Chapter 11
"You stupid dog! Get back here!"
The small dog didn't seem to want to listen instead running down the barren streets. Ben was grateful that it wasn't crowded, it'd make a lot of things much harder.
Now where did that dog go?
His eyes scanned the horizon and saw the small white and orange blur speeding down the street. It seemed to be knowing where it was going. It was quite ridiculous but did he have a choice?
No.
So soon he found himself following the dog, muttering curses under his breath and hoping that the small ball of fur knew where it was going.
It was quite doubtful but hope kept him running.
Hopefully hope wouldn't let him down this time.
"You dumb dog!"
At those words the dog began to run even faster and the words of frustration came out from Ben's mouth once again.
"You —"
His words fumbled and soon came to an abrupt stop. In that moment his breath seemed to hitch, caught in his throat.
"Rey?"
He watched her stand over the rocks by the shore and he watched as the same dog he was chasing from before ran over to her.
Ben listened to her laugh and to the sigh of relief that escaped her lips as the dog dropped the ring at her feet.
Rey laughed once again before bringing the small dog up into her arms. Ben wanted to say something. But he couldn't. The words he longed to speak for so long simply stuck in his throat.
Rey, I miss you.
Rey, I'm sorry.
Rey, come back.
Rey, listen.
Rey, I think I like you.
Rey, stop running away.
Rey...
His thoughts were interrupted by her voice, it seemed louder from before. Ben turned towards the sounds' direction and watched her as she came closer towards where he stood.
Crap.
Muttering more curses under his breath he tried to run towards the side but ended up tripping on an uneven patch on the boardwalk.
"Shit!"
"Ben?"
"H-hey Rey."
"What are you doing here?"
"Uh," he reached down and clutched at his bleeding leg. "I was just chilling by the beach you know? Taking a nice relaxing walk."
"Are you okay? Did you do something to your leg?"
He looked down at the gash across his knee before blocking his leg from her view.
"Nope, just a small cut I guess. I'm fine."
"You're not fine. Here," she offered her hand to him. "Lets go to my place, I'll help you bandage that up."
Reluctantly he obligated, taking her hand in his. The two walked away from the sandy shores followed by the same dog.
Ben soon realized he liked the feel of her hand in his, and in that moment he also realized what a delusional mess he was.
She doesn't like you Ben.
She never will.
