The second dance
Steve's POV
I sat inside the training hall. I had been sitting on the floor against the wall for a few hours. Just dealing with my thoughts, as they were many. After the first hour, the lights went off and I was left in the dark. My heart suddenly skipped a bit as the doors opened and I looked up. Natasha went inside the room with firm steps. She hadn't noticed me yet. I was surprised to see her change of hairstyle. She had dyed it more dark red and had a new haircut. Of course, it looked stunning. I watched her go to the boxing area as she put up her hair in a ponytail. I was surprised by that as well, she never wore her hair like that. It suited her though. She looked beautiful in an ordinary way. She then put on some boxing gloves and started punching a bag so hard I was afraid she'd break her hand. This went on for a while and she even started kicking the bag. I sat there, with wide eyes, watching her anger towards the bag become even bigger. After about ten minutes of punches, she suddenly leaned her forehead on the bag. The room was still a little dark so I couldn't see her eyes. She started hitting the bag again but only once before she let out a little sob. She hit it again and another small sad sound came out of her mouth. She hit the boxing bag quickly seven times before she fell down to the ground with her head in her hands. I stopped breathing at the sight and felt a pain in my chest. It dug deep down as a thousand knifes. She pressed her knees to her chest and I could hear her breathing heavily. I slowly stood up and began walking to her. She heard me before I even stood up and she dried away the tears from her face before I even had begun walking.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you where in here.." She said with a small voice. I could tell she tried to make it stronger but failed.
"You don't have to talk." I said and she nodded a little before I sat down beside her. I wrapped my arms around her and she dug into my embrace.
"I just.. I can't get the baby out of my head. It feels.." She began before she took a pause. Her voice would break into a cry other wise. "It feels like I killed it." She said and the voice echoed in the room. "Like I killed my own child. Just like I did to all those children.. The hospital fire.. It's all coming back."
I took her hand and she squeezed it hard. "I'm the reason for so many deaths. And it makes sense.." She said.
"What does?" I asked softly but nervous about the response.
"That I didn't deserve to have this child." She said with a deep breath. She dried away another tear with her hand before she looked at me. Her eyes met mine and my heart twisted a little at the amount of sadness in hers. "But you did." She said as another small sob got out of her mouth even though she tried to burry it deep down her throat. "Maybe I'm nothing more than what I was before. Than what they made me. Than what I made me." She said as she stared straight forward. Her eyes was red and tired. All the happiness and joy was long gone from her face. It was like a black and white movie that took place as a expression on her face.
"Natasha, don't do that." I said as I wrapped my arms around her a little harder. "You know who you are. None of this is your fault. And if.." I began but felt my voice shaking a little. "And if this baby wasn't born, it was for a reason." I said and she looked at me.
"What possible reason would be a reason big enough for our child to not be born?" She said. Her voice was a little cold and hard, a response on her sadness. I felt my breathing become uneven at the mention of 'our child'.
"I know it doesn't make sense because I can not believe how something that beautiful could be taken from us. But I know it's going to be okey." I said and Natasha breathed out a bit. She got a little calmer by my words but I was just as tense.
"Yeah." She said a little quiet. We sat like that for a while. Thinking and wondering with my arms still around her.
"I like your hair." I said after a while and she looked at me with a small smirk.
"You really know when to choose your moments don't you?" She said and I smiled a little.
"I'm not good at pep talks.." She said and I looked at her. "But I'm here you know.." She said and I smiled. I put my hand on her cheek to turn her head to face me. I looked into her eyes a few second before I closed mine and suddenly leaned in to kiss her. I didn't touch her lips but waited for her to close in which she did, seconds later. I became a little warmer and my thought disappeared.
Natasha's POV
Steve's shield came flying over my head and I moved away just in time as it hit one of our enemies. Thor had brought us avengers to some planet, who knows where, to help him fight a war against some weird alien creatures. Clint arrow flew behind my back and hit its target. I looked over at him, upset why he had to shoot so close to me but he just smirked as a response. I shot two aliens and punched another one in the head. I held out my hand to punch another one as something hard suddenly hit my hand and I used it to hit the alien. When it fell to the ground, I looked at my hand and was startled by the fact that I once again held Thor's hammer. My eyes widened and I looked at Thor who watched me intensely. His eyes were even more wide then mine and his mouth dropped open. I quickly let go of the hammer and it fell to the ground. I tried to play it of and began fighting again as if nothing had happened. After a while, all the aliens were dead and Tony landed beside Thor who stood at the same place as before.
"Romanoff?!" He suddenly said in an angry tone, making Steve turn around.
"Thor?" I said, trying to sound unmoved by his words.
"How could you..." He began. He looked like he was a three year old, being taught a different language.
"You held my hammer. You're worthy." He said and I tensed. Clint looked at me with a confused expression and Steve pretended to not understand which didn't help at all. His bad acting wasn't fooling anyone. The hulk landed hard behind Thor and we are were quiet for a few seconds before Tony began laughing. He laughed until he had to hold his hands over his aching stomach as we just looked at him. After three minutes, he stopped. He dried away the tears from his eyes and pointed at me.
