03 || SLUMBER PARTY, SOUNDS FUN
Despite not having slept a wink all night, Selina didn't roll out of bed that morning until she heard enough noise echoing throughout the bunker to tell her that everyone else within the walls were awake.
And probably far less tired than she was, which was evident by her extremely bloodshot and sunken eyes, complete with the darkest circles imaginable beneath them. Ones quite unlike any she'd ever seen present on her face before and she wasn't exactly known for getting decent amounts of sleep.
It's not like she didn't try to catch a few hours, it's mainly that she couldn't. Her thoughts simply wouldn't settle long enough to allow her to. Between those of her time with Crowley and how strangely nice he'd been. To what he offered her, a chance to have the only father she ever knew back again.
It was enough to keep her mind racing all night long and to stop her from getting the sleep her body so desperately needed. But she knew she wouldn't be able to rest until she'd made up her mind, which left her no choice but to drag herself out of bed and start the day.
Drag being a literal term as it felt like a chore to carry herself towards the kitchen, her body incredibly heavy on her feet and her eyes even heavier as they dropped with each step she took. But once she reached the kitchen all that disappeared, clouded by a facade as the absolute last thing she needed was for her brothers to start worrying about her as that only ever ended with them smothering her to the point where she literally wanted to kill them.
But perhaps she was just a little too tired to play up the act like she normally would, as the first words out of her brother's mouth weren't exactly a welcome good morning.
"Whoa, you look like crap." Dean muttered as Selina shuffled into the kitchen, stifling a yawn as she fired a glare in his direction.
"Good morning to you too..." She mumbled, unamused as she trailed her tired eyes over the unusual addition to his outfit, a slight chuckle leaving her lips at the frilly apron he had tied around his waist. "Mrs Doubtfire."
Dean's cheeky grin dropped almost instantaneously, as did his head as he went back to cooking his mass amounts of bacon, pretending he didn't hear the faint, and not at all subtle, laughs coming from Sam and Kevin, who currently occupied the kitchen table.
Rather pleased with herself, Selina delved further into the room, beelining for the coffee pot and pouring herself a rather generous helping before she all but fell into the seat next to Kevin. She knew no amount of caffeine would ever help her feel less tired, but she knew she needed something to at least try otherwise she wouldn't last the day without collapsing. Again.
"Did you get any sleep last night?" Sam asked, concern riddling his voice and his eyes as his brows knitted together tightly above them.
"Not exactly." Selina replied, leaning her head against the tiles of the kitchen wall.
The coldness of them offered her a touch of relief as that first, barely lit, spark of a headache ignited deep within her skull, having her eyes squeeze shut as she could really do without this today. She let out a quiet sigh, the soft pats of footsteps causing her to reopen her eyes just in time to see Dean take a seat in front of her, his plate piled high with bacon.
"What? Was killing fifteen demons not enough to knock you out?" He said humorously, but with a hint of worry rattling around inside his deep voice.
Offering him a shrug in response as she didn't have a proper answer, Selina took a long sip of her coffee, feeling the warmth trickle down her throat in a way that she enjoyed. She was still a little cold, as she had been since the trials had messed her up, so any chance she could get to have some heat in her bones, she'd happily take.
Even if it meant burning the taste buds off her tongue.
"So last night, I, uh..." Selina began, biting anxiously at her lip as she hesitated, unsure whether bringing up the whole Crowley thing would be the best idea. "I was talking to Crowley. You know, after the whole thing..." She added, waving her hand briefly in front of her. "And he, uh, he offered me something."
"Offered you what?" Sam asked suspiciously, after exchanging a look with Dean. One that told Selina that this was, indeed, not a good idea. But she was in too deep now, so she had no choice but to keep going.
"A deal." Selina breathed out, immediately raising her hand to silence her brothers, who had both opened their mouths to protest, as she corrected herself. "A free deal. For saving his life."
"Cat, there's no such thing as a free deal, alright? Not when it comes to Crowley anyway." Dean replied distastefully, setting his mug down a little too vigorously as some coffee sloshed over the edge. "Don't you remember Bobby's deal?"
