Choosing Freedom from the
Patterns That Bind You
TEMPLAR P.O.V
‘That was fun’ I told Jan through the link when we were returning home after the hunting.
‘Fun?’ she said incredulously. ‘We couldn’t catch a single prey, all thanks to Sveta’ Jan complained and I laughed.
‘True, but you got to admit the chase was fun’ I told her.
‘Yeah, I almost bit that deer’s tail’ she said chuckling.
We were walking in the woods; actually Jan was I was sitting on her back though.
My gaze fell on the white walls of the moon temple. I didn’t visit there ever since I came back.
‘It is beautiful’ Jan told me.
‘You’ve been there?’
‘Yeah, Terence took me there the day he marked me’
‘Oh! You never told me the marking story’ I told her.
‘Nothing much, we went to the temple and while returning had a small make-out session, he took the opportunity and bit me. I realized a little late what he did’ Jan said guiltily.
‘It’s not your fault’
‘I could have tried to stop him. Anyway I took the revenge so it’s all cool’
‘Uh- what revenge?’
‘I shifted in his car’
‘Oh dear’ I said gasping. If anything like that happened to my Arrogant I might have a heart attack.
My Arrogant is my most precious asset.
‘Thanks’ she said chuckling. ‘Do you want to go to the temple?’
I did, but I was wearing only Everett’s shirt and that would be inappropriate so I decided to go a little later.
It was late in the evening and I just finished training Theo so I decided to go the temple.
I was walking in the woods and smelled a familiar scent so I followed it.
I saw Keith who was sitting on a broken tree branch.
“Keith, what are you doing here?” I asked him.
“Chilling” he said smiling and showing me all his pearly whited. I frowned when I noticed the liquor bottles around him.
“Is everything okay?” I asked sitting next to him. He reeked of alcohol and I scrunched my nose at that. “How long have you been drinking?”
“Just started” he said smiling and I frowned harder because there was at least ten empty bottles around. He wasn’t sober.
“That’s it. Get up, we are going to the house” I said getting up and tugging his arm.
“I am not going anywhere” he said pushing my hands.
“Why not?”
“Wherever I go, I see mates. The blushing, holding hands, sucking each other’s face, cuddling… all make me sick” he said and pretended to gag while I stared at him not knowing what to say.
“You know I didn’t want a mate on my sixteenth birthday, I wanted to enjoy life.” He said chuckling. “Everyone found their mates. You, Ben everyone. I am the last one left in the group and I doubt whether I have one” he continued talking staring ahead.
“Don’t say that. You’ll find your mate one day and she’ll love you more than anything” I said comforting but he scoffed at that.
“I don’t have a mate” he said.
I didn’t want him to be like this, he looked so sad and it hurt. I knew he must feel really lonely when we are all with our mates.
“Keith, you are drunk. We’ll talk tomorrow” I told and started tugging his arms again.
“No. I want to talk now. I want to know why I don’t have a mate” he shouted. “Am I that bad?”
“Keith please, Calm down we’ll talk tom-”
“I want to know why?” he screamed.
He was my best friend but he looked so broken and sad now. I wanted to do something for him but I couldn’t do anything.
“I am ranting, aren’t i?” he asked me somberly while I stared at him. “I should better go. Sorry” he said walking away.
I watched him until he vanished from my view. I asked Cam through the link to go and talk to Keith. I didn’t want him to be like this.
I also knew he wouldn’t have been like this if we hadn’t found our mate. He must feel lonely now, since we all have our mates.
We never considered about that.
I decided to pray for him so that he would also find his mate soon. With that thought I started walking towards the temple.
I entered the temple and gasped at the sight in front of me.
The temple was renovated and I knew it was done by Rett. The temple was still more beautiful to look.
The wide hall walls were painted creamy white which matched with the color of tiles on the floor. I could see my reflection on those crystal clear tiles.
I removed my sandals and kept it in a corner so that the tiles will not be ruined.
There were fire torches on either side of the wall.
At the end of the hall there were around five broad stairs that led to a platform where the statue was kept.
There were two silver statues of wolf at the bottom of those stairs. The wolves had craned their necks and looked ready to howl.
My eyes then fell on the beautiful statue of the goddess.
The silver statue of the moon goddess was the same one that Ryker had tried to steal.
The dome of the temple had an opening in it for the light rays to pass and fall directly over the statue, illuminating it.
I saw some ladies lighting candles around the platform others placing flowers near the statue.
They were all from the old pack and I instantly recognized them. They always kept their children away from me since I was considered to be ‘cursed’.
As soon as they saw me they bowed their heads respectfully and I frowned at that. They were doing this because I was their alpha’s mate.
I ignored them and walked to light a candle in front of the statue. They all stepped back and went to a corner when they saw me approaching.
After lighting a candle, I kneeled down and joined my hands to pray.
