She felt a new kind of pain
Blossoming within her
One that ached at times
Then stabbed
When most she needed to rest

This new pain
Was so unknown
Yet it felt like it'd always been there
Dwelling somewhere deep within
Dormant and waiting for a chance to strike

Now it attacked
Slow at times but merciless at others
It closed tears within her throat
Stole her breath and killed her words
Diminished her appetite
And made her weak
With loneliness and sorrow

This pain gripped her
Tore at her and tried to break her
But then again
She'd suffered much worse
Others had suffered much worse
So she would endure
She could endure
Because she was strong

This new pain hurt
But it would not break her
