Keith POV
It was the first day at yet another high school. My 9th one. I mentally bet myself that I would only be here for a term. I would either move foster home or get kicked out of this one for 'being a rebel' when really, I was just being me. I told myself not to get close to anyone as I would just get hurt even more when I moved away, which was inevitable.
I sighed as I walked through the welcome area towards the reception and hid behind my shaggy hair. As Shiro spoke to the lady at reception my gaze was drawn towards a gaggle of laughing people at the opposite end of the hallway. As they moved about, I caught the eye of a tallish boy with tan skin and sparkling ocean blue eyes. I stared for a while as he stared back, both of us lost in the other's eyes. But as soon as Shiro stepped back towards me and the group of people surrounding the mysterious boy his gaze wavered and he resumed chatting with his friends. I blushed and drew my protective curtain of hair around my face, but not before catching the smile that this handsome hallway walker shot my way.
I still hadn't forgotten him as I said goodbye to Shiro, or as I thanked the lady at the front desk (whose name appeared to be Cindy due to her name tag) or when I ambled down the corridor and up to the second floor in a half-hearted search for my locker. To be completely honest with myself, I never stopped thinking about him all the way until I slammed into him.