"Of course I do, Dean." Selina said, wishing she hadn't brought this up at all as she really was too tired to deal with it right now. "But... I'd be doing this for Bobby."
"Wait, what?" Sam intervened, his brow furrowed as he glanced puzzledly towards Dean, who was equally lost as he just shrugged his shoulders a little. "What do you mean for Bobby?"
"Crowley said..." Selina sighed, threading her fingers through her hair as she was now slowly filling with doubts about whether or not Crowley meant what he said about the deal being free. "He said he'd bring Bobby back for me. For us."
"He said that?" Sam exhaled, his mouth a little gaped as he honestly couldn't believe what he was hearing.
All Selina did was nod her head, not trusting her own voice as she avoided eye contact with her brothers. She didn't need to see the look in their eyes, the one she knew was there. The one that was about to come spilling out of their mouths to crush her very soul when they forbid her from accepting the deal.
Selina knew they wouldn't let her, why would they? Especially when they had to go to such lengths to free Bobby's soul from Crowley's grasp when he double crossed him and refused to give it back. She knew it was risky, accepting a deal from a demon like that but he was different now, she could see that. Her brothers couldn't, and probably never would, but Selina could. She could see it clearly now despite how fuzzy her mind currently was.
"Well he's lying." Dean said bluntly, snapping Selina from her thoughts and causing her to slowly lift her head as the soul crushing began.
"Is he?" Selina whispered, her voice a mere croak as she could barely manage to get it out.
The weight of the deal was sitting heavy with her now, just the mere thought of having Bobby back was enough to make her want to risk handing her soul off to Crowley if it meant having him around again.
"Of course he is, Cat, he's a demon." Dean replied a little softer, although his brow was deeply furrowed over why Selina was even debating with him over this given her previous, absolute hatred over all demon kind. Crowley included. "Demons lie."
"Look..." Selina said around a sigh, taking a mouthful of coffee in attempts to get her voice back. "I know Crowley's lied to us before, believe me, I know. But this time... This time it's different. He's different. And don't you think there's a chance... A small chance that with all that human blood, all of my blood, still coursing through his veins that he might be telling the truth?"
Was that her being a little too protective over Crowley? Probably. But she didn't care. Not when their own happiness was in play here.
"No." Dean said immediately, his closed fist banging lightly against the table top, rattling the dishes on it as his finger extended, pointing in the general direction of the dungeon. "Because people like him... Demons like him. They never tell the truth. And they never, ever do anything for free."
"Dean's right, Cat." Sam said softly, as he knew Selina didn't need both of them being heavy on her. "We can't trust Crowley, not after what he did."
Sam's eyeline moved, casting over Kevin who had remained so quiet throughout this whole ordeal that Selina had actually forgotten he was there otherwise she'd never have brought Crowley up. Especially after what the demon did to him. And his mother.
His mother.
Selina's eyes widened a little, more so than she ever would have expected them to, given her tiredness and the current situation. But she couldn't help it, not when the lightbulb inside her mind suddenly flickered on, shining so brightly inside her head that she forgot all about her own happiness.
"I'm sorry." Selina stood from her seat, causing Kevin to lift his head from where he'd been staring down at his phone. The background image of himself and his mom displayed on screen only adding to the confirmation that Selina needed to go through with this. "But I'm doing this. And you can't stop me."
Stepping out from behind the table, and ignoring the calls of her brother's as they mirrored her motions, Selina darted towards the kitchen door, almost bumping into a rather confused looking Castiel who'd been on his way in. She heard him ask what was going on, heard Dean mutter something about her being stupid but she didn't care, she was doing this whether they liked it or not. And nothing short of Castiel flying her somewhere far away would ever stop her from doing what needed to be done.
The dungeon door went flying open, probably making Crowley think more demons were coming to kill him as Selina jogged her way into the room. Faint, fast paced footsteps followed hers through the corridors, voices overlapping as the others were hot on her trail in their attempts at stopping her from going through with this.
