Why Do You Stay With Me?
Dean And Sam
11:48pm, Motel in Beacon Hills
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dean slipped on his beer and looked at the stars as he leaned over the railing on the side of the motel. He and Sam finished up early so Sam went to bed, yet he couldn't sleep. He looked at the little specks of light in the sky and wondered what would happen if they all exploded. Probably, they would be slowly falling to Earth and no one would know until it was too late. They would all die in some fiery explosion.
He took another sip from his beer yet nothing came out. He looked in the bottle and realized it was gone. He sighed. He still didn't feel any more calm.
"Hey."
Dean jumped out of his skin. He flipped around and noticed Castiel standing there.
He pressed a hand to his heart and asked, "Can you warn a guy before you just zap yourself here?"
"Sorry." Castiel said looking down.
"What are you doing here anyways?" Dean asked, still jumpy.
Castiel looked up at him and asked, "Are you disturbed in any way?"
Dean glared at him, "I'm not crazy Cas." He lifted the bottle to his lips then remembered that it was empty and dropped his hand.
"You just seemed to be in distress the past few days." Castiel said.
Dean spread his arms like he was presenting something, "Congrats you have figured out a primal point of my personality."
Castiel corrected himself, "More than usual." Dean turned away. "You woke up yelling in your sleep." Dean took a deep breath and rubbed his temple. "People don't do that unless something is wrong." Dean fidgeted. "What's wrong?"
Then Dean turned to Castiel, eyes blown wide and terrified. His hands were shaking and the beer bottle fell to the ground, shattering into a million pieces.
The sound made Dean jump and stumble back, but he tripped over his own feet in his haste and fell. Yet, before he hit the ground, Castiel rushed up to him and cradled his head, preventing it from hitting the ground. Dean gripped Castiel's arm and with glazed over eyes he yelled.
"Are you real!?!"
Castiel touched his face gently, "Yes, I'm real and this is real."
Then the door of the hotel room opened and Sam ran out with his gun locked and loaded. He took in the scene before him. A smashed beer bottle on the porch with Castiel sitting calmly next to it, holding Dean's head in his lap while he fidgeted and tried to grasp onto reality.
"I can't do this anymore!" Dean roared.
Sam pocketed his gun and knelt down besides his brother.
"You don't have to." Castiel whispered and ran a hand over his temple.
Dean visibly relaxed, yet his eyes were still glazed over.
"What did you do?" Sam asked Castiel.
"I relived some of the pressure, some of the clutter in his mind. He's still in hell, but it's not as intense as before." Castiel explained.
"He's in hell?" Sam freaked out.
"Well imagining his time in hell." Castiel said, caressing Dean's cheek.
"Well can you take him out of there?" Sam asked.
Castiel's eyebrows pushed together and he said, "If I did I don't know what the repercussions would be. It could destroy his mind."
Dean yelled out, "I don't want to!"
Sam took his brother's hand and said, "Dean! It's Sam, your brother. You feel this," Sam dug his nails into his brothers hand and Dean hissed, "this is real. It's pain and it's in real life! Come back to real life!"
Sam dug his nails harder into Dean's hand and Dean yelled out, yet his eyes cleared. So Sam let go of his hand.
Dean sat up and rubbed his hand, noticing the little crescent shaped marks on the back of his hand.
"Thanks." Dean said to Sam.
"Of course." Sam replied.
Then Dean looked at Castiel and said, "Thank you for lessening the clutter. I couldn't concentrate on anything."
"You're welcome Dean." Castiel said.
"Hell Dean." Sam said, "That's why you have been waking up screaming the past few days."
Dean shrugged, "It's my problem."
"No it's not." Sam snapped, "You think you have shoulder the weight of the world, yet you don't. At the very least you don't have to shoulder it alone. You have me and you have Cas. You have people that you can talk to and share this burden with Dean." Sam sighed, "We live life's that are full of crap and fighting. So you're going to go crazy if you don't unload your crap on someone once in a while. I can help and so can Cas. You need to accept help for once in your life and stop giving it."
Dean closed his eyes and told them. He told them about the nightmares, - he left out the gorey details - about the screaming, about the sleepless nights and how they have been getting more frequent in the past month.
"I can help with your nightmares Dean." Castiel said.
Dean opened his eyes and nodded. Sam smiled sadly at the pair then shivered. The weather reminding him that it was December and he was in a short sleeve shirt and sweatpants. So he nodded to Castiel and Dean and slipped back inside the heated hotel room.
Dean laided there for a moment more before he sat up in front of Castiel.
Dean cleared his throat and asked, "Why are you still here?"
Castiel tilted his head and looked at him, "Why would you say such a thing?"
"I'm a mess Cas and my brother is not much better. Why would an angel want to hang out with two messed up humans like us?" Dean said, looking into his blue eyes.
"Dean." Castiel said gently, "I rebelled against my home, I am not accepted into there anymore. I did that out of my own free will because I believed it was right and I believe in you two. I believe that you two have a lot of good left in your souls. I would rather have a few years with your brother and you than an eternity up in heaven."
Then Dean probably did the most stupid thing he has done this week. He launched forward and smashed his lips in Castiel's. Castiel was caught off guard, but soon he kissed Dean back. There were no words exchanged for the next couple minutes, just them kissing with the moon overhead. When Dean started to shiver, Castiel touched his chest and warmed his bones.
Eventually, Dean fell asleep in Castiel's arms. He was calm and felt secure. Castiel carried him back into the room and laid them both down on the bed. Castiel hugged Dean for the rest of the night. Castiel rubbed at Dean's temple periodically, making sure he slept soundly, peacefully. They would have to talk in the morning, but for right now that didn't matter. All that mattered was that Dean was sleeping peacefully for the first time in a couple months and that was perfect for right now.
Everyone was peaceful and everyone was happy.
