seven.
June March sat at the edge of the motel room bed, her hairbrush gliding through her wet hair as she prepared to relax before bed. She had just gotten out of the shower and now Rafe was in there, Junes mind torturing her with terrible thoughts about Rafe, thoughts that painted him as the object of her desires in this very moment. She was taking this alone time to control herself, to get her emotions in check, and to be able to leave this escape plan without doing something she may or may not regret in the future.
She heard the shower turn off and then the sound of the shower curtain, the girl messing with the remote in hopes of finding a good channel. The bathroom door opened and she couldn't help but turn her head, her mouth immediately dropping open and her breath stopping as she saw him.
He was only in his towel, his hair dripping wet and beads of water sliding down his skin. He gave her a half smile and then reached for his change of clothes he had left on the bed, his hand being the only thing keeping his towel together. He lifted the clothes in an attempt to show her why he had come out naked, and then he disappeared back into the bathroom, June feeling like she was still unable to breathe. The image of him walking out replayed again and again in her mind and she closed her eye to take this opportunity to banish these daunting thoughts, these deep desires.
He walked back out at the perfect time, the malicious warmth in Junes stomach disappearing as she got rid of the feeling. She scooted back on the bed as he stood in front of the sink, brushing his teeth. She tried to avoid looking at him completely now, knowing one thing might send her over the edge. The tension in the room was tangible, or at least she thought it was, he didn't seem to notice. He was wearing a pair of sweat pants and some t-shirt, June breathing through her mouth for a minute as she tried her hardest to not look. She couldn't help herself when she took one glance, her stomach flipping when she saw how tight the shirt was. She knew he had been working out a lot, Dr. Michael said it might be a healthy coping mechanism. But now that she was looking at him, she could really see that he had been working out a lot more, she could definitely tell.
He turned around and she was quick to avert her eyes, pulling the blankets over herself and looking at the tv again. She cleared her throat as she pressed the channel button, her mind everywhere but on the tv as she saw him move in her peripheral. He scooted into his own bed, June feeling an ache in her chest at that. She could soon feel his eyes on her, the girl not ready to look at him, knowing how badly she wanted to.
"Come here." Rafe said, making her head immediately turn as she looked at him in confusion. He had scooted over so there was room beside him, June looking at him like he was crazy.
"What?"
"Yeah, come here. I want to talk to you." He said, and it was less of a suggestive tone and more of a just telling her what to do tone.
"We can talk from here." She said, Rafe leaning back against the headboard of the bed and letting out a deep sigh. He turned his head to the side and then spoke again, his hands clapping on his lap.
"I can't see you through the lamp. And I want to see you. So come here." June looked to the side and found that she couldn't see him through the lamp either, her stomach dropping as her body began to move. She took the two steps between the bed and sat down on top of the blankets like he was, the remote still in her hand. She sat against the headboard and then continued to flick through the channels, Rafe looking at her as she avoided looking at him.
A small smirk covered his lips as he stared at her adoringly, the boy noting the tint of red on her cheeks and neck. He also noticed she was beyond fidgety, his eyes raking over her body to see what else he could observe. She was breathing shakily, this only making his smile grow, and once again he returned to the blush on her cheeks. He knew what was happening, they had done this dance before. Internally he couldn't believe this was finally happening, she could hardly resist him and he knew it, proven by her anxiousness to be near him. This was how she had acted the first time they had reconciled after they had broken up, she had been the one to show up but he had to make the first move because of how nervous and tense she was. He wondered if the same rules would apply here.
"You seriously have a staring problem." June said, her head turning to look at him. She made eye contact and he was pushed back into unsurity, due to the fact that old June couldn't make eye contact like that. Then he remembered this wasn't old June at all, this was new June, and she was a bit more confident in herself.
"No, I just...think you're really pretty." She looked away now, a small nervous chuckle leaving her lips as she shook her head. It was nice to be complimented, and especially by someone who she knew really meant them.
