Chapter 2: The Big Day
A few months of big planning passed, and just as Dylan promised, we were getting married.
I went dress shopping with Aunt Cassie and she helped me find the perfect dress. It was a pure white ball gown dress and it made me feel like a princess. It was beyond perfect, just like Dylan.
Soon I would be Nicole O'Brien and I would be married to the man of my dreams. I got my makeup and hair done at a salon and I loved the outcome. My hair was pin straight, and I had soft brown colors for eyeshadow with a light pink lip stick. I couldn't wait to see Dylan in his suit waiting at the wedding arch for me.
We decided to have our wedding in a chapel overlooking a beautiful beach, and for the reception, big doors would open so the party extended onto the beach. There would be tents and tables scattered across the beach and I couldn't wait.
I didn't see Dylan at all in the morning, he drove to his parent's house to get ready. But before he left, and I was still in bed, he whispered,"I love you, Nicole. I've been waiting for this moment to come and I'm glad it is today," he kissed my cheek and I heard the front door close.
After I got my hair and makeup done, I put on my gown and vail. Aunt Cassie took a few pictures of me and then we drove to the chapel.
Since my dad passed away, my mom would be walking me down the aisle. I haven't seen her in a while since I moved, but she seemed really happy for me when I told her everything.
Once we arrived, I saw the back of Dylan as he was posing for pictures. I couldn't help but stare a little, he will be forever mine, I thought to myself. I then felt someone tap my shoulder and that snapped me out of my thoughts, it was my aunt.
"Come on Nicole, your mom is here," she said as she lead me to my mom.
"Mom?" I said as I saw the back of her. She turned around and I saw tears in her eyes.
"Nicole..." she walked over to me and we hugged. My eyes started to water, I couldn't control it. "You look beautiful, sweetie," she said as she pulled away. "Now, I've never met Dylan before, but I trust that he is a great man, and if everything is true that you've told me about him, then I think he is perfect for you."
"Awww, thanks mom," I said as a few tears fell down my face.
"I love you, Nicole," my mom said as she pulled me into another hug. "I wish dad were here to see you," she said.
"Me too..." is all I could get out. It was too hard to think about that right now without me starting to cry.
"I hate to interrupt, but I think I hear church bells. That means that the ceremony is starting!" Aunt Cassie said and clapped.
I walked to the big church doors with my mom next to me and Aunt Cassie was holding my dress. I pulled my vail over my face and then the doors opened.
All I saw was Dylan, it was if it were only me and him in the room. He was wearing a black and white tuxedo and he looked so handsome. His eyes started to water, and a tear fell down my face, happy tears of course. I walked down the aisle and the smile on my face never went away.
Once I reached Dylan, I gave my mom and aunt a hug and they walked to their pew. I stared into Dylan's watery golden brown eyes and that caused me to smile more. The tears stopped, but my eyes were still watery.
Then the priest said, "We gather here to unite these two people in marriage. Today they publicly declare their private devotion to each other. The essence of this commitment is the acceptance of each other in entirety, as lover, companion, and friend. A good and balanced relationship is one in which neither person is overpowered nor absorbed by the other, one in which neither person is possessive of the other, one in which both give their love freely. Marriage, ideally, is a sharing of responsibilities, hopes, and dreams. It takes a special effort to grow together, survive hard times, and be loving."
I could not wipe the smile off my face, I was just so happy that this day finally came.
He continued by saying, "Do you both pledge to share your lives openly with one another, and to speak the truth in love? Do you promise to honor and tenderly care for one another, cherish and encourage each other, stand together, through sorrows and joys, hardships and triumphs for all the days of your lives?"
Dylan and I looked at each other and said "We do."
"Do you pledge to share your love and the joys of your marriage with all those around you, so that they may learn from your love and be encouraged to grow in their own lives?"
"We do."
"May these rings be blessed as a symbol of your union. As often as either of you look upon these rings, may you not only be reminded of this moment, but also of the vows you have made and the strength of your commitment to each other. Now, exchange rings and present each other with your vows."
I slid Dylan's ring on his finger, and he did the same for me.
And then someone handed me a microphone and it was time for our vows.
"Dylan..." I took a deep breath and continued. "I remember when we first met, I was a hot mess, but you still had the courage to come up to me and comfort me. Anytime I wasn't myself, you were always there to comfort me and make me smile. When we had our first dance, that was when I realized that I would love to spend the rest of my life with you. Dylan, we are meant for each other, and I love how our relationship started in a park, and it grew bigger in the same park when you asked me to marry you. I love you, Dylan and there is nothing in the world that can separate us."
I passed the microphone over to Dylan and my hand was shaking. He put his hand on top of mine and that calmed me down.
Then he started his vow. "Nicole, when I first saw you, I thought 'such a beautiful girl like you doesn't deserve to be crying'. You were always so open to me about everything, and that meant so much to me. I showed you the park that day because it was breathtaking, just like you. When I saw you lying in the hospital bed in a coma, I thought my life would be over and I would never see the person I loved the most ever again..." he pulled away from the microphone for a second and wiped a tear from is eye. "But when you woke up, I was unbelievably happy, and here we are now. Everything after that went uphill and I can never imagine my life without you. I love you."
Dylan put down the microphone and held my hands causing a few tears to fall from my eyes.
"Go now in peace and live in love, sharing the most precious gifts you have-the gifts of your lives united. And may your days be long on this earth. I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Dylan lifted up my vail and pulled me into a kiss. Tears continued to fall, but they were coming from Dylan too. We pulled away and everyone was clapping for us. We then went down the aisle and rice was being tossed. Then another set of big doors opened and we walked onto the beach. My heels were sinking in the sand so I stopped and took them off. When we were about to start walking again, Dylan lifted me up bridal style and carried me to the dance floor.
A slow song was playing, and I rested my head on Dylan's chest as we slow danced.
"I love you, Dylan O'Brien," I whispered as we continued to dance.
"I love you more, Nicole O'Brien," he whispered back to me. I lifted up my head so we were face to face and placed a kiss on his lips. Everyone was still clapping and cheering, I couldn't imagine this moment any other way.
We danced and laughed the rest of the night. "Our honeymoon is tomorrow," he said as we sat down for dinner.
"I know, you still haven't told me where we are going," I said. Dylan wanted it to be a surprise, and I'm sure it would be amazing.
"You'll see," he said with a cheeky smile. "What did you order?" he asked as he took a bite of his steak.
"Chicken parmesan, it should be coming soon."
"Would you like to try some of my steak?" he asked.
"Sure," I replied. I handed him my fork, and he put a piece of steak on it and I opened my mouth. He slid the fork into my mouth and I smiled.
"What do you think?" he asked.
"It's really good!" I said with a smile on my face.
He laughed and said, "I love you, Nicole,"and he kissed my cheek.
The rest of the night was filled with dancing and then the party was over, and we drove back home.
We probably would've stayed up the whole night celebrating, but we had a plane to catch early the next morning, so I changed into one of Dylan's shirts, a pair of sweatpants and got into bed.
Dylan came in right after me and I laid my head on his chest. He kissed the top of my head and said, "Sweet dreams Nicole. I love you."
"I love you too, Dyl. Sweet dreams."
He wrapped his arms around my waist and I fell asleep. I couldn't wait to see where we were going for our honeymoon.