"You're telling me.. Black Widow, the deadly assassin.. Is worthy? Worthy of ruling Asgard?" He said before he cracked up in laughter again. Steve's face turned into an angry expression and his jaw did the thing it always used to do when he was upset. Rather hot if you ask me. He started walking around a bit to distract himself from probably running up to Tony to strangle him. Tony kept laughing as Thor suddenly threw his hammer hard towards Steve and I reacted on my reflexes. I jumped towards Steve and put him out of the was as I caught the hammer in my hand. Tony's laugh faded quickly as his mouth dropped open. As they all stared at me I just raised my shoulders.
"I don't know." I said with a tired voice. "It's probably broke or something." I said as I threw the hammer towards the hulk. He managed to grab it with his big hands but flew away with it. We all watched him disappear further away. They all turned back to look at me.
Thor looked upset and I sighed.
"Number one, I don't know why it's possible. Number two, I don't want it to be. And number three, I will not take Asgard from you." I said and Thor breathed out a bit. Steve looked at me with a small smile and I just shock my head. I started walking away with Steve following. I slowly walked past Thor and leaned in to his ear and whispered:
"Or will I?"
Steve's POV
I changed page in the newspaper and grabbed my cup of coffee that stood at the table. I took a sip and carefully put it down.
"You have to be more careful or you'll drop it." A voice suddenly said and I smashed the cup hard to the table. I turned around and found Natasha laughing at me.
"I actually didn't mean to startle you. But I succeed anyway it would seem." She said and I smiled.
"What are you doing here?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Well, I can go if you'd like.." She said but didn't even bother to take a 'pretend step' away as my hand caught hers. She smirked and smoothly hugged me from behind.
"I got something for you." She said as she handed me a cd.
"What's this?" I said as I looked down at the cover. It read 'Tony Bennett'. I looked up at her.
"I grabbed something old but good, I figured you'd might like it." She said as she stood up, watching me.
"Thank you." I said smiling and she shock her head.
"No I'm not giving it to you." She said and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"So I'm borrowing it from you.." I said and she shock her head.
"No, we're going to dance." She said and I raised my eyebrows.
"What?"
"We didn't get to finish it the last time." She said and I smiled. "What are you waiting for?" She said and I raised my eyebrows again.
"Oh you mean now?" I said and she nodded. She took the cd and put it on. I recognise the first song. It's called "the way you look tonight" and it's pretty lovely.
"I knew you'd know it." She said and I smiled at her.
I stretched out my hand for her to take and she put hers in mine softly. I smoothly dragged my fingers over hers before I held it. I put my hand around her waist and she put hers on my shoulder. We started moving and it felt just as good as the last time.
"You're getting better at this." She said and I smiled.
"Really? I usually have a hard time concentrating when my teacher is so beautiful." I said and she smiled.
"That's too bad." She said and I raised one eyebrow.
"What is?"
"Teachers and students aren't allowed to have romantic relationships." She said and I chuckled as she made a twirl and got closer to me.
"Lucky I'm not a student then." I said and she put her head on my chest.
"Why did you want to dance?" I asked and I could feel her smiling into my chest.
"Don't laugh." She said and I smiled.
"I promise." I said.
"I think that time when we danced at Clint's house, I think that was the time I fell in love with you." She said and I smiled brightly.
"Well that's not fair!" I said and she looked up at me.
"What?"
"That's when you fell in love with me?" I said with a disappointed but teasing voice. She chuckled.
"What? When did you fall in love with me then?" She asked.
"That first day I met you. After you punched me to the ground!" I said and she cracked up in laugher.
"Really?" She said laughing. I nodded.
"Yes." I said and she smiled.
"Well, I'm sorry but you didn't really impress me that day." She said and I chuckled.
"It's wasn't a good day for me." I said and she nodded.
"Believe me, I noticed." She said. We started dancing slowly again and she put her head on my chest again. Natasha looked up at me with a wondering expression.
"Do you think we'll ever be happy?" She asked.
"I'm kind of happy right now." I said and she furrowed her eyebrows a bit as if she hadn't thought about it. The idea of her being happy now was something so unusual for her that she hadn't even bothered to think it.
"Me too." She said with a surprised voice and I kissed her lips. She kissed mine back, slowly but hard. We kissed until the song ended and as we stopped, I stared into her deep green eyes and smiled, knowing I had everything I needed right in front of me.
A/N
Hey fellas. This isn't the last part but the next chapter will be. Sad I know, or maybe you're just glad to get rid of me. 😋
If you wanna get some extra feeling into the dance part, put on the song "The way you look tonight" by Tony Bennett on Spotify or something when Natasha puts it one. It gives a great feeling of how it would be when they danced.
Anyway, take care of yourselves and the last chapter will be here soon enough!💗