"God why do you do that?" She asked, Rafe smiling at her clear frustration. He knew that now was the time to put in the work, a love struck smile sneakily crossing his lips.
"Do what? Love everything about you?" She scoffed, looking over at him and letting her smile drop as she saw the look in his eyes. It was so ridiculously genuine that it almost made her cry, and she had never seen a sparkle in someone's eye until this exact moment. She figured she had never seen someone this in love before, which made her question his sanity, given the fact that it was so intense.
"Why do you love me?" She was really curious, this question being one that she had been wondering for a long time. He could he love her so much even still, after everything. How could his love be so intense that he would kill her so he didn't have to see her with someone else. It was a terrifying thing but she was genuinely curious about why he felt so strongly for her, when she didn't even feel that strongly about herself. She wondered why he loved her, and then for a moment she wondered why JJ couldn't. This thought made her want to be sick again, and she pushed it far out of her mind.
He reached out and pushed the remote down, making sure she was paying attention as he thought about the answer. He wanted so give her some kind of extreme answer, some beautifully worded sonnet of sorts but really he could come up with no real words to describe it. It was just her. Everything came back to her.
She could tell he was fighting with an answer and the longer she stared at him the more she didn't really care for the answer anymore, June watching him with glazed over eyes that held the spark that she had just seen in his. Every thought in her head told her to squad the tension, to just get it over with, and she wasn't entirely sure where the endless urge came from.
"Well I-" She didn't even let him finish, leaning forwards and realizing she didn't want the answer at all. If she got that answer she would dwell on it forever, she would never forget it, it would consume her. So she stopped his words with her lips, Rafe caught off guard by the kiss. Her hand went to the side of his face and he took a moment of close his eyes, unsure of whether or not he was okay with this. Of course he was okay with it, but he knew that if it continued for long he would fall prey to whatever her plan was with this, and he was never too sure how things would go.
Rafe pulled back, his forehead against hers as he struggled to breathe. He felt like he was in a daze, and although this was everything he wanted, he wasn't even sure what to do next.
"June." He said, the girl swallowing a lump in her throat. Just hearing him say her name made her release all of her inhibitions, the girl shaking her head and finally giving in. She pushed her mouth back to his, her arms going around his neck. Rafe could feel the shift in himself, the giddiness from knowing what was happening, the relief of finally earning his chance with her.
June deepened the kiss, climbing over the bed and onto his lap, Rafe gripping her hips with his hands. There was a fire burning between them, large and unable to be put out, years worthy of history and tension coming to a head. It felt so wrong any other time but right now it felt so ridiculously right, June running her hand through his hair as he pulled her closer by her back. Her wrapped his arms around her waist and they were as close as he was sure they possibly could be, the girl pulling back for air and looking down at him. His hair was messy and he looked so much like her Rafe, he was her Rafe. He had a dreamy smile on his lips and she leaned down, pressing a kiss to the corner of them before letting out a short laugh.
"You're loving this aren't you?" He had such big puppy dog eyes as he looked up at her, and she knew there was no way she could resist him or stop now.
"You're not?" They both shared a laugh and then she grabbed him by the face, peppering kisses across every inch of it and making him feel like his heart was going to explode. The kisses trailed down to his jaw and then to his neck, the girl sliding back a little bit so she could get range. He loosened his arms and reached for her shirt, June shaking her head as she pulled back to pull it off. She went to kiss him again but he pressed his hand against her stomach, keeping her in the spot on his lap. She covered her face as she blushed and realized what he was doing, his eyes holding a wondrous gaze as he took in the sight of her.
"Rafe come on." She said, trying to lean towards him again but his hand pressing her back. "What are you doing?"
"I'm savoring this moment. I'm savoring it because this is the best thing to happen to me in a long time." He had a lighter attitude about him than he had had in a long time, and they shared a smile, his awe making him so boyish and cute.
