Song "Through the trees"
Pic of Giovannie. Sexy...but sad
-----
(Giovannie's POV)
We made it to the front of the school in record speed.
students and pedestrians were already surrounding the front, crowding around the scene. Heart pounding, I struggled my way through them, cursing and frantic. "Move it! God damn it, move out my way!"
As I pushed my way through, my friends right behind me, I already knew that I wasn't prepared for what I was about to see. My heart felt like the heavest stone and my stomach crumpled at the thought of what could possibly be waiting for me on the other side of this crowd.
Finally, I stumbled out the sea of bodies and looked around. I spotted the crowd of teachers and a van on the street. It was the only spot not surrounded by many people. Guess they had told everyone else to stay back. I took a step towards them but a body suddenly appeared and blocked me.
"Moretti." Nick gazed down at me. That's it. He didn't have to say anymore for me to know who had been hit. The painful sympathetic sad look in his eyes told me. "Moretti...you shouldn't..."
"It's okay, Nick. Move," I said, voice steady and calm. " I can handle it."
I brushed passed him. Several teachers tried to stop me but I wouldn't listen. I pushed passed them all and they let me. Their half hearted attempts to hold me back told me that they knew exactly who I was. I made it to the street and spotted Hunter's broad back turned to me. He was on his knees, rocking back and forth. He was saying something.
I took a step forward and stopped when I saw the pale lifeless hand on the cement. I don't know how I did it but I managed to continue on walking until I was in front of them. Hunter looked up, eyes pained with unshed tears. Jenna's head was on his lap and her eyes were closed. I stared at her. She was so still...so lifeless.
I knelt down, ignoring the blood, pretending that it wasn't there and that I didn't know who it belonged to. I reached out a hand and hesitated. If I touched her bruised flesh...would she already feel cold to the touch?
"Jenna?" I whispered, touching her pale cheek, "Genevieve?"
Her eyes didn't open.
"Hey," I shook her shoulder, "hey you skank, wake up. Get up, Jenna."
"Son," someone said from behind me. One of the teachers...who was it? I recgonized the voice but I couldn't think of who it was. I couldn't think of much right now actually.
"Son, the ambulance is coming. They're going to take your sister to the hospital..."
He kept talking but I no longer heard what he was saying. Sirens wailed in the distance. I looked up and met Hunter's eyes.
"She won't wake up," I said, voice growing hoarse. I could feel my eyes starting to burn. Jenna...not my Jenna. Why won't she open her eyes?
"Boys," someone said, "move. The ambulance is here.
I didn't move. Instead I grabbed Jenna's hand and held on. She still felt warm...
"They have to take her," someone grabbed me from behind. "Let her go, son."
"No," I whispered. "No!" I screamed louder, struggling. Where the fuck were they taking my sister!? "Let me go! Let go!" I watched, horrifed as Hunter let them take her, putting her lifeless body on a stretcher. I fought them, trying to get to my sister.
"Moretti, calm down," a familiar voice whispered to my ear, "calm down."
Who? Nick? Was that Nick?
"It's okay, Giovannie," he said, holding me from behind, "everythings going to be okay. Please, calm down."
I sagged against him. Calm down? Everything was going to be okay? No...he was lying. My sister was dead. I couldn't feel her existence anymore. She was slipping.
"Giovannie," Hunter appeared before me. His white shirt was covered with blood...and it wasn't his. "Let's go with them to the hospital."
I continued to stare at him.
"Giovannie," he took my shoulders and shook me. "Snap out of it! Jenna isn't dead."
I blinked. She wasn't?
"We have to hurry," Hunter pulled me towards...towards where? I didn't know where he was taking me. I just felt...numb. Should I cry now? I looked at Hunter. He wasn't crying. I looked at Nick. He wasn't crying either. What about me? Should I cry? My eyes burned but nothing would fall. I felt empty. Empty without my Jenna.
"Get in the car," Hunter shoved me in the back of a car. Was it his? I stared out the window. I don't know. I stared down at my hand. Hey...where'd this blood come from?
"Nicky," I said as he got in the front passangers seat, "I'm bleeding."
"It's not your blood," Hunter replied from the drivers seat.
I stared at the dried blood.
"Jesus, he's in shock," Nick muttered, glancing back at me. "I've never seen him like this before."
Hunter didn't reply. I heard the engine start and the car moved. Where were we going? To get Jenna? "Nicky," I whispered. "Hunter."
"What is it, Giovannie?"
"I want Jenna."
Hunter drove faster, "we'll be with her soon."
-----------
(Nicks POV)
Moretti was in shock.
I stared at him through the review mirror, watching his blank expression. He kept staring at the blood on his hand in wonder, as if he was still trying to figure out how it got there.
Damn it, why'd this have to happen to him? Why? and Why Jenna? She was a good girl. Why do these things happen to good people? I just don't understand it. Giovannie's smile was gone and seeing him with this kind of expression, with NO expression...hurt. This wasn't our Giovannie. It was a shell.
The car skidded to a holt in front of the hospital enterence. Hunter jumped out the car and I followed, pushing the seat back to get Moretti out. He stumbled out from the back, staring up at the hospital with wide eyes.
"Moretti," I whispered, cupping his cheeks between my hands, "snap out of it." He looked at me but I had a feeling that he wasn't seeing me anymore.
"Move," Hunter shoved me out the way. "Look at me, Giovannie."
Moretti looked at him and before we could even blink, Hunter, that bastard, punched him square on the jaw. "What the fuck are you doing!" I shoved him away, furious. How could he do that to him? Moretti was already fucking hurting in the inside.
"Stay out of this," Hunter jerked me out of the way, standing firmly in front of Moretti. Moretti stared at him, blinking. "Giovannie, snap out of it, Jenna needs you. She needs you not your fucking shell. Now...do I have to punch you again?"
"Hunter?" Moretti blinked, shaking his head. "No...no...I'm fine."
"Then let's go," Hunter took his hand and guided him towards the enterance. "Jenna is waiting for us."
I followed silently behind them. I mean, what more could I do? I felt useless. Just like when I saw the van coming towards Jenna and couldn't do anything about it. Fucking useless.
Ten minutes later we were in the ER, waiting outside while doctors fought to keep Jenna Moretti alive. My eyes flicked to her brother. He was back to himself again, kind of. He had his wits about him but as long as Jenna was in danger I don't think we'd ever get the same Giovannie back. Ever.
A doctor burst out of the white doors, looking around frantically. "We need more blood! Do any one of you have AB negative blood?"
"I do!" Moretti rushed to him, "she's my sister, my twin. We have the same blood, take mine. Take as much as you need." From the sound of it...he'd give every single drop of his blood for her.
"Nurse!" The doctor snapped, "take this boy to draw some blood, hurry! We need a blood transfusion. The girl lost a lot of blood."
They dragged Moretti away, leaving me alone with Hunter. "Why'd they have to take his blood?" I asked after a while, pacing. "Don't they have any stored?"
Hunter didn't look at me. I thought he wasn't going to answer but after a long minute of silence he did. "AB negative is a rare blood type, there aren't a lot of people with it. They must have not had enough stored here."
"Jesus," I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "This is all so messed up."
The clocked ticked above us and with each passing second, Jenna Moretti struggled, fighting for her life behind those white doors.
And in another room, Giovannie was willing her to live.
