Med School
A/N Oh My God, what, I'm not dead? No way considering I've been absent on here for like 10 years!!! but no actually I am really sorry for that, I just had all my finals and if my time wasn't spent studying, it was probably crying in despair and after that I went camping and then up to my aunt and uncle's cabin with all their kids and I haven't had to wifi to update either; but I'm home now and I am really truly sorry about the wait. Also I'm aware that this isn't the Trouble Part 3 that a lot of you guys wanted but I do promise I'm working on that right now I just haven't had a lot of inspiration for that and I'm struggling to connect things but I have been surfing the dark abyss that is Tumblr lately and I've come across a lot of cute AUs and I really liked this one and it came really naturally to write so I figured I would update this is the meantime so there's not an even bigger break but I do promise I am working on Part 3 and it should be up sometime this month (hopefully). Anyways, enough of me talking, let's get on with the AU (there aren't gods in this so both are mortal, just a side note.)

Percy sighed and pressed the heels of his hands into his eyes, the coloured spots swirling around in front of him. He looked up and squinted in the dim light of the library, it was currently 1:30 am and he was still trying to memorize the list of different chromosome abnormalities that one could have. He looked back to his book and watched as the letters swam before his eyes; he would never remember all this stuff for his upcoming exam, but he needed to do well in med school. His mom had always told him how smart he was and how well he would do in school and all Percy wanted was to prove her right, but he couldn't, just couldn't. Not with this amount of information to remember and the late nights one after the other. Percy sighed again and closed his book, he would go back to his dorm, sleep and hopefully study some more tomorrow.
"Um, hey sorry but I think you dropped this." A voice stopped Percy in his tracks, he turned around and practically felt his mind empty of all conscious thought. Sitting at the table beside him was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. She looked to be around his age 22, maybe 23, she had long blond hair that curled beautifully over her shoulders and bright grey eyes that were so interesting yet slightly intimidating at the same time, and she was holding his pencil.
"Um... uh yeah um... yeah thanks." Percy stumbled over the words, he felt as though his tongue had swollen up and he couldn't pronounce anything correctly anymore. How could he not have seen a girl as pretty as her? She must have entered after he sat down, back when he was too focused on gene mapping to notice.
The girl smiled still holding out his pencil, Percy reached forwards and grabbed it still unable to process any logical thought. "Hey I hope this doesn't sound creepy," she said. "But um I noticed you were studying Genetics over there, I'm majoring in Neuroscience but I think we both take the same intro anatomy class, Dr. Fitzgerald, right?"
Percy was sure he would've noticed someone like her in one of his classes, but he did have an intro anatomy class with Dr. Fitzgerald so he said. "Um yeah, yeah I think we do."
"My name is Annabeth." Annabeth stuck out her hand again but this time, she wasn't holding anything but an opportunity.
"Percy," Percy replied and grabbed her hand. "You also studying for a test?" he asked.
Annabeth sighed and looked back at her notes with despair. "Sadly, yes, and this counts for 20% of our grade and I'm afraid I don't know anything."
Percy laughed. "I feel you, I've been studying for so long I attempted to write something down with my coffee stirrer."
Annabeth laughed softly, she was even prettier when she laughed Percy decided. Her eyes lit up and she smiled softly while her laugh brightened the air around them. "Sit down Percy." she invited.
Percy wasn't entirely too sure what he was doing, he needed to go home and sleep but he found himself easing down onto the seat opposite her. "So, Annabeth, did you always want to go into medicine?" he asked, trying to find a way to fill the silence before it became awkward.
"Not exactly, I wasn't really sure what I wanted to be until I was about in grade 10; before that it was a whole jumble of different ideas, you?"
"I think I knew pretty early on, it always interested me, with my mom being a nurse I spent a lot of time around doctors." Percy shrugged, he found it incredibly easy to talk to Annabeth she was so warm and inviting and something about her made him want to keep going.
"Aww, that's cute," Annabeth smiled at him, her pencil and notes completely abandoned. "My mom was a lawyer she didn't spend a lot of time at home, constantly at court or in her office working on some sort of paper; my dad was more the family man."
"I never knew my dad," Percy admitted. "He left when I was young, I don't really know much about him."
"Wow, there's really something about late nights that makes people so personal isn't there?" Annabeth chuckled. "I am sorry about your dad, though."
