Chapter 9-Welcome to the Underground

I should have seen it coming. Humans had been winning the war for a long time. It was only a matter of time before they found a way to banish us. It happened in the middle of the night, but the rumbling of the ground woke everyone up. The houses began to sink, the ground was shaking like a hurricane. I wasn't sure what exactly would be the best protocol for safety, but the three of us huddled in a small closet. We stayed in there for hours, not saying a word. Finally, the rumbling stopped.

"Sans, I want you to stay here with Papyrus. I'll be right back." I said, handing Sans his little brother. He was about to object, before I gave him a stern look. I hate to raise my voice or anything of the sort, but it could be a life or death situation. Sans closed his mouth, and nodded slightly. I knelt sown and kissed the top of his head before I left the house.

Everything outside was chaos. We were all in a dark area, filled with golden flowers. Monsters were everywhere, running in a panic. No one seemed dangerously hurt, so I tried to calm everyone down. Eventually, people seemed to calm down as the King and Queen came out to help. I rushed back to my house, hoping that Sans and Papyrus were still safe. I heard someone singing softly, and I slowed my gait.

"You are my sunshine. My only sunshine. You make me happy, when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take, my sunshine away." I opened the door to my bedroom, and say Sans rocking Papyrus softly as he sang. Papyrus was asleep, but there were faint orange trails down his cheekbones were he had been crying. Sans was facing away from me, with his hood pulled up, but I could tell he was crying by the sound of his voice. I moved forward to hug them both, and Sans stiffened before he relaxed.

"I thought you weren't coming back." He whispered, holding Papyrus a bit closer.

"I'll always come back. No matter what." I replied, picking him up carefully. "You're getting a bit big for this." I said, chuckling a little.

"Where are we going?" He asked, rearranging himself so he and his brother could both be comfortable.

"To see our new home." I said, leaving the house.

We may be Underground now, but we are still monsters. We are still strong.
