Chapter 56 - I love you, Jaylin
Kane took a step forward, "Jay, are you alright—"
"Stay back," he hissed. The coldness in his tone was filled with such sharp iciness that Kane felt as if he had been pierced through the heart. It was not the voice of the Jay he knew and he watched as Jay lowered his eyes to his feet, pausing for a moment to formulate his thoughts and words.
There was a short pause, and Ava attempted to speak, also stepping forward. "H-Hey babe...what's going—"
"Don't call me that," he spat without raising his eyes. The moment he did say that, both of them felt their hearts because his bottom began to quiver. Then, all of a sudden, he slammed his palms against his eyes, bursting into quiet sobs, hiding them behind his hands and attempting to wipe the tears that he had begged not to show when he arrived here. He had pleaded for his emotions to stay strong, that he didn't need either of them and that he would be okay without them. But staring at the both of them, he wasn't sure if he would be.
Kane wanted to reach forward and embrace him, the same way Jay had done to him. He wanted to comfort him and let him know that he was still there for him and would always be. But he didn't, because he knew he wasn't the one supposed to.
His cries did not seem to calm themselves, as he started wiping his cheeks with his arm sleeves restlessly, only seeing them get soaked even more and his fingers began to tremble. They got worried when his breathing grew heavy, and Ava tried to approach him but when he heard her footsteps, he stepped backwards, "I said stay back."
She stopped, returning beside Kane who gulped. They waited, feeling the guilt start ravaging at their bones but silently, they waited. Jay's cries never really died down, his breathing became slower, but his lips still quivered when he looked and breathed, "J-Just...tell me the truth..." He appeared to be a kid, told the worst news of his life, innocent and broken.
Kane couldn't speak; he felt as if there was a clog in his throat. As for Ava, she rapidly shook her head, "Nothing happened, Jay."
"Please Ava," he pleaded.
Her lips sealed for a moment, and she bit her lips before eventually admitting, "We kissed and we hung out a few times. All of this happened before we were together."
"The hotel thing you had planned, it was with Kane, wasn't it?"
Ally sighed, "Yes it was but it never happened."
"It never happened because he told me and you lied to me, saying that it wasn't true at all and then asked for us to start dating." Jay's eyes lowered to his hands, his fingers curling and squeezing. "It was all...none of it was real..."
"I'll admit I didn't really think much of us at first," she pleaded, her voice quivering as well. After a choking sound, Kane noticing that she was on the brim of tears as well, she added, "But I fell in love with you. I love you, Jaylin."
"That's the worst part," his fingers gripped his sweater right over his heart, "I never had this before. I never thought this sort of thing was possible to someone like me." He shook his head, a sad chuckle escaping his lips and he let his arm fall down to his side, "I guess it isn't possible."
Kane hadn't said anything yet, only because he wasn't sure what to say.
Ava had started to cry at that point, not wanting to lose something she realized meant the world to her. "I'll make it up to you Jay."
"No."
"Please," she walked towards him even though he stepped backwards a few times. She reached him, gripping his shoulder and attempting to meet his gaze but he kept turning away, "I'll be better, it was before we were dating. I will never betray you like that again, ever."
"Get off from me."
"I love you, please..." her breathing stopped when she saw the long smile on his lips with his face filled with glistening tears from the lowering sun.
Then he laughed, "I fucking hate you...so so much." He saw the way her eyes filled with horror, and he ripped her grip from his sweater. "We're done; go to hell."