When I closed my eyes the images of the attack scene flashed in my mind. I opened my eyes and blinked a few times.
“Are you okay?” one of the ladies asked but I didn’t respond.
I closed my eyes again and the same images kept popping in my head. I had been there on the day I arrived and I almost had a similar memory. There was something in there and I needed to find it.
I looked at the goddess statue and smiled, like always I found it difficult placing the face of the statue for the image of goddess in my mind.
In the image I have of the goddess in my mind I always find it difficult to put a face for the goddess.
The ladies were looking at me with concern however i didn’t bother explaining them. So, I prayed and left the temple.
I was sitting in the same rock that I had sat the other day in the beach. I closed my eyes and began concentrating.
Minutes later, I found myself in the same woods were the attack had happened. I saw the Ryker thief running ahead with Sir Thomas and the others following him.
Without wasting any minute I ran behind them.
Ryker was now standing in the cliff where he was surrounded by pack members.
‘Give the statue back’ Sir Thomas growled at the thief who was smirking. The thief caught the statue above him and threw it with full force.
My eyes fluttered open and I stared at the waves in front of me. I was not scared about what happened to the statue because I knew Sir Thomas fell on the ground forcing the statue to land on his back.
But I still got the clue as to why the images where popping in my head.
I dived into the water and decided to revisit the attack scene because there is definitely something in there.
I was running in the woods and saw a familiar large black wolf with striking blue eyes running besides me.
Everett.
I stopped and he did too. He brought his face closer and I gently rubbed my hands on the soft black fur of his head.
His large wolf that was in face level with me now whined softly when I did that.
He nuzzled closer to me and I slipped balance and fell flat on the ground with my back. I could literally see the amused look in Everett’s wolf when he came over me.
He bent his head and sniffed me a little before licking my neck.
“Yuck! Get off me” I screamed giggling and I felt my wolf purring inside me.
She liked it.
Stupid animal.
He continued licking and sniffing my cheeks and they were all wet now.
“I hate you” I said shoving him off me. However before I could sit straight he came above me and nuzzled closer to me and I knew he would shift back to human.
Oh dear lord! It is difficult to think straight when half naked Everett is in front of me can anyone imagine how would it be if he was in his birthday suit?
I shoved him harder and he rolled and fell near me. I took that opportunity to get up and stand.
“You are not shifting back, you get that?” I warned him narrowing my eyes and pointing my index finger at him. He lowly growled at me and nodded his big black head.
I started walking towards the attack scene and I heard him growling again from behind. I turned and saw him coming towards me.
With his head he motioned for me to sit on his back and I easily obliged. Why say no to a free ride?
I got on his back. “Driver, take me to the attack scene” I said chuckling and patted his head while he growled in a sinister way.
Everett was incredibly fast and I would have enjoyed the ride a lot if it weren’t for the tingles in my body or my wolf going crazy in my mind.
I felt very jumpy in the entire ride. I caught on to his fur tightly so that I wouldn’t shift because clearly my wolf has gone berserk.
He stopped where the attack had happened and I looked at the trees around me. I recognized them and wondered how old these trees are.
May be hundred plus? I don’t know.
I could literally see Ryker running with the statue and I knew where he was heading.
“Take me to the cliff” I told Everett and he ran towards the cliff. When we reached the cliff I got off his back and walked ahead.
I could see where Ryker was standing holding the statue in his hands and I felt nervous. I could also see where Sir Thomas fell on the ground.
I used to come to this cliff when I was a child but after growing up I’ve never been here because most of the wolves would dive from here into the ocean and I was scared they would throw me too.
If only I knew before what significance this place has.
The goddess herself had appeared here.
Sighing I closed my eyes for any help.
Glen and his evil smirking figure were popping in my head and it made me feel nervous. I could hear him laughing at me.
“That was just a beginning Wayne. You’ll come across these a lot”
“I’ll make you come to me”
His words were replaying in my mind.
What would he do now? The rogues he sent were killed by Everett, There was no danger for the temple, I’ve visited it myself, and the statue wasn’t har- The statue.
It clicked to me that he would always leave a statue in the attack scene. But he has already kept a piece when he attacked. Then why the other attack? Put two and two together Templar.
I rubbed the back of my neck continuously to think of something, anything that would help me.
I felt someone tugging my arms and looked Everett who had shifted back into his human form.
“What’s wrong?” he asked me softly.
Great! Forget all the thinking and stare at his naked body.
I closed my eyes and even covered them with my hands. “I told you not to shift” I whined.
He pulled my hands away from my eyes and placed a finger below my chin and made me look at him.
“What’s wrong?” he asked me again looking me dead in the eye. He was frowning at me and clearly his nakedness was the least of problems for him.
“I don’t know. There is ‘something’ and I can’t find what that ‘something’ is” I said pinching my lips together.
“What’s something?” he asked me.