Percy shrugged. "It's fine, but you're right I don't even know you and I've probably told you more than my therapist."
Annabeth gave him a sideways glance, her eyebrows pulled together slightly in confusion, Percy returned it with a teasing smile. "I'm kidding." He chuckled. "I don't have a therapist unless of course, you count my dog because I talk to Po quite a lot."
"You have a dog named Po?" Annabeth crossed her arms on the table and smiled at him. Percy struggled to keep her eye contact without his cheeks feeling slightly warm and tingly.
"Yeah, it's um short for Poseidon actually, you know the Greek-"
"God of the sea? Yeah, I know of him." Annabeth cut him off.
"Yeah, um I just got him and he has this weird birthmark type patch of fur that's kinda shaped like a trident so you know... Poseidon."
"That's actually really cool. And I also really want to meet him because I love dogs more than I love people" Annabeth joked.
"Yeah, no that'd be really cool." Percy stuttered, his hands nervously fiddling with his pencil; this was his chance to start hanging out with her and he wasn't going to miss it.
"Oh wow it's almost 2:00 AM" Annabeth glanced at her phone. "Listen, um, I really have to go to sleep but do you wanna like get coffee tomorrow or something?" Annabeth hurried through her words as she gathered her books into a pile.
"Uh yeah, yeah that sounds great." Percy could hardly believe she wanted to hang out with him.
"Great." She gave him a smile that made his legs feel wobbly as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "I have a 2-hour break after our anatomy class, do you wanna meet after and we can work on some stuff for class or something."
Percy nodded quickly. "Yeah, that works."
"Okay, see you tomorrow then." She gave him a smile one last time before walking off.
_______TIME SKIP (also A/N real quick not gonna lie you guys as I was writing about the dog I ended up searching up different dog breeds I want and almost crying over puppy pictures for about a 1/2 hour so yeah kinda sad but comment if you would totally do the same... anyways)________
Percy and Annabeth had been getting coffee and working on their assignments together for over two weeks and Percy, although finding talking around her much easier and could now form a full sentence without stumbling over his words, couldn't help falling in love with her.
"Percy? Hello, earth to Percy?" Percy's eyes came back into focus where Annabeth was waving her pencil in front of his face.
"Sorry, I was thinking."
"This is like the third time you've zoned out today, are you okay?" Annabeth put down the pencil and stared at him in concern.
Percy tried to wave it off by focusing his attention on the body map in front of him instead of her grey eyes that he couldn't help staring at when she wasn't paying him attention, or her cheeks which, now that it was mid-December, always had pink tinge to them with made her face seem even cuter and kissable, and speaking of kissable he wasn't even going to think about her lips or about the many times he imagined himself kissing them if he ever actually worked up the courage to ask her out. No, no he wasn't going to focus on any of that nonsense, just his diagram.
"I'm fine." Percy shrugged, still not meeting her eyes. Annabeth didn't respond but he still didn't dare raise his head.
Another 10 minutes passed before Annabeth spoke up. "Hey, um I know this is kinda out of the blue but I can spend the night at your apartment this Friday?"
This caused Percy to look up, however, this time, it was Annabeth who wouldn't meet his gaze . "Uh, I mean, sure that's fine. Can I ask why, though?"
"My roommate is throwing a party with all her old high school friends at our place and I like her and all that but our midterms are coming up and I won't be able to study with all that noise so... it's okay, though?" She finally raised her head and Percy nodded, trying to play it cool even though he was silently having a heart attack inside. Annabeth had been over to his apartment before. Sure it was kinda tiny, but every college kid had a tiny room and yeah there was a hole in that one wall but that had been there before Percy moved in and a well-placed poster is a lot cheaper than actually getting repaired; besides Annabeth had seen all this before so why was he getting so worked up. He tried to clear his head and listen to Annabeth explain something about proteins.
____OOPS ANOTHER TIME SKIP______
"Ughhh, my head is spinning." Annabeth groaned as she clutched the sides of her head squeezing her eyes shut. Percy laughed from the small kitchen off the side of the main sitting area in his apartment that they had both been using to study in.
"You've been looking at that stuff for 5 hours now, you should give it a break you nerd." He chuckled dodging the pillow she threw at him as he entered the room with two cups of hot chocolate.
"Thank you," She mumbled as he handed her the cup. "I honestly think my brain might explode."
