"June I just want to say that you drive like scary fast. I was struggling to keep up." John B was the first to speak when he joined her at the trunk of her car, June shaking her head as she reached inside to grab their things. A shovel, flashlights...that was pretty much it.

"Maybe don't be such a grandma driver?" She suggested, pushing the flashlight into his chest and patting his cheek with her hand. His jaw clenched as he gripped the handle, June walking past him and reentering the group circle. "Alright guys this should be easy. We find the 1903 pillar, we dig behind it...we find the key."

"So is it just like a little key in all of the dirt or is it in a box or..." Kie asked, June looking at her with an unknown expression.  At was a fair question, Sarah and June sharing a look as they realized they had gotten the minimal amount of information that they possibly could about this thing.

"I don't know. I'd assume a box, but maybe someone should check the dirt we dig up just in case, yeah?" The March girl suggested, feeling strange for suggesting something so silly. Pope raised his hand, attention turning to him as he quickly started speaking.

"I volunteer JJ as dirt checker." The Heyward boy said, JJ looking at him with a scrunched up face. They shared a look and quickly launched into a game of rock paper scissors, Pope beating his scissors with rock and the two of them looking back at the group as JJ accepted his fate silently.

"I volunteer as lookout. Me, Sarah, and Cleo will hang back and keep an eye out." Kie said, the other two girls nodding. As much as they were on board with this plan...none of them really wanted to dig and stand around sifting through dirt, lookout was the most achievable option. The boys all nodded, excited over the fact they got to do the work. June narrows her eyes and looked between the three of them, her grip tightening on the shovel as it hung beside her.

"Actually warn us if someone's coming, yeah?" She said, remembering earlier that day when Cleo and Kie had abandoned them at Tom Mallory's house. Although it was a simple miscommunication, June would prefer it if they didn't ditch them this time.

"Alright." Cleo said, leaning against the side of Sarah's car. June sucked in a breath as she turned towards the boys, lifting the shovel slightly along with her other arm and giving them a look that said she was ready. They all shifted now, preparing to go.

"Let's go...here I'll carry the shovel." Pope said, reaching for the shovel that was hanging at her side. June let him take it, happy she didn't have to carry it as he held it in his hands. John B and JJ led the way, June smiling over at Pope.

"Such a gentleman." JJs head turned for a moment and then he looked back forwards, John B shooting a peculiar glance back at Pope. Pope gave him the slightest of nods, the four of them walking off towards the memorial site.  They were silent for only a few moments before Pope leaned over towards June, a curious look on his face as he spoke.

"So how was the ride over?" They had fallen back a little bit compared to JJ and John B, the two of them conversing about how the pattern of trees in the park reminded them of something from a video game. June looked over at Pope with a puzzling expression, wondering why he was asking.

"It was fine."

"What did you guys talk about?" Although she hadn't made the connection yet, this questioning from Pope was pertaining to the 'our girlfriend' aspect of the friendship. Pope and John B had decided not to give up  on the couple because they loved and cared for them both, and when they were together...everything was peaceful. They had discussed the repercussions of the locking them in the room together again on their own time, deciding it wasn't the best idea and so they came up with new plans, plans involving putting them together in cars alone and a few other  interesting ideas that they had yet to play out. They would get them together no matter what, because watching them suffer was awful. They had also decided they would do it at any cost, meaning they had some pretty risky ideas coming into play. The car ride was their test run, Pope was getting the intel on how it went.

"Oh you know...the usual. The plan, the ride, how nosy you are, how irritating it is that you pry into our personal business." This wasn't the best thing to say in hindsight, Popes lips growing into a dubious smile as he caught exactly what she had said. His eyebrows raised as he questioned her about it.

"Our? So you and him are an us again?" Junes face fell immediately, her eyes reflecting her immediate panic at his take on her words.

"No thats not— I didn't say—" She said trying to clear it up frantically, her hands backing up her words as she waved away the accusation.

"Yes you did.  Wow. Love isn't dead! Love is alive. I'm happy for you guys. When's the wedding?" She let out a groan as he exclaimed, punching him in the shoulder and bringing her finger up to her lips to tell him to stop being so loud. He had a cheeky and unapologetic look on his face as she shook her head, running a hand over her face as she made sure the other boys didn't turn around.

"Shut up."

"I am happy you guys aren't fighting anymore." He said genuinely, June shrugging and looking at John and back as they walked. Pope was eyeing her expression as she spoke, trying to see what he could get out of it.

"Yeah well...figured it was time to put the past behind us." There was some truth to this, the main reason behind her amends being the fact that she was quite literally forced to make them. Pope seemed shocked by her answer, his lip scrunching up a little bit as he commended her for her actions.

"Well isn't that noble of you. You decided to start being the bigger person? I guess someone needed to." She could tell he was half serious half sarcastic, the girl rolling her eyes and looking over at him.

"Alright relax. It's not that big of a deal." Pope shook his head at her words, excitement filling him as he realized their test run had succeeded.

