May 1967.
Here I stood, waiting tables at a local, run-down diner. I'm 9 months pregnant. My feet ache. I look like an over-sized watermelon. I'm exhausted, emotional and I need to pee...a lot! Plus, my father kicked my ass out of the house and I'm on my own struggling to make ends meet!
"What'll it be today?" I fake-smiled at the guests sitting at the table. Before they could utter two words, "Ugh." I groaned, doubling over in pain. The patrons didn't seem too happy at my sudden outburst. "Sorry." I moaned, holding my side. Still they weren't impressed.
"OH MY GOD!" I cried, feeling a gush of liquid between my legs. "Someone help me! I'm in labor!"

"It's a girl!" The doctor confirmed, handing the precious pink bundle to me.
"Any names?" She asked, pen and paper in hand.
Beaming at the doctor, " Faith Hope Gordon."
The kind doctor smiled. " Such a lovely name."
Faith and I were left alone to bond together. "Just you and me, baby girl." I gently stroked her cheek, trying to contain my emotions. "I'll be the best mommy to you that I can! Don't ever forget that! Somehow everything will fall in place." Tears rolling down my cheeks, while I cradled Faith in my arms.