But Selina ignored them, her hands wrapping tightly around the shelf and she used what little of the strength she had in her to pull them apart, revealing the demon within just seconds before her strange little family came barrelling into the room after her.
"I know what I want." Selina babbled out, her voice a little breathless from running so fast. And on zero hours of sleep too.
"Cat, don't."
"Don't keep me waiting, darling, do tell." Crowley replied, his signature grin creeping up on his face as Selina ignored Sam's plea from behind her. He watched intently as she stepped up towards him, pushing Dean away as he tried to pull her back before she could cross the devil's trap.
"Mrs Tran." Selina said plainly, Crowley's brow dipping a little as his gaze moved from her, coming to land on Kevin whose shock filled, and deeply saddened, eyes had widened.
"Come again?" Crowley murmured, attention shifting back to Selina, her chest moving rapidly with each breath she took.
"You offered to bring someone back for me." Selina said in a softer tone than before, her eyes casting over her shoulder to land upon the young prophet, whose own were already beginning to water. She smiled thinly, nodding her head once at him in assurance before turning it back to Crowley. "I want you to bring her back."
"Who said she was dead?" Crowley's head tilted, his eyebrows raising a little over his scheming eyes.
"You did." Dean was the one who replied, sternly, and with his arms over his chest as he resisted the urge to stick a knife in Crowley's chest.
"Did I?" Crowley's gaze shot towards Dean, who was eyeing him suspiciously. "Maybe I was lying."
"Or you're lying now." Castiel gritted, taking a few steps towards the demon with his fists clenched before he was stopped by Selina, who placed herself between Crowley and the rest of the room.
"Who cares." Selina snapped, her glare sending Castiel back a few paces until she turned back to Crowley. "You said..."
"I know what I said, darling." Crowley replied, less bitterly than he had been with her brother. "But now I'm saying that she's not dead."
"Where is she?" Kevin demanded, his voice breaking slightly as took a step forward.
"She's locked away... Hidden." Crowley told him, never once looking away from Selina, feeling a small touch of worry creep up inside his chest over just how tired and rundown she looked.
"Tell us where she is." Selina spoke up, her voice matching the look on her face that only accelerated Crowley's worry. "You owe me this, Crowley."
"I owe you." He lifted his handcuffed hands, the chains jingling softly as he pointed briefly at her. "I don't owe Kevin."
"I don't care." Selina shook her head, folding her arms over her chest which ached terribly beneath her as she gave up the one thing she wanted more than anything. "I'm cashing in and I'm asking you to tell us where she is."
"I can't tell you where she is..." Crowley began, Selina's lips twitching a little out of anger and he knew she was about to say something harsh before he added. "But I can take you."
"No way." Dean answered before Selina could, gently pushing his sister aside and taking her place. "No way we're letting you out of here so just tell us where she is, or I'm gonna..."
"Gonna what?" Crowley cut him off, his jaw tensing a little but he couldn't stop himself from chuckling. "Kill me? You do that and you'll never find her."
"Dean, think about it." Selina turned to him, nudging his arm to draw his attention away from Crowley before he snapped and did something that wouldn't help them at all. "This is a chance to get Kevin his mother back. I mean, after everything he's done for us, do you think we owe him that?"
Dean sighed in defeat, running his hand over his chin as Selina was right. Getting the kid his family back? They did owe him that much.
"There is one other thing." Crowley interjected, gaining pretty much everyone's attention just before Dean could reluctantly agree. "If I do this... If I show you where she is then you let me go. I take you to her and then I walk away... A free demon."
"Not a chance."
"Deal."
"Excuse me?" Dean turned to his sister, having trouble believing the word that just left her mouth. He took a light hold of her arm, hissing through gritted teeth. "Can I talk to you please?"
Dragging Selina gently away from Crowley, Dean cocked his head towards Sam, motioning for him to follow them as they stepped out of the room and into the not so private corridor. Dean did know both Castiel and Crowley would be able to hear him, didn't he?
"What are you doing?" Dean's hushed voice exclaimed, his fingers eventually unravelling from around Selina's arm.
