Chapter 10-A Few Years Later
It's been a few years since we fell underground. Monsterkind stated in just a few rooms, but it became small after we lived there for too long. The King's son died recently, and all of us mourned his loss. However, the King was blinded with rage, blaming the humans. No one knew if it was because they were the reason we were there in the first place, or if there they had something to do with the mysterious death.
The King decided monsters needed more room, and took a group to explore the rest of the Underground. Eventually they returned with news that the rest of the Underground was a safe place for monsters. We began to move forward, but the Queen refused. She wished to stay, to remember the things she'd lost, but continue to love the things she hadn't. The King and Queen had a massive fight, which, in the end, changed nothing. And so, our Queen stayed in the newly dubbed "Ruins", as the rest of monsterkind moved on. The King never brought her up again, and soon other people began to forget about her. I never did, but I did not bring her up, knowing it would stir up unnecessary drama.
The King quickly set up a new Lab for me, in a place he called Hotland. Our king never has been good with names. I began to work furiously, trying to find a way out of the Underground. But, so far, there have been no breakthroughs. Sans, after his sixth birthday began going to a new school that had been set up nearby. He was still a rather popular boy, but his best friend was still Scorch, the girl made of green fire. Time passed quickly, and still I hadn't found a way out. I was beginning to lose hope.

I sighed, pushing aside yet another failed experiment. Everything had been going wrong for almost five years now. I feared monsters may have to live without ever seeing the sun again.
"Dad, Dad!" I smiled as I turned around and opened the door to the hallway leading up to my Lab. I still thought it was to dangerous for my boys, although Sans would wonder in every now and then. However, he wasn't the one at the door.
"What is it Papyrus?" I asked my youngest son, who was beaming up at me. I couldn't remember the last time I saw him frown.
"I made dinner! Well, Sans helped a little, but it was mostly me!" He said, holding his arms up to me. I chuckled a bit, before picking him up, making his smile grow even more.
"Really? What did you make?"
"Spaghetti!" He replied, bouncing slightly in my arms. I laughed again, and he joined me with his strange laugh. It was honestly more yelling than laughing.
Papyrus began his fascination with spaghetti at a very young age. It was the first solid food he could eat, and it was the first food he knew how to make. And yes, he could cook at the age of five, as long as someone helped. He had a true gift.
I carried him to the kitchen, grinning at Sans as we entered the room. Sans was, at the age of ten, a slightly strange child. He seemed much to mature for his age, and he often had strange night terrors he refused to tell me about, but he seemed relatively carefree today. He'd probably hung out with Scorch at school. I could never tell if there was a romantic interest between the two of them, but if there was, it wouldn't have bothered me. She was a very nice girl.
"So, spaghetti again?" I asked, setting Papyrus down in is chair. Sans simply shrugged.
"Who am I to defy 'Master Chief Papyrus'?" He asked, making me laugh again.
"I am a Master Chief! And one day I will serve spaghetti to the entire Underground!" Papyrus said, grinning like a mad man.
"I guess your family is a good place to start." I replied, smiling down at him.
Yes, we were stuck Underground. But it was home, after five year, and as long as I had my sons, I wouldn't give it up for anything.