"To you I guess....I'm one step closer to getting our girlfriend back." He slipped saying it, his face immediately going slack  as he hoped it would just go over her head. However this was June, and most things did not go over her head, her own face scrunching in confusion as she looked over at him. Her hand pressed into his arm and Pope almost broke a sweat, her lips parting to question what he had said.

"Our girlfriend?" They reached the memorial at the perfect time, Pope pulling away from her and gesturing towards the pillars.

"Ahh man look there's the pillars." Pope said cutting off her questioning and jogging ahead towards the circle of pillars. June was quick to follow, her voice confused as she asked again.

"What did—" Pope cut her off, his hands on his hips as he stood beside the two other boys who were looking at one pillar specifically.

"No time...sorry." He shrugged, whispering it as he gestured with his head towards the pillar. June looked begrudgingly towards the pillar, her cloudy mind clearing when she saw what was at the top. There was multiple years written in this pillar but the top one said 1903, a breath of relief leaving her lips as she leaned a little to the right, looking behind it.

"Alright well this is concrete but back...." June passed all of them, making her way past the pillar and the  concrete and then into the brush behind the pillar. "...here—this is dirt."

"Wow you should be a detective." John B said, his eyes on the ground where she was pointing. June turned her head and gave him a disgusted look, her arms crossing over her chest.

"Shut up bitchface." She said, the boys chuckling as John B took the words like a hit. He shook his head, not impressed by the name calling.

"Bitchface? Really?" June nodded, reaching for the shovel in Popes hand and pulling it from his grip. She gave John B a  fake smile and pushed the shovel into his stomach, the boy groaning as she let go of the handle.

"Start digging." She said, John B rolling his eyes as he dropped the shovel into the dirt. They had a standoff for a moment, John B glaring at June and the girl narrowing her eyes as she held it, her arms crossing over her chest again. Finally he cracked, letting out a defeated sigh and stomping on the shovel to get it into the first.

"Okay mom." He said in a irritated voice, June shaking her head and dropping her arms.

"Maybe I like that." Pope and JJ both shared a look, Pope quick to speak on the comment.

"Gross." The Heyward boy said, refraining from making a comment in JJs direction about whether or not it was true. June took a step towards the two other boys, pointing towards JJ with a controlling air about her.

"JJ you're dirt checker. John B, I'm serious...start digging." June turned to the boy again, exasperated by the fact he was just looking at her. He lifted a hand and let out a sigh, pushing into the dirt as JJ moved towards the pile that he was beginning to make with the dirt.

"Okay damn. I'm digging."

"Someone's bossy today." JJ muttered under his breath, not low enough to not be heard. Junes head snapped to him and he refused to look at her, his hands in the dirt as he sifted through it. John B threw a little bit of dirty a little too far, the clump hitting JJ in the chest and leading him to giving John B a dirty look.

"Well this shouldn't be an all night thing. It should be in and out." June said, the boys trying to refrain from making the comment but the words still slipping out of JJs mouth.

"That's what she said." June rolled her eyes, shaking her head as John B did the worst digging she had ever seen. Her lip curled up and she looked to JJ, giving him a disappointed look and reprimanding him for the comment as the other two boys laughed.

"You disgust me." She said, pushing some hair from her face as the breeze picked up for a moment. John B had a smirk on his lips as he continued to annoy her, knowing that he had to keep it going. He leaned against the shovel, his face scrunching up as if he was thinking as he looked at her.

"I don't know she's kinda hot bossy." John B said, making June want to throw up. She let out a huff of air as he leaned instead of digging, her face falling as Pope spoke.

"I agree." He said, the two boys sharing and look and then turning their head to JJ. He wasn't even looking at him, the boy sitting through dirt with his hands as he answered.

"You have no idea." The two boys scrunched their noses up and have accusatory glances towards June, JJs comment incriminating her in some way. Her mouth dropped open and her cheeks burned bright red, the girl embarrassed by the fact he had said that.  She launched forwards, pulling the shovel from John B and pushing him back.

"Hey! Give me—damn it give me this. You're so slow!" She scolded the Routledge boy, beginning to dig, and dig better than he had been the entire time.

"Okay well—" John B started but June was quick to cut him off, not wanting to hear him talk.

"Just shut the fuck up." She said in a solid tone, John B and Pope sharing a look at her frustration. John B thought his comment about her being hot and bossy still stood, especially now. Her irritation was like music to their ears, John B and Pope loved annoying her, and JJ was so invested in the dirt right now that when he looked up, he was mildly surprised by the fact June was the one digging now.

"June be careful." JJ said, the words leaving his mouth before he could even stop them. His face seemed to instantly fall as he looked between the three of them, a sneaky smile crossing the two boys lips as June shoveled another handful of dirt into JJs pile.

