Annika's Truth

Shivaay catches hold of her arm, not bothering anymore if it hurt her. The garlands from her hands dropped as he dragged her into his room and pinned her to the wall. He stared at her. She stared at him. Her eyes fixed at his. None moving their gazes. Only difference was that Shivaay's eyes were so full rage and vengeance that it appeared as of they may as well shoot fireballs from within, whereas Annika's eyes were moist. She was hurt. Emotionally and physically. She wanted support. But her only support was busy causing her pain.
"How.. Dare... You.. Annika" Shivaay says, still not calmed.
"Shivaay, aap meri baat-- (Please listen--)"
"Nahi sunni tumhari bakwas. Samjhi? ( I dont want to listen to your crap! Get it?)"
He was hurt too. More than ever. His name from her lips sounded like the most melodious hymn. But he had his own way of expressing his pain.
"Tumhari himmat Kaise hui mere ghar me apne kadam rakhne ki? (How dare you step into my house?)" He shouts.
"Shivaay yeh mera bhi ghar hai! ( This is my house too!!)" Annika says.
"Achha? Toh yeh baat tumhe hum sabko, iss ghar ko chhodne se pehle yaad nahi thi? Bolo? Chup kyu ho? BOLO ANNIKA!! (really? So why didn't you remember this before leaving us? Tell me! Why are you quiet? TELL ME, ANNIKA!!)" He screams as he smashes a vase down.
"Shivaay, please shaant ho jaaiye. Main aapko sab batati hu. ( Please calm down. I'll tell you everything.)" Annika pleads.
"Shut up shut up shut up. Just shut up Annika. Aur niklo mere ghar se. ( Get out of my house!)" How he wanted to stop her. To take her into his arms now that she's back. Instead, here he is. Throwing her away. No wonder she left him.
"Shivaay aap aur aapka gussa. Abhi bhi wahi hai. Jab aap gusse mein hote hai, toh aapko kuchh pata nahi chalta. (You and your anger! Whenever you're furious, you know not what you speak!)" Annika says.
"ANNIKA, OUT!!" He says while motioning toward the door.
"Shivaay please. Ek baar... Ek baar meri baat toh sun lijiye... (Just once.. Just once listen to me!)" Annika says, sobbing.
"Mujhe-- Hume chhod ke chale jaane ka koi doosra bahhana dogi, Jo mujhe nahi sunna. Actually, tum middle class ladkiyon ki na fitrat hi yahi hoti hai. Ek aadmi se man bhar gaya, dusra mil gaya. (You will give another lame excuse of why you left me--us. Im not interested in listening to you. You middle class girls are like that. When you get what you wanted from one man, you move to the other)"

