A car starts, I wonder where they go

My fingers grip the steel railing
A group of friends is walking by
I watch myself joking and laughing
Dancing to music of a tiny speaker
Feeling drunk on youth and wine
And the stars promise to stay forever

My body's pressing against the icy bars
A couple's bewitched by butterflies
I watch myself lying next to my lover
Whispered secrets fade between blossoms
Moonlight on his curious blue soul
He's bathing in details that define me
Memorizing me down to my molecules
All the heart wants is to be known

I'm staring out at the empty street
Feelings of spring linger in the air
Burying them will be the death of me
I'm waiting for someone to unleash me.
