Chapter 101 - On My Own
"This is my dad's house!" Jasper snapped back, noticing a few of them quivered. "I'm legally required to—"
"Sir, keep your hands in the air!"
"Fine," Jasper lifted them even higher, hissing a curse word under his breath. He had forgotten about the camera feed his father had, able to see anything that happened inside the home through his cellular device. That was how his father had found out about him being gay, a topic they spoke about once and never mentioned again.
Jasper watched as one officer began slowly stepping towards him. When they were finally able to reach him, he was instantly grasped and slammed against the floor, hearing him groan and grunt by how tightly they squeezed his hands behind his back. "I'm not resisting, you don't have to—argh!" When he was suddenly tased on his back, feeling the sharpest brain spread instantly throughout all his bones, he growled loudly, a few officers growing worried and aiding in his arrest.
"I fucking live here—"
"You have the right to remain silent. Any thing you say can and will be used against y—"
"I fucking know my rights, jerk off," Jasper retorted, letting the officers pull himself to his feet. There were a few of them that were shortened than him, eyeing him nervously as Jasper glared at them. "Why the fuck did you guys tase me when I was already on the fucking ground?"
"We we're told you were armed with a sledge hammer, Jasper." When he noticed how had spoken from the side, he realized it was a familiar face who's eyes were hidden under his cap's shadow. Jasper had completely forgotten that he had been apart of this station and cursed under his breath the minute he saw him. He was not supposed to alert the public that he had returned for a short period of time, but there was no way this man was not going to blab his mouth to his son.
"Zyder has been worried about you for weeks," Sergeant Timmins approached him, ordering the other officers to remove their hands from him and narrowing his eyes at the one who had tased Jasper before returning his attention to him. "My boy even cried one night, Jaz. And you come back out of the blue with buzz cut and tattoos on your god damn neck."
Jasper did not say anything, simply let himself get shoved inside a police car before Zyder's father slammed the door shut and made his way around to the driver's seat. He roared the motor, waved for his officers to follow him and drifted onto the road.
The last time he had seen Jasper was the the football game where everything had gone haywire. He had asked Zyder about it, but Zyder had dismissed the conversation, said he would speak to Jasper to make sure everything was alright. Then, they had their party where Zyder had decided to give Jasper his space, but the next morning he had completely vanished. Zyder had tried Jasper's cellphone multiple times and it went directly to voicemail, not texts were returned and he had even gone by his home, left sulking when none answered the door.
Chief Timmins had caught Zyder in his room once, laying with his phone in his hand. He was confused since he heard sniffling, but when he made his presence known, Zyder rapidly pulled a smile and wiped his cheeks. When confronted about the cries, he eventually admitted that he had no idea where Jasper had gone, and he had thought they had been much closer than he realized. They had grown up together, been there for one another for years, only to be left in the dust when facing the worst. Even though it had nothing to do with Chief Timmins, he felt for his boy, which was why he couldn't help but glare at Jasper through his rear view mirror.
However, Jasper was not in the mood for a little reunion, and that glare was only angering him even more. Not only had he been pinned to the ground which had scraped his chin, he was certainly going to bruise where he had been tased and his entire still felt as if it was stinging because of it. And now, receiving deathly eyes from a parent was not helping whatsoever.
Jasper leaned against the window, attempting to ignore the narrowed gaze but the burning sensation on the side of his cheek caused the flames to combust as he hissed, "Stop fucking staring at me."
"Excuse-me?!"
"Greg," Jasper eyed him through the bulletproof glass, furrowing his brows as they shadowed his green eyes, "I said stop staring at me."
"Are you fucking—" Suddenly the car diverted off the road and came onto an abrupt stop, Jasper barely missing the glass from hitting his nose.
Chief Timmins stepped down from the car and made his way around to the passenger door where Jasper sat. He pulled the door open, gripped Jasper by his collar and shoved him out of the vehicle. Not only was he enraged that Jasper had completely vanished from his son's life, but Jasper had never disrespected him in this manner. If it hadn't been for him, these other police officers would have most likely tased him even more, but they hadn't because he was present.
Jasper's back his throat car door, broadened his shoulders as he menacingly eyed Greg, his hands handcuffed behind his back. Greg placed his palm on his hip, staring at Jasper before slowly shaking his head. "I knew your father should have been there for you more often; I told him that you'd eventually lose yourself."
That triggered a sudden nerve in Jasper's brain, pushing himself off the car as he spat, "You know nothing about me!"
"I became your fucking father because yours was never there, Jasper!" He shouted back, stepping towards him with his teeth gritted. "Where is this coming from anyway?"
"It's coming from the fact that you people always have to get involved," he snapped, shrugging his shoulders. "I was supposed to come and leave, not be arrested and—"
"That's your own fault, Jasper!" He pointed a finger his direction, shaking his head. "You decided to destroy your father's house, not me!"
"He's never there anyway!"
"That doesn't make it right!" He screamed at the top of his lunges, noticing how Jasper's lips instantly slammed shut the moment his voice raised higher than usual. He took that moment to pause for a second, inhaling a sharp breath and regaining his calm before he added, "You broke the law, and I'm not mad at you about it, I can definitely get you off." He stepped closer to him, removing his cap for his eyes to deeply stare into Jasper's, exact replicas of Zyder's irises. Greg's entire face softened, as if he was seeing the young boy that desperately wanted affection, spending as much time as he could in their home and begging to stay when it was time for him to return to his mansion that his father always left empty.
Jasper had been a second son to him; he had cared for him. He had been the one to get him into football—when Zyder joined a teenage league, Jasper was terribly saddened that he no longer had time to hang out with Zyder after school that Greg decided to add Jasper as well, marking him down as being his own son. Even when Jasper admitted that he had been gay, Greg had cried, saddened that he felt the need to hide himself from anyone.
The Jasper who eyed him with such hatred and rage was not the one he remembered and it was causing a stinging in his heart. He cleared his throat, sighing before he said softly, "I'm mad that you didn't let us help you. Zyder had always been there for you—you should have at least told him where you went to stop him from worrying."
Jasper felt his heart clamp, and he forced him to glance elsewhere, knowing that if he stared longer, he wouldn't be able to resist the ache in his chest. "I needed my own space."
"That's fine," Greg shrugged his shoulders, putting his cap back on his head. "But you didn't even ask us for help when we helped you ever since you were a kid."
"It was too late."
"No it wasn't Jasper," he sighed, glancing elsewhere and eyeing the cars driving down the road. "We would have figured something out."
Jasper shook his head, biting his bottom lip before whispering, "Dad kicked me out."
Greg inhaled a sharp breath when he heard the news. He had spoken to Jasper's father multiple times before and knew he was always busy and travelling all over the place without his son. However, he never expected Jasper to left to fend for himself. Even so, Greg shrugged his shoulders and said, "You have a home with us, you know that."
"I need to stop relying on everyone around me."
"What's so bad about helping you getting back on your feet?" Greg raised an eyebrow.
He watched as Jasper turned away. "I did it on my own."
"No you didn't Jasper," Greg exhaled a long sigh, pushing him back into the car before closing it. He had never seen Jasper this way before and from the way he appeared—aggressive and filled with rage—he knew that boy had nothing good to come if he continued down the path he was on.
