14. This Boy

"Can you believe that Brian? He broke up with Pattie just like that." I huffed sitting back into the couch after having just retold the entire story of the evening to my uncle Brian the next morning.

"Isn't that a good thing?" He asked puzzled as he tied his tie, getting ready to leave to the film studio.

"I," I shook my head unable to think of a good answer to his question.

"He seemed so happy with her." I ran my hands along the sides of my face with confusion.

"This is my fault." I groaned feeling sick to my stomach. I hated the thought that if I had kept George from being happy, even if Pattie and I didn't get along.

"It was George's decision. He's a grown man Poppy, I'm sure he knows what he's doing." Brian assured me waving me off dismissively.

"I suppose." I grumbled looking down to my hands.

"Right, lets get a move on then." Brian spoke beckoning me over to the door.

"Welcome back to Beatle talk here on BBC radio, today we're talking about news that has Beatlemaniacs everywhere heartbroken," The host spoke on the radio as my uncle and I drove to the film studio together.

"Pattie Boyd and George Harrison are rumoured to have split Friday after having been last seen together at John Lennon's house." He announced making me tense up and look over to my uncle wide eyed, seeing him staring at the radio with a bewildered look etched over his features.

"Yesterday George was photographed walking around London with another girl who had been seen with Paul and John the previous week-" my heart began to sink further and further down as I listened. I felt my palms begin to sweat as I tugged at the collar of my blouse, feeling suffocated suddenly.

My uncle turned off the radio and looked to the road silently, trying to process everything for a moment with a grim look.

"People are going to start asking a lot of questions about you Penelope." He informed me with a sigh as we pulled up to the studios, seeing the massive amounts of fans outside the gates.

Brian flashed his ID to the security and we made it through quickly while I began to feel anxious because of all the screaming girls.

We parked and got out hearing the loud screeches of girls from either side of us growing louder and louder. I felt extremely paranoid walking through the parking lot and kept my head down the entire way, not wanting to get possibly somehow recognized by any of them if they had seen the photographs taken of any of the boys and I or had been listening to the radio this morning.

We soon entered the building and maybe it was just my growing anxiety, but I felt as if eyes were on me as I walked through to the studio they were filming in.

As we walked in Cynthia's eyes lit up as she waved to me with her free hand, having Julian in the other.

I giggled seeing the two of them together as I split away from my uncle who was going to stand with some of the men that were watching Ringo and "Paul's grandfather" act in a scene together.

"And what's it all come to in the end?" Paul's grandfather asked with a grimace.

"Yeah, what's in it for me?" Ringo asked defensively.

"A book." He cringed.

"Yeah, a blooming book!" Ringo exclaimed throwing the book down on the table angrily.

I watched in awe, I found it so intriguing that they had all found an interest in acting, they were really enjoying themselves while filming I could tell.

"Happy Birthday Jules." I grinned ticking his stomach as I finally reached the two of them. He giggled joyously exposing his four tiny front teeth that were fully grown in.

"It's already been a whole year. Can you believe that?" Cynthia beamed smiling lovingly down at her baby boy.

"Time flies by." I smiled looking between the two of them, nodding my head.

She paused staring at me for a moment with a spreading smirk that made me slightly uneasy.

"What?" I chuckled uncomfortably.

"Well, you remember how I said that I wanted to set you up, and you told me to go right ahead?" She spoke slyly, looking to Julian with a large grin as he giggled.

"Yeah?" I nodded creasing my eyebrows.

"-and you remember Victor Spinetti? The actor in the boys film who was staring at you the other day?" She seemed to be getting excited, looking back to me for a response.

My eyes bulged out of my head as I realized what she had done.

"He's older than my uncle Brian Cyn, he's thirty four." I whispered completely distraught, my uncle was only twenty nine and I wasn't so sure about how I felt about a fourteen year age gap between the two of us.

"I think you should give him a chance." Cynthia looked away from me to the set.

"Anyway, I've already told him you'd go out with him tomorrow afternoon." She smirked to herself.

"Cynthia." I groaned.

"Speaking of the devil." Cynthia sang as she stared far off behind me.