"What?" She replied, rubbing the spot where he'd held her as he hadn't been as gentle as he thought he had.
"What? You're talking about letting Crowley go, that's what." Dean spat unintentionally. "Are you out of your mind?"
"What use is he to us just locked away in here?" Selina asked, folding her arms over her chest. "What has he given us besides a few useless names? I mean, we're talking about reuniting Kevin with his mother? Don't you think that trumps your dire need to torture Crowley by keeping him here?"
"I hate to say it Dean..." Sam began hesitantly, a soft sigh leaving his lips as he couldn't believe he was agreeing. "But I think she's right."
"And what if he's lying, huh? What if he's leading us into a trap?" Dean questioned, his eyebrow raised as he ignored the smug look rising on Selina's face at Sam's agreement. "What if she's actually dead?"
"Then he brings her back like he said he would." Selina replied, her patience wearing thin as she was too tired to keep going much longer. She pinched the bridge of her nose, sighing deeply as her eyes shut for a split second. "I know you don't trust him, Dean. But we have to try... For Kevin's sake."
Selina didn't give him so much as a single second to think, let alone to agree, or disagree, with her before she strolled right back into the dungeon, Sam on her tail as he dug into his pocket for the key to Crowley's shackles. He tossed it to his twin, standing back to allow her to unlock the demon as something told him things would go a lot smoother if Selina was in charge.
"Okay, Crowley, here's the deal." Selina said sternly as she began to unlock his collar for the second day in a row. "Until we get wherever it is that we're going the cuffs stay on and if you're messing with us... You can kiss your freedom goodbye, got it?"
"You're in charge, love." Crowley replied, relishing in every single brush of Selina's fingertips against his skin, no matter how light they were.
The second he was free she pulled away, dropping the collar onto the concrete floor with a thud as Crowley got to his feet, stretching out his back which cracked loudly as he did.
"You sure you wanna come with?" Sam asked softly as he approached his sister. "You look like you could use some sleep rather than a car ride to God knows where."
"I'm going." Selina said sternly, glancing briefly at Crowley out of the corner of her eye, her stomach fluttering in a way that made her a little uncomfortable when she noticed him still staring at her. "Something tells me I might need to be there to act as a buffer between Dean and Crowley."
"Fair point." Sam mumbled, tilting his head in agreement as he wouldn't exactly have tried his hardest to stop Dean from stabbing the demon when he so much as opened his mouth.
Eventually, after practically forcing Kevin to stay behind with Castiel, the Winchesters and Crowley set off in the Impala, in the general direction of Massachusetts. Obviously Crowley wouldn't be giving them anything more than the general direction, at least not until they were close enough anyway.
And given that it was a roughly twenty-five hour drive, it would be some time before he gave them any more directions.
It was coming up to the fifth hour into the day's drive and already Selina was bored. She always hated being cooped up in the back of the car with nothing to do. And today was even worse as she was unable to even stretch her legs because Crowley was currently sitting next to her, making her wonder why they hadn't simply taken the cuffs off him and had him teleport them there, save Selina from going crazy.
Or rather, save Sam from going crazy as every so often she'd poke the back of his neck with the tip of her pointed nail, making him scratch at his skin as he hadn't figured out it was her yet. That was until she upped the ante and started pulling his hair, making Crowley smile to himself over her childish behaviour.
"Cat." Sam grumbled in warning, barely glancing back at her as her face clouded over with innocence and she avoided looking at him. The second he faced forwards Selina was quick to tug at his hair again, making him spin around and slap at her hand. "Quit it!"
"What? I'm not doing anything." Selina said innocently, rolling her lips as Sam glared at her, lingering for longer than necessary before slowly turning around again. And of course the second he did she reached forward, pulling sharply on only a few strands of his hair as it seemed to hurt more when there was less hair involved.
"Cat!" Sam snapped around towards her, slapping at her hand and he was all but climbing over the seat to try and reach her.
"Hey, hey!" Dean shouted, smacking his hand against the steering wheel as he did and gaining the attention of both troublesome twins. "Don't make me turn this car around."
