“You always get more respect when you don't have a happy ending.”
― Julia Quinn
EVERETT P.O.V
It worked. Tarik’s idea worked and I was so glad it worked.
I stared at Templar’s sleeping form in the couch. Tarik had put her to sleep during sunset but then he woke up all of a sudden because he wanted to see if the spirit had taken over her even when she is put to sleep.
Unsurprisingly, yes, the spirit did take over her even when she is put to sleep. But because Templar’s body is asleep, the spirit can do nothing. Instead, it’s kept caged inside a body which refuses to move.
Tarik was also asleep beside her and I sighed. My wolf didn’t like that he was holding Templar’s hand but I let it pass because this was all happening so that Templar can get her wolf soon.
“They are out?” January asked standing near the doorway with Terence.
“Yes” I replied staring at Templar. She wasn’t herself now and I could see it clearly with the change in her behavior. It was because of Drew who had taken over Templar’s body.
“Good thing this worked. It’s way better than drugging her” January said staring at Templar.
“Take her to your room” Terence suggested and I shook my head.
“Tarik should be holding her hand” I said with a growl and they nodded in understanding.
“You want me to stay?” Terence queried and I replied with a negative. “Alright” he said and walked away with his mate.
Sighing, I brought a pillow and mattress, placed it on the living room floor and decided to sleep there for what was left of the night.
I groaned when I heard the annoyingly familiar tune of my alarm.
Rubbing my eyes, I sat up and ran a hand through my messy hair. I stared at Tarik and Templar who were both sitting and sleeping on the couch.
Sighing, I stood up and kept the mattress and the pillow back in my room. Then returned to the living room and decided to wake Tarik up first. The sun was up and Templar would be back to normal.
I shook him multiple times but there was no reaction from him. Then I decided to loosen his grip on Templar’s hand but that too didn’t work, because I felt current passing through me when I touched their hand. I jumped back from the shock.
Not knowing what exactly to do next, I decided to go and bring Adio here.
Twenty minutes later, Adio was in the house. He stared at his son and sighed before going and pressing a nerve from his hand. Tarik woke up with a jolt and then blinked repeatedly. Adio spoke something to him in their language and Tarik nodded. Sighing, he loosened the hold he had on Templar’s hand.
“She will wake up in another five minutes” Tarik informed me and I nodded. Carrying Templar in my arms, I took her upstairs but stopped in my tracks when Adio called me.
“I want to talk to you” Adio said and I blinked in confusion. “Let’s meet near the temple at nine” he suggested and I nodded.
Wrapping a towel around my waist, I stepped out of the shower and saw Templar who was washing her face. “Good morning” I said and she blushed. My wolf purred when he saw it but I didn’t want him to react much to it. As much as I loved to, I didn’t want to because Templar was still not well.
Without another glance at her, I walked straight towards our closet. If Templar was shocked, she didn’t mention it.
After getting dressed, I directly went to the temple. I couldn’t wait to hear what Adio wanted me to talk to me about.
Adio came there exactly at nine.
I had been waiting for nearly two hours. My wolf was desperate to hear what Adio wanted to say.
I was sitting in the stairs at the front of the temple and Adio sat a little away from me. “How long have you been waiting for Mr. Green?” Adio queried.
“Just for few minutes” I answered with a shrug and Adio shook his head. “Why did you call me here?”
“Your mate… she is not Patricia’s heir” Adio said with a frown and I looked at him in bewilderment.
“She is not.”
“Templar’s last name is Wayne. Patricia’s last name was Lassiter after she married Alexander” Adio said and I nodded, really not understanding where is he going with all this. “She is from a different family.”
“I know that”
“Patricia’s statue is in the neighboring pack” Adio added.
“Yes. It’s in Firelight Pack.”
“Are you friends with the Alpha of that pack?” Adio demanded.
“Yes”
“Will he let us come to his pack?”
“Yes. Myron wouldn’t mind” I said dismissively. I didn’t know why exactly it is that important to Adio but I still nodded.
“Myron? Your friend who came to Rómvos?”
“That’s him”
“He is Patricia’s descendant?” Adio asked in astonishment and I cocked an eyebrow.
“Yes. Why is it so important?”
“We need someone from Patricia’s family to sacrifice blood” Adio stated and I inhaled sharply. Sacrifice blood? How?
Death?
“Blood?” I whispered.