*SLAP*

Shivaay couldn't believe it. She had the audacity to slap him. Again. What did she think of herself? She was going to have it bad. Very bad.
"Abb main aapko kuchh bhi samjhaana zaroori nahi samajhti. Aap waise ke waise hain, aapki soch mein koi badlav nahi aaya hai, Shivaay! Maine socha tha aapke liye Dadi ne puja rakhi hai, arrangements karke ghar nikal jaaungi. Aapse Milne ki naubat hi nahi aayegi. Par jab samay hi bura chal raha ho, toh insaan kya kare? Ho gayi aapse mulakaat. 10 saal beet gaye ,Mr. Oberoi, 10 saal. Aap bilkul bhi nahi badle. Auraton ke liye, hum jaise middle class logon ke liye aapki abhi bhi wahi soch hain! Kutte ki poonchh seedhi ho sakti hai, par aapki soch mein badlav laana, namumkin. Aur rahi baat aapki mere baare mein Jo raay hai uski, toh agar mujhe.. Mujhe kisi aur ke saath rehne ka shauk hota, toh main 10 saalon baad bhi aapke naam ka sindoor aur mangalsutra nahi pehne dikhti. Aapke liye bhale hi rishte ek khel ho, mere liye nahi hai. Aur shaadi jaisa rishta, toh bilkul nahi.( Now, I don't feel the need for any explanation to be made. You are still the same Shivaay. I thought, I'd make the arrangements for the puja and go home, avoiding any chance of encounter with you. But it was my bad10 years have passed, Mr. Oberoi and you still haven't changed. Your opinion for middle class girls.. Or middle class people in general, is still the same. Its impossible to change your opinions. And about your opinion on me, if I really wanted... Another.. Man.. I would not have Mangalsutra tied around my neck and would not have put up this Sindoor. Relationships may be a joke to you, Mr. Oberoi! Not for me. And a relationship like marriage? Never.)" Annika says.
"Waah Annika, waah!! Manna padega! Kisi Hindi daily soap se dialogues chura kar laayi ho? Lag toh waisa hi raha hai! Jis din tum iss ghar ko chhod ke gayi thi, mujhe bohot bura laga. Itne saalon baad bhi, tumhe yaad karke mujhe utna hi bura lagta tha. Par aaj tumhe yaha dekh kar, mujhe tumse nafrat-si ho rahi hai. (Wow, Annika! Looks like you stole some dialogues of a Hindi Daily Soap? You know what? The day you left the house, I was beyond upset. Even after so many years, thinking about you causes just as much pain. But today, seeing you stand here, I feel only hatred towards you.)" Shivaay says.
That's it. He had said the word. He had said something she never wanted him to say. Not him. She can survive anything, but she can't survive his hatred towards her. She knew what she had to do. She wouldn't force Shivaay into anything. He hated her. She was shocked as he muttered the words, but silently accepted the fact. It is better for him to hate her than for him to struggle trying to let go of her thoughts. She knew something like this would happen if she met him. And yet, she came to Oberoi Mansion. Knowing she'll fall weak.
She knew what she had to do next. She had decided. She would leave him and never look back. It was good for him. And for her. She turned around and started to leave, she was stopped by Om and Rudra near the door.
"Bhabi, kahan jaa rahi ho? Abhi toh hame bohot saari baatein karni hain. (Bhabi, where are you going? We still have lots to chat!)" Rudra says, confused.
"Annika, kuchh hua kya? Tum jaa kyu rahi ho? Aur yeh.. Shivaay.. Jhagda hua kya? (Annika, what happened? And Shivaay.. Did you guys quarrel?)" Omkara enquires.
"Hum dono jab bhi milte hai, ladai toh hoti hi hai.. Aam baat hai Om. (Has it ever happened that we meet and quarrels don't take place? Its usual, Om)" Annika says with a fake smile. She then excuses herself and makes her way to the outside, when she was stopped.
"Bhabi, ek minute." Rudra says.
"Annika. Tum jaana chahti ho, yeh tumhari marzi hai. Par humare sawaalon ka jawab deti jaao. Kyu? Kyu tumne yeh ghar chhoda, Annika? Kya tum Shivaay ke saath khush nahi thi? Hamare saath khush nahi thi? Aakhir problem kya thi Annika? (Annika, you want to leave, its your wish. But at least answer us! Why? Why did you leave? Were you not happy with Shivaay? With us? What was the problem, Annika?)" Omkara asks in one go. Shivaay was listening to their talks attentively. He too wanted the answers. Why did she leave him? What had happened? He knew she was going to leave him again. Forever. He's going to lose her. Yet, he chose to have the answers to his unanswered questions instead of going and stopping her, asking her to stay. He was extremely hurt, and this was only how he knew to express his pain. Somewhere, he wanted Annika to stay. He wanted her to realise, that its not him, but his anger speaking. He wanted her to know how important she was to him, and how he could do anything to have her back. He wanted her to know. Just that he was not brave enough to tell him all of those things.
"Problem hi main thi, Om. Aisi baat bilkul nahi thi, ki main aap logon ke saath khush nahi thi, aap logon ne toh mujhe ek family di. Mera aap logon ke siva hai hi kaun? (I was the problem, the whole time, On. I was really happy with you guys, no doubt. You guys gave me a family. I don't have anyone else except you people)" She says, now on the verge of breaking down.
"Main hamesha se kehti aai hu na, ki aap log bohot achhe hai. Aap sab. Phir main aap logon ke saath kuchh bhi bura kaise hone deti? (I always say, that you people are very good. Then how could I have let anything bad happen with this family?)"
"Hamare saath kya bura hua? (What happened to us?)" Rudra asks.
"Aapke saath nahi, unke saath. (I'm talking about him)" She says and looks at Shivaay. He's standing there, motionless. Knowing not how to react. He was in trouble? How? How can Annika, his Annika, hurt him? Never. She was the one who motivated  him, inspired him.
"Shivaay mere sab kuchh hai. Unke saath bura hote main nahi dekh sakti. Pata hai, jab main yaha par thi, Shivaay ne mujhe saari khushiyan di. Hamesha mera saath diya, par Pinky Aunty ko main kabhi pasand nahi thi. Woh hamesha mujh par bhadak jaati thi, Jo Shivaay ko pasand nahi tha! Om, Rudra uss samay, unki aankhon mein Jo confusion, Jo tadap Maine dekhi thi na? Woh mujhe aaj bhi yaad hai. Shivaay toot jaate the, aur mujhse yeh bardasht nahi hota tha. Kaise, Om? Kaise woh apni life ke 2 important logon mein se ek ko chun lete? Kaise main unke aur unki Maa ke beech daraar paida kar sakti thi? Kaise? Tumhe kya lagata hai? Main.. Main unhe, aap sab ko khushi se chhod kar gayi thi? Mujhe aap sab se zyaada takleef hui thi! Par, mujhe batao na, mera faisla sahi tha na? Mere jaane ke baad, Pinky Aunty aur Shivaay ke beech koi jhagde nahi hue na? Bolo na, mera faisla sahi that na? (Shivaay was always my everything. I couldn't see anything bad happen with him! You know I wasn't Pinky Aunty's favourite. And Shivaay did not like it when she yelled at me. I could clearly see the confusion and helplessness in Shivaay's eyes. It pained me. It pained me beyond words! How could he choose one of the 2 most important women in his life? So, I had to take this decision. I did it for his good. So that relationship between him and his mother arent spoilt. I made the right decision, no Om? Just telll me I made the right decision!) "
Annika starts weeping like a kid, while Shivaay looks on. How could he be so dumb, just how? How could SHE be so dumb? She thought she'd leave and everything will be perfectly fine. His life will be perfectly fine. Without her! What was she even thinking? Why does she always have to sacrifice her happiness for others? Why can't she ever think about herself? And Shivaay? What not did he say to her! She was right in leaving him. He was an awful husband. Shivaay turned his back toward them. Closed his eyes and folded his fingers tightly forming a fist. Tears trickles down his cheeks. He didn't bother wiping them. He knew what he had done. He knew what damage he had caused and he knew it was now, beyond repair. She hates him now. She should. That's what he deserves. She sacrificed her happiness for their family. Again. And what did he do? He hurt her. Again. All these years, he didn't even bother looking for her. He is such an idiot. SHE is such an idiot.
"Tera faisla galat tha Annika. (You made the wrong decision, Annika)" A voice said.