"Uh-oh, daddy's getting mad." Crowley said humorously, feeling rather pleased with himself when a soft snort came from Selina as she tried to stifle her laughter.
"That's enough outta you." Dean fired back, unable to fully see Crowley from his position behind him. But he could see his sister and if looks could kill, she would be meeting with a reaper right about now. "And you... Behave."
"Yes dad." Selina pouted sarcastically, having Dean roll his eyes as they returned to focus on the road.
The second they left her she rolled her own, which came to land on Crowley who couldn't help but look amused. He'd never seen this side of her before. The childish, immature Selina that came out when only her brothers were around. All he ever got the pleasure of seeing was the sarcastic, serious Selina who was all about business and even though he liked that side of her, it was nice to take a peek behind the curtain, so to speak, to the real Selina.
The Selina he was quickly finding himself wanting to see more of. And preferably without her brothers around to ruin the vibe.
"Can we at least get some music? I'm sick of listening to Sam breathing." Selina muttered, sliding over to the middle of the seat, her arm brushing against Crowley's in a way that normally wouldn't have bothered him.
But things were different now so forgive him for finding himself slightly flustered.
Lifting herself up, Selina leaned over the front seat, pushing Sam to the side a little as she began to fiddle with the radio. She didn't hear Crowley swallow thickly, couldn't see how he tried his absolute best to look anywhere but at her.
But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to stop his eyes from landing back on her, trailing themselves along the length of her body that was so close to him he could feel the surprising lack of body heat she gave off. Her shirt had risen a little, showing off her lower back and Crowley could see the top of her lace underwear peeking out from beneath her jeans, making him feel like he was sweating under his shirt and demons didn't even sweat.
"Will you sit down?" Dean grumbled, pushing Selina back which had her fall against the backseat, knocking shoulders with Crowley in the process. "Just go for a nap or something, please. You're acting like a child."
"Jerk." Selina mumbled, sliding over to her own side and allowing Crowley to breathe again.
"Bitch." Dean fired back out of habit, exhaling deeply as he just shook his head and focused on the road.
"Here..." Sam began, fumbling around in the glove compartment and soon pulling out a little something that might stop Selina from getting on their nerves today. "Play with this."
Selina's eyes widened a little as Sam passed her Nintendo over his shoulder, the one Dean had taken off her as the last time she played it she almost made him crash the car when she finally beat that really hard Mario level she'd been stuck on for days.
She smiled a little as she flipped open the pink device, the startup music playing softly, making her think she was going to be able to play it until suddenly the screen faded to black, dropping Selina's smile with it. Of course, an empty battery, why would she have any luck today?
"Awesome." Selina grumbled, clapping the device shut and throwing it aside, ignoring the apologetic look Sam fired over his shoulder as she simply sighed and leaned her head against the window.
Should Crowley mention his ability of electrokinesis, meaning he could charge the device for Selina with a simple touch? Probably not. It would only annoy her more as he'd need the cuffs taken off to do so and he knew Dean would rather have her act like a child than ever agree to do that.
"There's a diner up ahead." Dean pointed out to no one in particular, gesturing just up the road with his finger. "We'll stop there and grab a bite."
"Good idea." Sam agreed quietly, knowing that Selina was probably more hungry than she was bored as she hadn't eaten all day. And perhaps if she had some food in her she'd stopped irritating him.
Maybe... Probably not though.
The car soon pulled into the diner parking lot, the gravel crunching loudly beneath the tyres as they slowed to a stop, the engine shutting off and the squeaking of the doors hinges breaking the silence as they all clambered out.
The first thing they did, they being Selina, was cover Crowley's cuffed hands with his jacket, making sure no one could see underneath it as that would only raise questions. Questions that would be answered easily with a flash of their fake police badges but still, they'd rather eat in peace than have to explain to people that they were transporting a prisoner in the back of a classic car.