“Just few drops from a cut in his palm Mr. Green” Adio said with a smile and I let out a breath.
Oh! Thank-God!
“I thought your mate was a descendant of Patricia’s and that it would be easier for us to take a drop of blood from her. But after I saw your temple without a statue in front, I got confused. However, now everything is cleared” Adio was right. I understood why he was asking me so many questions earlier.
“Even though your mate is not a descendant, your friend is and his blood is a must” Adio declared and I nodded in understanding.
He needed Myron’s blood to call Patricia.
“One more thing Mr. Green, The white wolf will have to be taken to FireLight Pack on the eclipse” Adio said and my eyes were as wide as saucers.
“What? Why?”
“That’s where the Patricia’s statue is” Adio answered and I frowned.
“What’s with this Patricia’s statue? Why is it so important? Why cannot you help Templar in bringing her wolf back here in my pack?” I snapped in serious frustration. My wolf bristled in annoyance.
“Did you know that her statue was made days after her death?” Adio asked and I shook my head as a reply.
“Patricia’s ashes were used to make that statue Mr. Green” Adio announced and I looked at him in stark disbelief.
That statue was made out of her ashes?
When Adio noticed my expression, he just nodded once.
“She didn’t die like others. Her soul left her body on her free will” he said and I bobbed my head. “I am sure you are aware of the promise she made before her death, that she will come again if there is any evil?”
“Yes. I am aware of it” I replied.
“Well, for that to happen true, she had told her pack members, to use her ashes to make a statue” Adio added and now, I nodded in understanding. “If Patricia comes back, then it is going to happen only in FireLight Pack, Mr. Green” Adio declared and I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose.
“You want to go there?” I questioned.
“Yes”
“We have only three more days. I will ask my pack members to take you there.”
“An excellent idea”
“What are you going to do there?” I demanded.
“I have to look at the place and see that is it possible for me to do what I intend to do” Adio chose his words carefully. I couldn’t understand what he said, but I still nodded.
My wolf was pacing inside me, but I held him back. All I knew was that, this man is the only one who is capable of helping Templar and I needed his help… desperately.
“You can return before evening?”
“No. I might stay there for the night” Adio replied and I sighed.
“Alright. I am going to inform Myron” I said standing up. I was about to leave, but stopped when I realized one main thing. “Is Tarik going with you too?”
Adio nodded and I paled.
Do I have to drug Templar, again, tonight?
“Is something wrong?” Adio asked when he noted my pale face.
“Tarik… He would help Templar stay asleep throughout the night” I whispered.
“I know” Adio said and I scowled at him.
“What am I going to do tonight?” I snapped. “I cannot drug her again. It is not good for her health.”
Adio sighed as a reply, which only deepened my scowl. “I am aware of it Mr. Green”
“Then what should I do?”
“I will send my son home before sunset” Adio announced and I heaved a sigh. I wanted Tarik to put Templar to sleep all through the night. It’s better than drugging her.
When I returned home, Templar was in the living room and typing her novel. I stood beside her and stared at the screen.
She was writing about a conversation scene between a brother and a sister.
“What’s the story about?” I asked Templar sitting beside her. She jumped and then blinked, startled to see me.
“I didn’t sense you coming” she said and I shrugged. “Where were you?”
“In the guest house. I had to talk about business with Adio” I lied.
“But you were not there when I came to the guest house” Templar said with a frown.
“We were walking and talking until we reached the temple”
“Oh… okay! Where did you have your breakfast?”
“I wasn’t hungry” But now I am very hungry. “You prepared lunch?”
“Yes. Your sandwich is kept in the box. Eat” she said looking back at her laptop screen.
“So, what’s the story about?” I demanded while I was eating my sandwich.
“It’s about a crazy stalker” Templar replied and I cocked an eyebrow. She scrunched up her nose when I did that and I smiled.
Yesterday night, when Drew had possessed Templar’s body, he didn’t even care if I had cocked an eyebrow. He didn’t even know about it and that just made me wonder how I could have been so stupid. How could I not realize from the start that Templar was behaving odd?
However, I was glad I found the source of the problem as well as a solution to the problem before the eclipse or else, due to my ignorance, I would have lost Templar forever.
That thought made me shudder and I closed my eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Templar asked placing a hand over mine. Smiling, I shook my head.
“So, who is the crazy stalker stalking the main girl?” I queried.