"Okay are you done savoring it? I want to kiss you." Rafe was in awe of just that sentence alone, his boy filling with a warm and fuzzy feeling at the fact that he had made it. He was finally getting the thing he wanted most in the world. June March.
"Okay I'm done." She smiled as she leaned forwards, kissing him again and this time without fail. Her stomach was in knots as she pushed her body against his, her hands dropping to his stomach. She pushed her hands under his shirt and explored the skin underneath, Rafe pulling the shirt off so she could see what she was touching. Her legs were wrapped around his waist and he took this as his opportunity, the boy flipping them over so she was on her back. She let out a giggle as they turned, her back connecting with the bed as he smiled down at her.
His lips pressed against her neck and her collarbone, the boy getting lost in how soft her skin was, how right if felt to be in her arms. She let out a breathy moan and it was music to his ears, the boy unable to hold anything but a smile on his lips. He kept on trailing down her body, his lips pressing to parts of her body that he hadn't touched in a long time. He could feel her breath catching when he kissed certain parts of her body, and when he got to the bottom of her stomach he hooked his fingers around the waistband of her shorts, his darkened eyes lifting to her face. Her eyes were closed and her head thrown back, and he knew that she was just waiting for him to continue on. He knew her body like the back of his hand and yet he was still excited to see her, still ready for more. Rafe pulled the waistband of her shorts down, the girl left in her bra and underwear now. He quickly grabbed her leg, lifting it and pressing kisses to the insides of her thighs, Junes breath picking up again as he teased her.
"Rafe." She called in a breathy tone, the boy looking at her with wide eyes, blinking through the disbelief over the fact this was actually happening. "Come on..."
He knew what she was talking about, the boy letting out a small chuckle at how needy she was for him and then pulling her underwear down. He marveled at the sight as she pulled at his pants, his head shaking as he let her undress him. This was something he never thought he'd see again, June taking his pants off, and he thought it was almost comical that he had doubted himself so extremely.
She managed to get his pants and underwear down, the both of them pausing for a moment before he gave her an unsure look, the girl quickly nodding so he knew she was sure. He pulled her closer by her hips and then kissed her, a moan leaving both of their lips as he closed any and all space between them.
"Okay...okay keep going." She whispered into his ear, Rafe complying to whatever she said. They let out their moans together and he buried his head into her neck, changing his pace as she held him under his arms.
"You're doing good. Hold on." He said into her shoulder, kissing it as he reassured her. This only made her want him more, his breathy voice driving her crazy as she pulled their chest together. "There you go. Yeah okay."
His reassurance was deliciously positive, June feeling a stir deep in her stomach as he kept on, he pulled back when her nails had dug into his back, the boy looking down at her and really honestly savoring the moment. A moment later he changed his pace again, June seeming to like this one a lot better, her moans becoming louder and more frequent as he continued to reassure her. The noises coming from her mouth were driving him crazy, neither of them expecting what would leave her mouth next.
"I love you." She cried into his shoulder, the words shocking them both. Rafe stopped, too stunned to continue as he looked down at her with wide and questioning eyes, wondering if he had heard her correctly.
"What?"
"What?" She said back, hoping she could pretend she hadn't said that. However he knew exactly what he had heard, his heart pounding even harder in his chest as he looked down at her. He pressed a kiss to her mouth as he was filled with giddiness and joy, his stomach in knots as he looked down at her.
"Say it again."
"What?"
"I wanna hear it again." June looked up at him with wide eyes, realizing now was not the time to argue, not when he was literally inside of her. She wasn't sure if she had meant it, she didn't know why she would say it if she didn't, but now she felt like she was being put on the spot, her cheeks burning a deep red as she considered her choices.
"I love you?" She said in a tight voice, her eyes widening again as he watched the way his entire face lit up. He smiled and leaned down and kissed her again, June seeing the excitement in his expression and knowing she couldn't take it back. Did she even want to take it back? She must have meant it if she had said it so surely. Maybe she did mean it. Maybe now wasn't the time to be contemplating what she had said.
"Okay."