"Oh I'm being so...so very careful JJ." She said in a sarcastically drawn out voice, her lips a tight smile as she grit her teeth. She was digging way faster than John B had but now it was taking more effort, the girl hoping they'd find the key soon so she could be done with this. JJ was not very amused by the commentary, seeing the way she was sweating and losing his inhibitions about worrying for her.

"Okay haha but I'm serious." He said, June not even looking up at him. She had thrown multiple shovels of dirt on the pile he hadn't been checking due to his unneeded worry for her, the girl making eye contact with him.

"So am I—check the fucking dirt." She said in a serious tone, the two of them holding a look for a moment. She as glaring at him and he had those big giant eyes that would normally make her melt if the situation wasn't so stupid. The ones with genuine worry in them that made her heart jump and her stomach flip but she didn't feel any of that, just the slightest pinch in her heart. John B looked at her with accusatory eyes as he took a step towards her, not necessarily thinking she was digging any better than he had been.

"I really don't feel like you're—" Junes head snapped back at the boy and she pushed his shoulder, her face holding an expression of pure disgust as the boys eyes widened at her.

"Jesus Christ can you back up off of me?! Your hot ass breath is hitting the back of my neck!" She said in a tense tone, the other two boys having to stifle a laugh as John B looked at her with wide eyes. June let out a burdened sigh and turned back around, using the shovel to give way to the dirt. "If you two are gonna do absolutely nothing in your own, maybe you can help him look through the dirt."

"Well what do you think? You think the guy buried the key 2 inches into the ground." June chuckled angrily at this, turning back towards John B whose only contribution to this entire thing was to agitate her so far.

"That's over a fucking foot I've dug into the ground you asshole." He crossed his arms over his chest and looked past her at the hole, his face holding a look that made her feel small and stupid, June really not liking it.

"If that's a foot then I'm 4 foot 9." Junes face scrunched up as she looked at him and she let out a groan, turning around and continuing to dig.

"That doesn't even make any sense. God, it's like arguing with a goddamn 4th grader!" Pope chuckled at her comment, earning a look from John B that stifled his laugh. The two other boys begrudgingly moved towards where JJ was, searching through the dirt she was piling as she poured it.

"Do we know if it's in this exact spot or if—" Just as Pope began to question their position the shovel made a thudding noise, all of them looking towards the hole where June had hit something. She instantly dropped the shovel, joining them on her knees and reaching into the hole with glazed over eyes. She used her hands to dig the dirt away from where it was, her stomach in knots as she managed to pull out a lockbox. Attached to the handle by a thin piece of string was a key, the key dangling below the box as she pulled it out by the handle.  "Holy shit."

"Is that it?"JJ asked, June grabbing the key from the handle and ripping it off of where it was tied. She felt a line of sweat go down her neck as she let out a shaky breath, the girl prepared to open the box.

"I think it's—" Just as she started to talk there was a strange illumination of light, a shout sounding from behind them.

"Hey! Hey what's are you kids doing over there?!" They all shared a look and then immediately took off, June holding the  key and lockbox in her hand as they started towards the security guard. They ran right past them, the older man turning and following after them immediately. He shouted after the four of them but their cars weren't too far at all, June  heading the group and yelling once the cars came into view.

"Get in the car! Get in the car!" She shouted to the girls who were standing in the parking lot, her heart racing as they looked up at the four of them in panic. The guards flashlight tipped them off to what was happening and they hurried into the car, June reaching hers and ripping the door open, starting it immediately. She was going to pull out but then remembered she had to wait for JJ , the boy in question sliding into view. He reached for the door handle as the guard closed in on them, Sarah's car squealing out of  the parking lot just as  June out the car in reverse. JJ had hardly gotten his door closed when she skirted off and away down the street, leaving tire marks on the pavement.

There was tense silence for a moment as they both watched the rearview mirrors, a breath of relief  leaving them when they realized the guard wasn't chasing them. June felt a pain in her hand,  lifting it off of the wheel and seeing that she was still gripping the key to the lockbox, the girl holding it out to JJ who was still catching his breath. He seemed to understand what she wanted immediately, the boy taking the key from her hand and grabbing the lockbox from where she had thrown it in the back seat.

He pushed the key in and turned it, neither of them knowing what to expect. He let out a short cautionary breath before pushing the lid open, June trying to pay attention to the road but also to the box.

"Is it in there?"

"There's actually...a few things in here." JJ said, reaching into the box and pulling out the first thing. Junes eyes widened when he pulled a gun from the box, her face going pale when he lifted it. He put it in his lap and continued through,  refraining from telling her what kind of gun it was. He pulled out next a small wad of cash, June watching as he placed it between his legs. The next thing he pulled out was a few papers June sure they would look at them later and then finally  he pulled out an old looking key. Nothing like the key from the Cross but still an older looking key. She assumed this was the key that he was looking for. "Huh that's weird."

June was quick to look at him, her eyebrows furrowing as he seemed to be seeing something that she wasn't seeing.

"What's weird?"

"There's coordinates carved into the top of the key."