With the bell jingling softly, the four of them entered the diner, the delightful aroma of food having Selina's stomach growl loudly and she might have been embarrassed about it had she simply not cared. Everyone's stomach grumbled when they were hungry, it wasn't a big deal if hers did too.
They took a seat at the corner booth, the one furthest away from the other diners. Sam and Dean took one side, leaving Crowley and Selina to sit at the other, the former at the wall with the latter pressed up beside him in a way that made him unable to focus on anything else but the touch of her body.
At this rate he'd prefer to sit beside Sam if it meant Selina wouldn't have him feeling like this. He was a demon for crying out loud. He shouldn't be feeling anything.
Soon enough their food came, exciting Selina the most as she'd gotten her favourite, lasagna. With garlic bread. And a side of fries as she was extra hungry. Dean got his favourite too, a bacon cheeseburger with all the toppings and of course Sam got some sort of salad, this time with chicken as he must have been feeling adventurous.
And given that Crowley was a demon who didn't eat, he got nothing but a cup of coffee that he wished was scotch.
"How are you doing by the way?" Dean asked towards his sister, his voice garbled as his mouth was currently full of food. And plenty of it as a piece of tomato couldn't seem to fit in and was currently hanging from his lips, making Selina scrunch hers up a little.
"Do you have to eat like that?" She muttered, rolling her eyes as she popped a fry into her mouth, watching with minor disgust as Dean simply smiled, causing the piece of tomato to fall onto the table. "And I'm fine."
"Fine?" Sam scoffed, earning his twin's attention. Well some of it as she wasn't fully with them right now given her tiredness. "Cat, you look like a zombie."
"So I didn't sleep last night, big deal." Selina replied exasperatedly, sipping her milkshake through a straw. "It's not like I haven't pulled all nighters before."
"Yeah but those times you weren't recovering from almost dying." Dean pointed out, taking another large bite of his burger and ending up with a blob of ketchup sitting on the corner of his lips.
"We almost die all the time, that was no different." Selina told them, feeling how Crowley tensed a little next to her which only had her mind start to wander again as normally a phrase like that should bring him joy rather than... Uncomfortableness?
Strange, he never usually showed any other emotion other than anger and cockiness.
"I'm fine, okay?" Selina added, taking another sip of the frothy goodness in front of her. "So just drop it already and stop mothering me."
"Fine." Dean agreed around a burp, his closed fist hitting his chest as he stopped for a second, another quieter burp leaving his lips before he dug into his burger for another bite.
"God, it's like eating with an animal." Selina mumbled, taking her own forkful of food as she cast her gaze away from her idiot big brother.
After they'd eaten, the four of them quickly left the diner, eager to get back on the road so they didn't have to spend longer than necessary on it. It was barely late afternoon and they weren't even half way there yet, which meant every second they spent outside the car, meant they had longer to spend inside, which for Sam and Dean was like Hell given that Selina was in one of those moods where she wouldn't settle down.
And to think she was running on fumes and yet she could still so easily annoy the both of them.
"Shotgun!" Selina called out, shoving Sam aside and making him stumble a little as she rushed towards the car and climbed into the passenger side before he could protest.
She was always sick of being thrown in the back all the time and after what she did last night, she figured it was well within her rights to sit up front.
The others weren't far behind her, Sam sulking in the back as he glared a hole in the back of his sister's head, his knees firmly touching the front seat given his gigantic height which only made things more uncomfortable. Not to mention the demon sitting an arms length away from him, who was looking at Selina in an entirely different way than Sam was.
But Selina was too busy rummaging around in the glove compartment to notice either of them, flicking through old maps and brochures until she found what she was looking for.
"Aha... Got you." She said triumphantly as she slammed the compartment shut, a cassette tape held up between her fingers as she turned towards Sam. "Thought you could hide this from me, didn't you Sam?"
"Please don't." Sam muttered, sighing exasperatedly at the name written on the tape.
"Am I missing something?" Crowley asked curiously, his eyes shifting from Selina to Sam, who looked even more annoyed than when she'd been pulling his hair.
"It's her roadtrip mixtape." Sam replied, shaking his head as he watched Selina insert the tape into the player, wishing he'd thrown it in the trunk instead.
