I turned around and looked at Harry's face... his jaw was clenched and his eyes were on fire. I pulled my hand away and faced him with a hard expression on my face.

"I lied to you," Harry said surprisingly, but his face was straight.

"I knew it," I said.

He held my hand again and took a step towards me and said, "But everyone have their share of secrets, don't they?" He asked raising an eyebrow at me.

"Yes, they do, but I told you mine and..."

"Yeah, you surely did and I tell you a secret here, I knew a girl called Alison and she changed my life. Fine! We're equal now," he said and released my hand.

I must say my mind became numb for a second. Everything seemed so confusing.... I suddenly forgot I was a detective and Harry was a criminal or a member of a criminal family, all I could see was his eyes that were telling a different story. But I just couldn't stay there any longer and I turned away.

I don't know why, but all the steps that I was taking towards the door seemed heavy and just when I turned the doorknob Harry said, "So even you're going?"

"What do you mean?" I said without turning around.

"Like-- like -- forget it!" He stopped speaking and then there was silence, but after a while he spoke again, "I thought you were my friend."

His words hit me like dagger. For the very first time, I felt like I was committing a crime... I was playing with his emotions, I wasn't his friend, but then why was I feeling bad?

"Friends? Well, friends don't hide things from each other," I said finally gathering courage.

"Yeah... I would have told you my secret, but then there's something that even you are hiding from me. The day you'll tell me about it, I'll tell you my secret promise!"

What he just said blew me... does he mean he knows my secret? Wait he cannot know. Oh I'm so messed up!

I couldn't face him any longer and I did what was best at that moment. I run away.
