Chapter 57 - Because of Him
Ava's tears seemed to fill with tiny flames as she stepped backwards and gritted her teeth. "You're going to leave me because of him?"
Jay didn't respond. Instead, his mind was no longer focused on Ava; he had said what he needed to say to her. Regardless of any of her apologies, or how disappointed she was that it had turned out this way, their relationship was done and would always be. There was no way Jay could look at her the same, not after finding out that she had been the one to start flirting with Kane at the party, although he never told her to stop.
That she had even called him late at night to show him this place, the hill that she had told Jay was her special place that no one knew about. Or how she had made plans with him to stay a night in the hotel and when he confronted her about it without knowing that Kane was the other guy, she cried in his arms and said it was all rumours, and that she only wanted him and asked him to be her boyfriend.
All of these had been lies and lies from the starting point and there was nothing but ugliness reflected onto her face, unsure where he had ever seen the beauty. He had no words for her any longer, and she glared at him, her fingers tightening into fists beside her.
"He doesn't even matter, Jay. He never meant anything to me, to any of us." He didn't even look at her anymore, his eyes shifted from his feet to hers; he had nothing left to say and she knew it. "I gave you a necklace with my damn initials, that must mean something." He continued to wipe his tears, his bottom lip still quivering. "Jay, say something! We're still together! You can't leave me like that."
"Ava."
Jay hadn't heard his voice the whole day, but at that moment, he didn't feel anything from it. Kane had meant much more than he realized, being the only thing he looked forward to when heading to school or even his hugs were able to keep him happy for days. Sitting at lunch with him and having him intently listening to his babbles; he barely had any friends before and living alone only made it even more lonely. But Kane had been there for him, retaliated against the football jocks when they bruised his entire face and even invited him to the bar to play pool. He met his family, Tessa was one of the best parents he had ever witnessed.
He never knew all these things were happening behind his back, that Kane had made out with Ally at the party, had hung out with her behind his back, had planned to be at the motel with her. Even worse, he met with her one night and told her to choose him instead of Jay—to the only thing that was bringing him happiness at that moment. He was unsure why all these things happened to him, but it was no longer a surprise. He was always alone, always left out, always the one people avoided.
It was no surprise this betrayal happened.
Ava turned when Kane said her name, and he cleared his throat, "Go home. Let me speak to him, alone."
"No, you've ruined enough between us. I told you not to tell him and you did because you're vindictive."
"It was Jasper that told me," Jay laughed, now eyeing Kane. "Isn't that shocking?" To hear that Kane was hooking up with the one person who never even hid the fact that making Jay's life a living hell was for sole amusement, was heart breaking in itself. There was much more with Jasper that none of them knew, but he never expected Kane to be one of them too.
Kane did not reply to Ava. Instead, his brows furrowed and he stepped towards Jay.
"Yeah, he told me. He told me everything." That was difficult for Kane to say since he whispered a quiet and shaky, "Oh my god" before squeezing his eyes shut and covering his eyes with his palms. "Everything..."
"I was going to tell you Jay."
"When? After you had sex with my girlfriend?"
"She was playing you from the very beginning, I was trying to show you that."
Jay widened his arms, "Then you fucking come to me about it and talk to me. You don't make out with her and plan a hangout at a hotel with her. You don't keep kissing her."
Kane shook his head, "You would have never believed me. I told you so many times not to go for her."
"Why are you so against having people love me?!"
"I'm not! I just knew she wasn't right for you Jay! I just needed to show it to you and needed proof!"
"I would have believed you Kane!" he screamed at the top of his lungs.
Kane rolled his eyes, "No you wouldn't have."
"Yes I would have—"
"How am I supposed to know that?!"
"Because I'm fucking in love with you, Kane Trésor."