“I never said the stalker was stalking the main girl” Templar replied.
“It’s obvious” I said with a shrug.
“In cliché books. Not mine” She professed fiercely and I smiled.
“So, who is the stalker and whom is the stalker stalking?” I asked taking another huge bite of my sandwich.
“The stalker is the main girl” she replied with a smirk and I stopped eating.
“What?”
“The stalker is the main girl” she said with a laugh. “It is going to be revealed only later though” she added pointedly and I nodded.
“Okay, so the main girl is obsessed with a guy, her neighbor. But he already has a girlfriend and our girl tries to kill the girlfriend numerous times, but every time I depict the scene in such a way, it seems like the main girl is the victim to the girlfriend’s attacks. The only thing obvious is that the main girl doesn’t find anything wrong in her behavior. Instead, she thinks the girlfriend is trying to hurt her all the time."
If only she knew, how similar this story was to what was actually happening in her life. All bad is being done by her to the temple, but she doesn’t know it, just like the girl in her book.
“What happens at the end?” I had to know.
“Well the guy sends her to an asylum”
“She recovers?”
“She does. She is not bad. She got obsessed with the guy because he reminded her of her late husband.”
“And?”
“And after she recovers, she decides to help other such people who go through the same thing as she did”
“She helps others?”
“Yes. She helps other such patients. She opens an organization, she leads it and she ensures everything goes well.”
I do hope Templar’s life changes for good once she gets her wolf back.
“Sounds more like a starting than ending” I remarked and she chuckled.
“That’s because it is. It is revealed after five chapters that she has a problem and then she is treated very badly. Beaten, stripped naked… tortured. The story is all about how this once crazy-obsessed-stalker and now, fully recovered girl, earns respect for herself in the society.
That sounded wonderful. That is what I want for Templar.
Most packs have bad impression about White Wolf now but I do hope after she has recovered, Templar gets the respect she deserves from all our kind.
“It’s good” I said and Templar beamed. Leaning forward, I kissed her.
Templar smiled against my lips and within no time clutched a fistful of my hair with her hand and started kissing me back. My wolf sighed and closed his eyes blissfully.
I pulled away quickly because I didn’t want to get carried away. I didn’t want to touch Templar until she fully recovers.
When I looked at Templar, I noticed that she had paled and I frowned.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing” she replied looking away but I cupped her cheeks and forced her to look at me.
“Tell me” I ordered. “What’s wrong?”
“Do you not want me anymore?” Templar asked in a meek voice, color rising on her cheeks.
I closed my eyes and touched my forehead against hers. I do. I do want her. However, I couldn’t… at least not now.
“I do” I answered truthfully.
“Then why?”
I had no other option but to lie, “Sveta said, we have to wait for at least one more week and trust me the wait is killing me” I mumbled.
“She did?”
“Yes”
“Why didn’t she tell me?”
“I suppose she forgot”
“But Dr. Jonathan-” I growled loudly as I heard that fuckers name. It was because of him that today Templar has so much problem. I wanted to kill him but I will not because he is Templar’s transgressor more than he is mine.
Templar stopped and looked at me questioningly.
“He… he is not your doctor. Sveta is” I answered. Randall Jonathan doesn’t even have a doctor’s degree. He is a bloody fraud.
“Oh. I wasn’t aware” she admitted weakly and I tucked a strand of Templar’s dark brown hair behind her ears. “It’s good you changed. Dr. Jonathan said, I would get my wolf back within two weeks but…” she trailed off and I shook my head.
“You will get your wolf back” I stated confidently.
“How are you so sure?” Templar asked in a shaky voice.
“I know because my wolf can still feel his mate. He cannot connect with her, but he can sense her presence” I said looking at her dark brown eyes.
It was true. Ever since, I found Templar in that clinic, my wolf could sense his mate, but he couldn’t get any response from her, no matter how much he tried.
At that time I had believed Randall and thought that it was because Templar’s wolf was taking time to recover, but now I knew the truth was something else.
Templar nodded with a smile. “I hope so too” she whispered when I kissed her forehead.
Pulling away, I picked up another sandwich and started eating it, while Templar resumed writing. “By the way, I like the ending and I hope it might get applied in real life too” I said after sometime and Templar furrowed her brows.
“What?” she asked in confusion.
“I said I like the ending” I replied with a smile.