"Liven up, Sammy." Dean called towards him with a smile, the rumble of the engine following behind as they made a swift exit out of the parking lot.
It was barely seconds after they set off down the road did the first verse of Def Leppard's 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' start drifting through the car, having Crowley raise his eyebrow at Selina's choice of music. Although just looking at her, he wasn't overly surprised.
"Oh God." Sam mumbled, sinking down into his seat as much as he could when both Selina and Dean began to sing along with the lyrics, the latter tapping on the steering wheel in rhythm with the beat.
"Are we one hundred percent certain that Selina is your twin?" Crowley asked, leaning towards Sam who simply huffed out a laugh, finding himself in agreement with the demon. For once.
"Sometimes I ask myself the same thing." Sam replied, deciding to try and ignore the mini concert happening in the front seat by looking out the window.
Crowley on the other hand did nothing but focus on said concert, able to drown Dean out and pay all his attention towards Selina. Her voice was like, well normally people would say it was like an angel but Crowley knew angels, and they didn't sound like that. No, it was more like a siren. A voice so intoxicating, so tempting, that he'd happily throw himself overboard if it meant he got to hear it forever.
But unfortunately he only got the pleasure of listening to her for an hour or so before the carpool karaoke came to a standstill. Selina had grown tired. Really tired. So tired in fact that she turned the music down rather low and leaned her head against the window, where she eventually fell fast asleep and even a rather deep pothole followed by one hell of a swear word leaving Dean's lips didn't wake her up.
Thankfully, as every single person present in the car knew she needed to sleep before she completely crashed. And when they eventually pulled into a motel for the night, Dean was almost tempted to carry her inside if it meant she wouldn't wake up. But he knew better than that otherwise he'd end up being strangled by her when she thought he was a monster, so instead he nudged her lightly and retreated back to a safe distance.
"Relax, it's just me." Dean said calmly, his hands held up in surrender when Selina awoke with a start, her fist clenched in front of her and had he been closer to her she'd have probably punched him.
"Where are we?" Selina grumbled, relaxing her hand and running it down her tired face as she yawned deeply, stretching out her back as best she could.
"Motel just outside of Chicago." Dean replied, opening his door with a creak of the hinges. "Come on, Sam's checking us in."
Selina simply nodded her head, mirroring Dean's movements as she climbed out of the car, only having to stand there for a minute or two before Sam came strolling towards them with a displeased look on his face.
"So they only had one room left." Sam began, his voice as annoyed as he looked as he held up the key. "Only two beds." He finished, eliciting a small groan from Dean.
"Slumber party, sounds fun." Crowley said in amusement, his signature grin rising on his face. "Shall we braid each other's hair?"
Crowley's comments went ignored, but not unheard, by the Winchesters, the oldest of which simply grabbed him by the scruff of his collar and began to lead him in the direction of the room. It was bad enough that they talk to him like garbage sometimes but to treat him like such? Well normally that wouldn't have bothered him much and all he'd give them was another witty comment or a threat about what would happen if they touched him like that again.
But now it just made him feel... Annoyed? Run down perhaps? Maybe even a little bit sad as here he was helping them do a good thing, albeit the hard way, and yet they still went and treated him like this.
Not Selina though, and he was thankful for that, as she was the only one who seemed to treat him with some decency lately, which may be why he was finding himself growing more, how should he put it, addicted? Perhaps, to her lately.
But whatever, he was sure that would go away once the last remnants of her blood left his system.
The motel room door swung open, the four of them getting hit with the smell of musty old wallpaper and a slight hint of damp. The room wasn't anything special, it pretty much looked like every other motel they'd ever stayed in, only this one had a lot more questionable stains on the couch that they were normally used to.
"Is this how you people live?" Crowley said with obvious disgust. "I'm getting the clap just standing here."
"Okay." Dean grumbled, tossing his bag into Sam's hands before he grabbed Crowley by the lapels of his jacket and sat him roughly down at the table, the chair scraping loudly against the floor from the impact.
