Flashback in Tomoe's POV

I walked on a path of death because I saw Yukiji die right before my eyes.

I wanted to be with her for as long as I could, but why? Why couldn't it be me?

"Hey, what are you doing?" A man in a kimono asked me.

"Walking and waiting to die." I responded.

"Well, why do you want to die?"

"My love has just been slaughtered and I want to die because I wanted to spend my life with that human. But now, she is gone and I cannot go to where she is."

"Then come with me if you have no where to go. I'll help you until you fully recover." I didn't want to go, but I had a feeling to go.

When we got there he told me to take my clothes off and since I had nothing at all, I did what I was told.

"Oh, you have the marks of an enchantment spell by a former god. Did you make a contract with that god?"

"I swore that I would live with a human for the rest of our lives, but since she died... I shall die too." I said with agony.

"Well, just rest for now. You will be fine now." I slept after that.

Present day still in Tomoe's POV

I woke up from a real life dream and saw a figure, a person in front of me.

"Mikage?!?" I whispered/yelled to myself as I tried to wake up.

When I grabbed the arm of that person, it was Mizuki.

"Tomoe, your awake!"

"Ugh, what happened?" I asked.

"You fell asleep and I just watched outside."

"That's not what familiars are suppose to be doing!"

"But Tomoe, you weren't doing anything too!" I kicked Mizuki to next week, and started doing the chores.

Mizuki's POV

I had to sweep the yard because Tomoe told me to. While I was sweeping, Onikiri came and walked with something in ,his or her... most likely a her, hands.

"Hey, Onikiri."

"Yes, Mizuki?"

"Why is Tomoe like this?"

"Well he is very find of this shrine because of Mikage, you see..." we sat down and Onikiri told me the story, I could imagine it.

Flashback in third persons's POV

"You will work as a familiar at this shrine, Tomoe." Mikage, the land god said.

"I don't think I will be able to live in a place like this."

"Don't worry. The spirits will welcome and help you, we will just have to seal the contract."

A month later

"Aaaahhhhh!" a woman yelled on a bridge near the Mikage shrine.

"Mmmm, women flesh." the yōkai on the bridge started to crawl to the woman until a certain someone came and crushed the yōkai's head with his foot.

"So your the yōkai that has been scaring the people of the village. My master is very fed up with you." the woman came and grabbed Tomoe by hugging him.

"Please save me!" she cried.

"Ugh, get off me you human!!!"

"Aaahhh!" she yelled once again.

A while later at the Mikage shrine

"So, you chased this woman with your fox flames, and the yōkai got away."

"Wow, Mikage. It's like you were watching."

"I'm angry!!! Now that your a familiar here, you need to show more love to humans. Don't scare them." Tomoe came up to him and rubbed his hand on Mikage.

"What are you doing?"

"A human touched me earlier."

"I'm not a hand towel! This time I will show you no mercy, so sit down now!" Mikage nagged and nagged to Tomoe, until day.

"They're still having that conversation now, it's morning already." Kotetsu said, while folding papers with Onikiri.

"Yes, and why did Mikage make him a familiar to this shrine." Onikiri replied.

"I don't know. We should hurry up with these because the wind god just came back from his vacation, so he is coming here."

"What?!?We must hurry and clean! Because that fox won't do anything anyway."

"Oh, really." Tomoe just came into the room.

"Ah! Your here!"

"Yes, we just finished the conversation. So, Mikage's friend is coming here?"

"Yes, but master fox, please do not forget your job as a familiar to the shrine." Kotetsu told him.

"Hah, acting all high and mighty. Tell me that with your actuall face." Tomoe got Kotetsu's mask off and stayed silent for a while then put his mask back.

"Never mind." Kotetsu fixed his mask back into place, and Tomoe left the room.

Mikage was sitting on a chair, which looked like a throne, sobbing.

"Why is this thing with Tomoe so hard?" he asked himself.

"It's been a month since he has become my familiar, and nothing has changed about his attitude."

"Lord Mikage, why did you bring master fox here to the shrine?" Onikiri asked while sitting near the throne.

"The look on his face. I could see that he was on the edge of death. I had to help him." He put his hand up and a butterfly came out of nowhere.

"You see, I care about him."

Back to Tomoe

Tomoe was standing on the bridge where the yōkai, who got away, used to be.

"Hey! Are you that 'used to be' yōkai!?!"

"Your a familiar now, to some land god? That's histerical!" Three heads, who came out of the river, beneath the lake, said.

"If you got a problem with us, then jump in the water! I dare you." one said.

"Just you wait, when my master allows me to, I'll kill you all with my bear hands."

"Um, hello?" Tomoe turned around to the voice and it was the woman.

"It is you! I knew it! I knew that if I waited long enough, you would show up." She walked closer to Tomoe.

"Get away or I'll cut your hand off!" Tomoe threatened her.

"No you won't. Your white and beautiful, I know you won't."

"Get away!" He smacked her hand away. And Mikage showed up in front of Tomoe.

"Go now," Mikage starts to tell her in a calm voice.

"Your nursing brother is crying at home."

"Uh, Okay!" she ran back from where she came.

"Why do you hate humans so much, Tomoe?"

"Because they're weak. I don't want to deal with the weak."

"Your the weak one." Mikage told Tomoe. Tomoe's eyes widened.

"Grow stronger." then they both left to the shrine.

A day later

"Hey Mikage! It's been like a hundred years! I have a gift for you!" The wind god, Otohiko, came to the shrine.

"Um, Mikage?"

"I think I made Tomoe angry. I can't find him. I hope he's okay."

"Um... I came at a bad moment didn't I?" No one responded to him/her. The spirits got out of the room and searched for Tomoe.

"Tomoe... Oh there you are Tomoe." Kotetsu said.

"What do you want? Did Mikage's friend leave already?"

"Yes, just now. Tomoe, remember you're still a familiar so please go pour Mikage's sake, it is his drinking day."

"Why can't you two do it?"

"Because filling a god's cup, is a familiars job."

Onikiri and Kotetsu bowed to Tomoe and Tomoe turned around. He and the spirits walked down the hallway to get to where Mikage was sitting.

"Ah, Tomoe, can you please do the honor of drinking with me today?" Tomoe sat down with Mikage and they looked at the sky.

From that moment on, Tomoe kept on doing the duties of a familiar... until that one day.

"I'm going into town, Tomoe. Please look after the shrine until I come back."

Mikage left the shrine for twenty years. And then Nanami and Emi came along.

Present day

"Ah, so that's why he's like this when it comes to the shrine."

"Yes, he has become more calmer since Emi and Nanami came to the shrine."

"Hey snake, what are you doing?"

"Don't worry Tomoe, I'm just drinking."

"Drinking day and night... get to work!" Tomoe kicked Mizuki to next week, again.

"Jeez, is Nanami and Emi still asleep? They're gonna be late." Tomoe mumbled to himself. He went into the shrine and tried to wake them up.

"Nanami! Emi! Get up! Your gonna be late to school!"

"No, we're gonna be late to school... Fine. Ugh, I hate you right now." Emi mumbled.

"Okay, just get up!"

Hey lamas! This is like a month old and in so very sorry! A certain parent in my family made me practice dancing for the entire week and the last week! I'm so tired, my feet are cramping!
