Chapter 33 - Date Night

Kane never received calls on his phone. Other than his mother—sometimes Ally to which he ignored—he never called anyone and nobody called him.

Which was a surprise when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket at midnight. He was half-asleep when he reached for his phone, and Ally groaned, twisting in her bed and hissing, "Shut that thing off."

He reached for his phone and without checking the caller ID, he clicked the bright green answer button, "What the fuck do you want?"

"Hello to you as well?"

Kane raised an eyebrow, finally glancing at the caller ID, but that did not change his attitude, burying his face into his pillow, "Why are you calling me at midnight?"

She tightened her robe over her shoulders, glancing over to her door to make sure it was locked—if her younger sister was to burst through her door and hear her conversation, she would get scolded by her mother. She flopped onto her pillow, closing her eyes and picturing the way he stood at the party; his strands falling along his face, his droopy eyes staring at her with such uncontrollable lust, the way he bit his bottom lip and glanced downwards at her lips after their kiss. She could not forget the way his lips had swelled after she bit them, and she held in her excitement.

"For us to start talking, we have to go on dates, right?"

"What is this about because I'm not in the mo—"

"Come over," she whispered quietly, "at 1 am." And before he could protest, she hung up the call.

Ally lifted her head from the pillow, her bed hair running every single direction. Her eyes were squinted as she stared at Kane start to push himself to his feet, "Who was that?"

"Jay's new girl."

She eyed Kane go towards their closet and pick out random clothes, pulling a sweater over his head and shoving his pyjama pants to his waist. He hid his disheveled hair with his hood, a few strands falling as bangs in front of his tired eyes, and he turned to Ally, "I'll be back soon; cover for me."

Ally raised an eyebrow before turning the other way, "I don't even want to know why you're going to see Jay's girl at midnight."

"You're the best," and he quietly closed the door behind him.

The home was dead silent, he could hear the snoring of Mike from the other bedroom, and he quietly walked to the kitchen where he knew he would find his mother's purse. He grabbed her keys, stopping them from clinking against one another in his hands, and slowly stepped towards the door, the creaking from the wooden floors almost revealing his intentions.

Soon, he was out of the door without anyone's notice, and entered his mother's car, revving the engine and backing away from the driveway and onto the road.

Ally's home was a twenty minute drive, and during the time, watching the lights flicker from red to green and the minimal pedestrians on the streets, he was unsure why he was headed there. His mind was focused on proving to Jay that Ava was not the princess he thought she was, and she wouldn't be good for him, but he was unsure as to why he was terribly determined to do so. He obviously loved Jay as a friend, but it angered him that Ava had flirted with him back and acted cluelessly today at lunch.

Although he had done the same.

He exhaled a long sigh, shaking his head to calm himself down. Today was going to be the last day he's meddling with any of this. He was better than this, better than all these revenge plotting and wanting to get rid of Ava and needing to get back at everyone—he needed to focus on himself. He was going to go to Ava's and let her know they were both drunk, and he did something he shouldn't have done. Then, he would apologize to Jay.

As that would be the correct thing to do. Jay would most likely stop talking to him, maybe stop being friends with him, but it was his decision and his only.

Kane finally parked at Ava's home, hiding behind the wooded area of her home and pressing the numbers of his phone number. She did not respond, instead, the call went straight to voicemail and shortly after, he saw her pale figure walk towards the car and make his way around before entering the passenger seat. The sudden of roses overwhelmed the car, and Kane felt his heart be sucked in.

"Hi," she said out of breath, smiling at him as she shuffled to comfort, "I said 1 am."

"Look, we have to talk—"

Ava shook her head, "I want to show you a spot first. Then we can talk about whatever."

Kane pulled his hood further over his head, "We have school tomorrow, I can't stay out long."

"It won't be long." There was something terribly enticing whenever she spoke, as if her tongue simply glided along her lips to speak the words, every single of her syllables have their own rhythm and melodies that Kane even glanced her direction. She was wearing a beige robe with shorts, and DJ not even bother to wear a shirt, her bra slightly visible through the opening of her robe.

She did that on purpose.

Kane started the car and drove away from her home, and he followed each finger points she did. Every time she pointed, he would stare at the light posts reflections as it brightened a few sections of her skin, and he could see how smooth it was.

Throughout the drive, she attempted to make small tam that he was not interested in hearing.

"I've been to England when I was younger to visit my uncle. He's a musician, plays in a local band."

Kane stayed quiet.

"Other than that, I haven't been much places." She eyed his relaxed form, "Do you have siblings?" Kane did not respond, instead met her gaze for a moment before snorting and turning away. She raised an eyebrow, "What's this animosity I'm feeling?"

"You're talking to Jay," his response was short and blunt, diving a dagger straight into her.

Ava furrowed her brows, "We're not dating—"

"That doesn't mean you can play him."

"You didn't seem to mind a few nights ago."

"I was drunk," he reinforced, his fingers tightening in the steering wheel, "we were both drunk. This is us and we're sober." When he only heard silence as a response, he glanced in her direction and noticed a smirk twinkling her lips. He rolled his eyes, "What?"

"I'm trying to believe you, but there's a reason why you came."

Kane said, "To tell you that this is done—"

"No," her fingers touched his upper thigh, slowly tippy-toeing towards his knee and dragging her nails back over to his waist, "you wouldn't have came if that was the case."

Kane gripped her fingers and pushed them away, "Where's this spot you're talking about?"