"Look, it's only 11:00 right now, let's like watch a movie or something and then you can get back to torturing yourself." Percy leaned back on the couch, sitting beside her but still trying to keep some space.
"How are you not freaking out about the exams?" She turned to face him.
"I don't know," Percy shrugged. "I'm just not, I mean I've been studying and reviewing my notes and I'm just not that stressed."
"Well lucky you," Annabeth muttered turning back to her notes.
"Nope." Percy reached past her to grab her textbook and pull it away.
"Percy what are you doing?" Annabeth exclaimed. Percy set the textbook down on the floor beside the couch.
"We're going to watch a movie because you need a break and I personally don't want to be the one to clean your melted brain off of my floor so."
"Percy, I need to study." Annabeth tried reaching past him but he swatted her arm away.
"Annabeth, you are literally one of the smartest people in Fitz's class and I'm sure you are in all your others too, you don't need to keep studying right now okay. Just relax cause you're brilliant."
Annabeth gave him a disapproving look before sinking back into the couch, her arms crossed. "Fine," she huffed. "But we're not watching anything horror like okay."
"Deal." Percy chuckled.
___LITTLE TIME JUMP TO LIKE 40 MINUTES LATER_____
Percy woke with a start, the room was dark except for the blue light emitted from the T.V where the movie he and Annabeth had been watching was still playing. Annabeth, Annabeth, Percy felt a weight on his chest which after a quick glance turned out to be Annabeth completely unconscious, her blonde curls framing her face, her chest rising and falling ever so softly. Percy couldn't quite remember how the position had happened but he was fairly certain it had something to do with her being cold and him trying to be romantic and offering to share the blanket that now covered both their bodies. He glanced at the clock above the broken fireplace, it read 12:15 AM.
"Annabeth," Percy whispered, lightly tapping her arm. "Hey, Annabeth." She stirred slightly moving her head, her eyebrows furrowing slightly as though in a bad dream.
"Annabeth," Percy whispered again slightly shaking her, this time, her eyes opened. She blinked and rubbed her eyes before pushing herself up to look at Percy.
"What time is it?" She asked in a sleepy voice.
"Quarter after midnight," Percy replied he didn't know why but he reached up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
Annabeth ducked her head letting out a quiet chuckled. "I probably look like a mess right now."
"No," Percy shook his head. "You still look beautiful." Annabeth's head snapped up. Percy didn't know why he was saying those things; maybe he was still in a dream, or he figured neither of them would remember what happened in the morning but he couldn't help himself.
"Still?" Annabeth blushed slightly in the dim lighting.
"Annabeth, you're gorgeous okay. You're smart, and beautiful, and funny and kind and a great friend and it pains me that you can't see that and how often you beat yourself up trying to achieve stuff that you already are." Percy let the words tumble out of his mouth knowing that there was no going back now.
"Percy what-" Annabeth trailed off her sentence staring at him, and Percy could feel himself leaning forward, h could see the gap between them shortening more and more until he was barely an inch away. Suddenly a large dark mass decided to shoot out from the bedroom and bounce between them throwing them both backwards in a panic.
"Holy shit Po!" Percy exclaimed as the dog squished his way between Annabeth and himself, panting excitedly. Percy looked up at Annabeth who was just staring at him until they both began to laugh hysterically, and continued to laugh until their ribs ached and there were tears in their eyes. Annabeth was the first to calm down and wiped her cheeks dry turning to smile at Percy before leaning in once more, this time, closing the gap completely.
Percy went still as could be as her lips first touched his and could barely sort one thought from the other. Annabeth continued to kiss him, her lips soft and her body warm and he managed to gain control of arms long enough to wrap them around her waist pulling her even closer. She moved to straddle his lap and her arm ran through his desperately messy hair as he tilted his head back to maintain contact with her lips. Annabeth pulled back and Percy audibly groaned in disappointment.
Annabeth chuckled. "You know I really like this late night Percy."
Percy ran his hand up her back and to her face where he pushed another stray hair back. "Why is that?" He smirked.
"He's very open," Annabeth smiled. "And a very good kisser." She leaned down to kiss his cheek and Percy, despite himself, couldn't help but blush.
"We still on for coffee after class on Monday?" He asked in an attempt to flush the colour from his cheeks.
"Sure," Annabeth whispered as she leaned down again, this time stopping an inch away from his lips. "As long as it's a date this time." Percy didn't have a chance to respond.