I held my breath as Cynthia had a huge smug grin growing across her face.

"Hello Vic, this is Poppy." She introduced us as he appeared between the two of us.

"Hello." He smiled looking directly to me flirtatiously, his dark eyes fixed on me lustfully.

I forced a smile on my lips as I looked over to him.

"May I just say you look even more stunning up close than you do from the set." He smiled  making me smile slightly, I could tell he was trying to flirt with me and I really wasn't sure what to say. It felt wrong for some reason, although I should've been very flattered.

"Thank you." I giggled slightly at his compliment blushing slightly.

"Poppy is so excited to go to lunch with you." Cynthia pushed making me shift bashfully, feeling extremely embarrassed.

"As am I. I've made reservations for Wilton's tomorrow, I hope that works for you." He spoke very politely with a smitten smile.

"Yes, that sounds lovely." I nodded keeping the slightly forced smile on my lips.

A part of me was kind of excited to be going out with him, but the majority of me thought this wasn't a good idea.

He flashed a huge smile with his pearly white teeth shining.

"Hello." George greeted abruptly as he, Paul and John all appeared between Victor and I, Paul being the closest to me and George being the closest to Victor.

"Hello." I laughed sincerely watching them being slightly squished together.

"What-er-What's up?" Paul asked crossing his arms looking between Victor and I.

"I was just asking Poppy to lunch." Victor nodded uncomfortably underneath all three of the boys intense stares.

"W-what did you say?" John asked looking over to me intently.

I began move my mouth without being able to say anything.

"Yes." I managed to reply meekly.

I looked to Victor who had the corners of his lips turned upward as he looked at me sweetly.

"Does anyone have a lighter?" George asked John and Paul quietly.

John fished into his pocket and handed it to him.

"And a cigarette?" He smiled innocently.

John reached into his other pocket and handed him one from his pack rolling his eyes.

"Excuse me." George excused himself before leaving the group of us.

I watched crestfallen as he left. I really wished he had kept his promise to me and stopped smoking, but we weren't together, so I suppose it didn't matter if he did or not anymore.

They all soon left to get to set and I excused myself from Cynthia to go to the bathroom.

As I was about to open the door back up to leave the ladies room, I heard voices from the other side of the door quite clearly.

"You mean you didn't smoke it?" I heard Ringo speak, almost laughing.

"Of course not, I just, panicked." I heard George reply fiercely.

I felt a sense of excitement blast through me and my spirits were lifting once again. I put my ear closer to the wooden door to get a better listen.

"You know, if you want to do something about it, you better do it soon." Ringo spoke pressingly. I frowned not knowing exactly what he was talking about as I tried to make sense of it.

"I know, I know. Look, I better get back to set, we'll talk about this later." I heard George sigh before the sound of footsteps getting further and further.

Do something about what? He couldn't mean, Victor and I could he?

Maybe I was just hoping that was the case, but I couldn't be certain what Ringo was talking about.

My heart fluttered nervously as I straightened myself and opened the door seeing Ringo, gasping quietly turning to walk away quickly.

"Poppy." He smiled making me freeze in my tracks.

I turned to him and smiled tensely.

"Ritchie." I exclaimed in delight.

"How is the eye?" He asked grimacing slightly.

"Sore. I'm wearing makeup on it now but it's pretty purple." I chuckled.

He nodded.

"Anything new happen?" Ringo inquired kindly, seemingly not knowing much about the date Cynthia had set me up on.

"Erm, nope. Anything with you?" I asked nonchalantly.

"Nothing." He shook his head with a shrug.

"You went out with George yesterday?" He asked with a small smirk.

"Oh, it wasn't like that." I shook my head looking away from Ringo's electric blue eyes in embarrassment.

He looked at me seeming to have expected a different answer.

"Are you sure? I mean, in the papers-" He creased his eyebrows.

"I was meeting with my dad." I said forgetting momentarily that I hadn't told Ringo about my father.

"Y'what?" He looked utterly shocked.

"Yeah, y'what?" John asked bewildered from behind Ringo having heard what I had just said.
