Chapter 78 - Cried
"Jasper." Kane stepped forward, "She's so worried about you that she asked me to come get you even though she was so upset from what you said to her. Why are you saying these things?" He pointed a finger to himself, pulling his hood away from his hair, "If you need someone to be mad at, take it out on me! But it's not fair for you to take it out on her."
"Always about fucking you, you and you!" Jasper waved his arm across the table, violently throwing all the bottles of liquor onto the floor, causing Jamie to jump when she heard the raucous. She was afraid to peek since she was unsure what Jasper would do if he knew she was eavesdropping on their conversation, but she wanted to make sure Kane was alright. "Everything has to be done according to you, according to fucking Kane Trésor!"
Kane noticed that Jasper's eyes no longer had any rage but mere hurt, a sadness that he had never thought would be possible to even evoke from him. That made him sigh as he watched Jasper widened his arms and shout, "Well thank you, Kane Trésor! You really saved me because you know what?" He stepped towards him, "Not only do people think I fucking raped the kid, my father disowned me!"
Kane's breath fell caught in his throat as Jasper burst into laughter, a ridiculous long smile pulling his lips as he turned away from Kane, "I no longer have anything but my fucking beat up car, thanks to you, treasure."
"Ally told me," Kane stepped towards him, exhaling a long breath. "But I can help y—"
"You know what? I actually prefer it this way," Jasper chuckled, raising his eyebrows. "This way, I can do whatever I want." He gripped his shirt at his chest, as if attempting to dig into his heart to remove it, in hopes that it would help him stop feeling anything. "I don't need anybody. I don't need to fucking wait for him to come home, to beg him to come to my games or ask him for lunch money since the chef called in sick."
He burst into a few more chuckles before he added, "I don't have to ask him to come to the cemetery with me whenever I feel alone or to include me in whatever trip he takes next. I don't have to ask him to love me or to act like I fucking exist!" He felt his throat clog, as if he was stuck in his next words. "I don't need him anymore!"
Kane never responded, keeping his silence as he stated at Jasper with his eyebrows slanted. As he continued to laugh, Jasper eventually noticed the way Kane stared at him with such pity. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Jasper," Kane stepped forward, pausing for a moment before slowly placing a palm on his shoulder. "You're crying."
When he said that, Jasper felt as if the entire world had stopped for a second, as if his entire drunken facade was over, that reality had settled in that he wouldn't be able to rely on his father anymore. The reality that he had no one anymore because of his own fault, that he was way too much of a nuisance that his father had to disown him. Even worse, he realized that the home he referred to for many years, he was no longer welcomed after he graduated.
And as everything begin to sink in, the only thing Jasper could let his body do was burst into sobs, his cries resounding across the hallway and Jamie inhaled sharply, planting her palm over her mouth. Her eyes became ready as she listened to his tormenting cries, unable to stop himself. He had been avoiding this ever since his father revealed his intentions, but the moment it came out, he couldn't stop.
He didn't even know when he would stop. All he knew was that he needed to cry and he did. His vision became blurry, his arms laid limply at each of his sides as his tears began leaking profusely onto his cheeks. Even when Kane reached around him and tightened him into a warm embrace, he felt too weak to even hug him back. He simply leaned his forehead against Kane's shoulder and cried, cried and cried.