“I’m not cent percent sure about it so I won’t tell you what that something is” I said looking away.
Don’t even have a sneak peek, I warned myself.
“Okay, so we have to find the ‘something’ but we don’t know what that ‘something’ is?” he asked me and I nodded at him. “How do you know there is something?”
My eyes widened at his question “I just know” I said lowering my gaze and immediately regretted it. Like I said earlier forget all the thinking and stare at a very naked Everett.
I shook my head a few times to wipe that perverted thought out of my mind.
“Do you know where that ‘something’ is?”
“uhhhhhh…… No” I said and looked away coz I had an eyeful. Corrupt Templar.
“But you know there is ‘something’?”
“Yes”
“Good”
“Did those rogues kept any piece of statue yesterday?” I asked him.
“No”
“But they attacked yesterday” I argued.
“They were about to but their planning failed because I was already near the bank when they arrived swimming” he said.
“Oh” I said calmly first. “What?” I shrieked later because a bulb flashed in my head. So, they weren’t expecting Everett and their plan whatever it was had flopped. This shows they had a plan.
“Thanks Rett” I said grinning and began to think again.
“You can kiss me instead of saying thanks” he said and I told him to shush by placing a finger on my lips.
So they swim and reach here so definitely they escape to by swimming. What was their plan?
They weren’t prepared to fight Rett in the bank. Maybe they wanted to attack in an appropriate place from where they could escape easily, like this cliff where they could jump off and go back the way they came or else they wanted to-”
“The cliff” I said loudly, Glen knows about the cliff so he ordered his bastards to come and attack closer to this cliff.
“The cliff?” Rett asked.
“They planned to attack here yesterday” I said looking around while he stared at me.
“Hmm. Possible because the last attack was also closer to the cliff” Rett said.
“But they didn’t keep anything. He always keeps something” I said.
“Who is he? And the ‘something’ is the statue piece?”
“The chief of those rogues. Yes and ask the other questions later and focus on the attack topic” i said.
“You mean to say he missed keeping a piece of statue yesterday?” he asked me after nodding.
“Yes. He has always kept a piece. It’s like he keeps a message for… us. However there was none after yesterday’s attack. They would have kept it if the attack would have happened here which didn’t”
“Or it can also be that they had kept a piece here and wanted to remove it”
“What? How did you think that?”
“I told you they weren’t prepared to attack. They were shocked to see me there and one pup among them said about taking something”
Everett was right. I had felt there was something even before yesterday’s attack, so it proved there was something and my intuition showed me what had happened when Ryker had stolen the statue and threw it before Sir Thomas saved it.
“So the piece is still here?” I asked and he shrugged “Where would he keep it?”
“The only safe place here is under the ground considering there is nothing else” Everett told me rolling his eyes heavenwards.
“You are smart” I said in astonishment.
“Common sense, however I would still prefer a kiss and as for the piece we have to dig the entire area because we don’t have a particular spot to search that tiny piece” he said smiling.
“I have the spot” I told him and he raised an eyebrow at me. I walked and stood in the spot where Ryker was holding the statue. If it would have been me I would have kept it here.
Again a light flashed, it is not me. It is Glen and he is a lunatic. He would have kept it…..
I looked at the spot where Sir Thomas fell to protect the statue.
He would have kept it where he wants the statue to be- In the ground and broken.
“It’s here” I said happily to Rett and blushed when I saw him naked.
Okay, Corrupt Templar. He has a fine body but that doesn’t mean you have to gawk at it again and again.
Looking around I started searching for a sharp stone that will help me dig the ground.
I was searching for a stone and heard sounds of panting. I turned to see Rett in his wolf form digging the ground.
I was so happy and so proud of him that I couldn’t wipe the huge grin off my face.
He stopped digging and turned to face me. I saw a black cloth which he had clutched in between his jaws.
We got the piece.
I walked towards him and took the cloth piece from him. I opened and gasped.
There was a piece of the statue, it was of the chin.
Only two pieces left the nose and lips.
Only two rogues left Felix and Glen.
“What piece is it?” Everett asked me.
“It’s a chin” I said and showed it to him and again realized his current stage.
“You still have to kiss me” he whispered taking a step towards me and I saw the smug look on his face.
“I am not going to kiss you while you are in your birthday suit” I said taking a step back and shaking my head continuously to prove the point.
“Does it bother you?” he asked huskily and I shivered.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. He was incredibly close and I could feel his heart beating near my chest.
Okay.
You can survive one kiss.
“Only once” I said and leaned forward to kiss him. The kiss began slow and sweetly but then it became more hard and demanding. I felt his tongue rub against mine.
When we pulled away to catch some air, he pressed his forehead against mine. His breathing was fanning my face and I could feel the Goosebumps all again.
“Only twice” I said and crashed my lips against his knowing all too well that it won’t stop at twice.
