The Great Fire Escape?!

"Hello." Sings Molinda her voice muffled by the door. "Are you in there?"

Vic furrows her brows and gestures to the door.

"Don't answer." Mouths Grace carefully placing her hand against Vic's shoulder and silently tugging it away from the door. "Let's talk in the bedroom."

"Grace." Molinda says. "Your car is in the parking lot."

This chick.

Grace releases a large breath of air as she gently closes her bedroom door.

"Flip, that was close."

"Who's Molinda?" Vic questions throwing herself on the bed.

"I told you." Grace whispers. "Gossip girl, remember?"

"Oh, that's her." Vic laughs her eyes sparkling in amusement. "Did you hear what she said?"

Grace shakes her head at the redhead.

" 'Your car is in the parking lot.' " Giggles Vic. "Man, that was creepy."

"Try living next door to her. Sometimes I hear her sneaking out the house in the middle of the night." Grace says. "To do what? Only hell knows. And why do your have to sneak out your own house?"

"Honestly, she can't be that bad."

"She's the reason why I stopped doing my laundry in the apartments laundromat because somehow whenever I went down there she was there too."

"You're kidding." Vic snorts. "Shouldn't you embrace people who are different?"

"You get strange then you get Molinda strange." Grace rambles, her eyes faraway. "And Molinda strange is Archam Asylum strange and I'm no Jim Gordon."

Vic bursts out laughing, holding her stomach tightly as tears roll down her cheeks.

"It's not funny." Whines Grace glaring at her best friend.

"It is and you know it." Vic gasps, her laughs much softer. "Anyway, I better get going."

"Why, I thought you were staying the night." She pouts.

"First of all I'm married can't be sleeping around in strangers homes and secondly I'm almost an hour late for my date with John." Vic says grabbing her handbag and gently slipping on her Burberry sandals.

"An hour late?" Complains Grace. "Why didn't you leave earlier?"

"Grace, I always show up late to our dates. It keeps the spark alive." Vic expresses tying her red hair into a messy bun.

"I don't get." Grace frowns.

"Well, it keeps him wondering." Vic says . "Is she coming? Did she leave me? Am I early? Doing this ensures he doesn't get too comfortable with me. We know that a comfortable man takes advantage."

Grace nods but decides against arguing with her friends warped ideas.

"Whatever you say, girl."

Vic leans over and places a soft kiss on Grace's cheek before making her way to the bedroom door.

"Wait, what are you doing?" Grace asks glancing between Vic and the door.

"Leaving." Vic answers dumbfounded.

"You can't leave through the front door, Molinda will see you." Grace quickly stands in front of the door blocking Vic from leaving.

"So?"

"So, she'll know I'm in here."

"Ug, come on Grace." Vic says her hands against her hips. "How do you suggest I leave then?"

"The fire escape."

"You're joking." Vic mumbles. "Tell me you're joking."

Grace wildly shakes her head pointing towards her southern window.

"You suck." Vic complains prying open the window and tossing her bag onto the metal balcony.

"And I love you too." Grace coos.

Helping her friend out the window, Grace waves as Vic slowly makes her way to the ground and hops into her yellow mustang.

"Can't believe she actually did it." Grins Grace closing the window.

"I'm so fancy, you already know I'm in the fast lane from LA to Tokyo." Grace sings locking her car and striding to the elevator.

After Vic had left last night Grace had made some diner, worked a little and spent a couple of hours binge watching The Magicians before falling asleep on the couch.

Clicking the '1' on the elevator, Grace slides her eyes over her new, hot pink Ralph Lauren heels she had purchased on her shopping spree with Vic the other day. Just wearing them gave Grace the confidence boost she needed to face this day head on.

Stepping out the elevator, Grace perks her head up, puffs her chest out and sashays past the front desk towards the next set of elevators.

I can feel the jealousy.

Grace swings her matching Louis Vuitton bag as a small gust of wind, from the open doors, ruffles her hair.

Ah, the power of a fresh set of shoes.

"Grace." A harsh voice calls for a distance.

Grace snaps back to reality as the vivid colours of the company lobby dim to a bland white and soft grey.

Ug.

"Yes?" She breathes facing Florinda, who holds a black nail finer in her perfectly manicured fingers.

"I called you like 5 times." Florinda scolds her eyes narrowed.

"Sorry." Grace mutters placing her bag on top of the front desk counter. "I was a lost in a world of pink fairies and Dior sales."

Florida snorts her hand on her nose before shaking her head and sliding a card over to her.

"Mr.Maxwell is waiting for you in his office."

Great? Here I thought I'd only see him later in the day.

"So, right now?"

"Yep, babe." Florinda leans back in her chair, her hair in a high ponytail. "You better hurry up, he doesn't like waiting."

"I bet he doesn't." Whispers Grace, her shoulders slumped. "I'll see you later?"

"Around 12, 'kay?"

Grace nods and drops her head as she drags her feet towards the elevator doors.

"Hey,Grace?" Calls Florida leaning over her desk. "Love the shoes."

Grace performs a small twirl and throws her bag over her shoulder, ignoring the stares of the people around her.

"I know, darling." Grace jokes her voice deep and sultry.

"Okay, Madonna, get out here."

Grace steps into the elevator with two other people before pressing the familiar '-1' button and sliding the card, Florinda had given her, over the keypad.

"You're going to the basement?" A gruff voice asks.

Grace nods at the red man, in a tight suit and dusty shoes.

"Good luck." The man mutters staring at the doors his face paling.

It's not like it's my first time going there, dude.

The elevator doors open to a familiar waiting area and Grace quickly nods to the secretary before entering the grave hallway that leads to the devil himself.

"You are brave, smart, bold and unstoppable." Coaxes as she hesitantly lifts her hand and knocks on the door.

"Come in."
