Chapter 9
"Now that we're all alone, let me test your arm again." Sun Pirate reached out for Hoshi's arm. "I'd rather not. I'm exhausted!" She slumped on her bed, causing the air under her blanket to escape. "It's probably just some poisonous plant you touched in the forest." "Whatever. We still need to test it, to see if it's gone!" He walked over to the bed and touched her arm. He soon lifted it off her arm. "If it's a poisonous plant it hasn't worn off. You look tired. I'll leave you here, then." Hoshi collapsed on her bed as soon as Sun Pirate closed the door.
The next day she arose. "Hoshi! You have half an hour to wake up, and then it's opening!" After her mother called her, she peeked under her bed. "I found the middle tree yesterday... Can you tell me now?" North Star crawled out from under the bed. "Fine. But first, what was... that man that was here yesterday talking about? Something about a poisonous plant, for sure." Hoshi picked up North Star. "Well, that man touched a poisonous plant yesterday, and it hadn't worn off. I was helping him test it." the gray cat crawled in her lap. "And what took you so long?"
"Hoshi! Get down here! We're opening early!" She pushed the ball of fluff off her cat and ran downstairs. "We have a huge line to get to. I'll manage the table placement, and you and Hana manage the waiting." Hoshi and Hana scuffled to serve people for hours and hours. Finally, they had covered the line, with one more person. "Hoshi! I waited in line all day just for one meal." Yuu had came to eat! Hoshi guided her to her table and waited on her. "And would you like sweet oil with the cake?" "No thank you. Just one cake and some water." After serving her, Hoshi was given a break, and finally got to go to her room.
"So... What took you so long in the forest yesterday?" Said North Star, with seemingly sharp memory. "Well, um. There was this tree, with markings and swirls in the shape of a constellation! You told me to smack the middle tree of the forest as hard as I could. Thi-" North Star stopped Hoshi. "A tree with markings of a constellation... which one?" "The Ursa Major." North Star started to pace. "What happened next..?" Hoshi continued. "I hit the tree because it looked like the middle tree." The cat dropped to the floor. "What...? No, no, no! What happened next?" She stared at the scarf of the cat. "It started glowing. But then I started glowing too! I don't remember anything after that, though." North Star started pacing. "No... Oh, just great." The cat slithered back under the bed. "Let me figure this out." Hoshi flopped on her bed. "I did something wrong... Was the tree... Related to you? Or maybe it's just a weird tree, and I was-" "Shush! You've caused me more than a headache. Give it a rest, will you?"