"Really, Dean?" Crowley scoffed, catching sight of the second pair of handcuffs Dean pulled from his pocket. "Where's the trust? I mean, I have your sister's blood pumping inside my veins, we're practically family."
That clearly touched a nerve as the second the words rolled off Crowley's sharp tongue, Dean had grabbed him once again, pushing him back against the wall.
"Listen, jackass... We are the furthest thing from family, you hear?" Dean spat, a faint sigh coming from behind him. "And once we get Kevin's mom back, you better pray that I don't see your ass again any time soon."
"Dean." Selina said sternly, grabbing her brother by the shoulder of his jacket and yanking him back, allowing Crowley to slid down the wall a little and fix his askew jacket. "That's enough."
Shoving her hand off him, Dean fixed his own jacket, picking up the handcuffs he'd dropped in his anger driven mood. He was quick to loop them through Crowley's current pair, attaching them to the pipe just next to him and rendering him unable to stand up.
"I need a drink." Dean mumbled, heading towards the door which slammed loudly when he exited, with the handcuff keys in his pocket so even if the others wanted to undo Crowley, they couldn't.
"What's got his panties in a bunch?" Crowley asked, his voice a little huffed as he didn't appreciate being thrown around like that.
Not by Dean anyway as he'd much prefer it to be Selina. And in a totally different way. Which, the second he thought of it, made his brow dip deeply, his mind clouding over and he didn't even hear Selina answer him. Or hear her and Sam talk about the sleeping arrangement.
God, the sooner the human blood fully leaves his system, the better. As he could not keep thinking these things about a hunter. And especially not one whose last name was Winchester.
The clicking of the motel door brought Crowley back to reality, Sam having left to go check on Dean and make sure he didn't get into too much trouble. Which meant only Selina remained in the room, and that wasn't exactly good for Crowley's whole 'stop thinking about her in ways that made him feel human' plan.
Selina had already changed into her pyjamas whilst he'd been deep in thought, her face free of makeup as she settled on one of the beds, the one furthest from Crowley as she knew Dean wouldn't want her sleeping so close to him. The springs of the mattress creaked beneath her, being the only sound to ripple through the otherwise, slightly awkward air around them.
All she wanted to do was climb into bed and fall into a light coma until morning, but she wasn't overly sure whether she should. Not with the King of Hell mere feet away from her. And even if he was cuffed and even if she thought he was different, she couldn't take the risk of falling asleep without another person present in the room.
But she could barely keep her heavy eyes open so she was starting to wonder how long that would last.
"You should sleep." Crowley said softly, gaining Selina's attention as a warm smile rose on her lips, her hand running slowly over the back of her neck.
"Yeah, I probably should." She agreed, a whisper of a chuckle escaping through those still risen lips. "But then again, what sort of hunter would I be if I fell asleep, alone, in the same room as the King of Hell?"
"I'm handcuffed, love." Crowley pointed out, barely able to lift his hands any further than a few inches. "There's not a whole lot I could do."
"I guess." Selina shrugged, leaning down to grab her hairbrush from her bag. "Still, better safe than sorry." She added, beginning to brush at the ends of her hair before making her way up.
"For the record..." Crowley began, his voice quieter than usual as he avoided direct eye contact with her. "I would never hurt you."
Selina didn't say anything. She didn't even know what to say to that, so instead she just continued to brush her hair. The words kept rattling around inside her mind as she did, making her stomach flutter in a way that she did not particularly like. And that kept confusing her as to what, and how, these godforsaken feelings for Crowley had even developed in such a short period of time.
A few weeks ago she had loathed his very being, and now here he was, giving her more butterflies than she'd ever felt before and having her wish he wasn't a demon so maybe she could do something to ease that swarm inside her.
But he was a demon.
And no matter how much Selina wanted it, or how much she prayed, he always would be a demon. Therefore, she had no choice but to hope that once she was fully recovered from the trials, that her developing feelings for Crowley would fade away rather than grow any stronger; otherwise, she might not be able to suppress them for much longer.
