A pleasant surprise
-Optimus's POV-
It was a boring day of going through repairs to the injuries from the latest fight. Optimus sighed, propping his head up as Ratchet worked on a massive gash down his back.
That gash had been from Megatron's own sharp fingers. During that split second of him performing the unspeakable act, Optimus noticed the look of terror on his face. He didn't want to hurt Optimus. But in the rush of battle, he wounded him by his own hand.
"He must've felt guilty..." Optimus thought, flinching when Ratchet touched a sensitive part.
He couldn't get Megatron off his mind. No matter what he tried, it always came back to Megatron. The datapads, his memory banks, everything contained something about Megatron.
Optimus was beginning to piece the puzzle together of why he was feeling this way and why Megatron was acting differently. His eons old friend had feelings towards him, but not just as friends. And he felt the same way. Of course, he couldn't put words in Megatron's mouth, but he thought that Megatron might be wanting to apologize to him.
"Optimus? You alright? I'm done with your repairs." Ratchet interrupted his train of thought.
Optimus merely glanced up and nodded, slowly standing up and stretching. "I'm fine. I'm going to get some fresh air."
"Okay, please be careful with that wound. I don't want it to reopen and get infected."
"I'll be careful, Ratchet." Optimus smiled, transforming and driving out of the exit tunnel.
Ratchet sighed, cleaning up his tools and putting them away.
-Jasper canyon, Eagle's peak-
Eagle's peak was the highest cliff in Jasper canyon. It's name came from the many eagles that made their nests there to raise their chicks. It also happened to be Optimus's favorite spot to relax and watch the sunset.
He pulled to a stop just before the edge of the cliff, transforming and sitting down on the edge. His legs dangled over the edge, making it seem like there was nothing beneath him. He leaned back and sighed in content, watching the sun slowly begin to sink below the horizon.
"Beautiful sunset, isn't it?"
He was startled by the sudden voice and jumped up, his battle blade drawn. He whipped around to face Megatron, who was simply standing there with his hands by his sides. "What are you doing here, Megatron?"
Megatron glanced at the sunset, the rays of the sun warming his face. "I'm enjoying the sunset, may I join you?" He noticed the long gash on Optimus's back and grimaced at the sight of his own work.
Optimus hesitated at first, unsure of what to do. His mortal enemy was just standing there, asking to watch the sunset with him. He slowly nodded, sitting back down and scooting over to make room for Megatron's large frame. "But..."
"Hush. It's a beautiful evening and I don't want to ruin it by rolling around in the dirt and fighting. Now sit back and relax." Megatron said smoothly, relaxing his shoulders and leaning back.
"Okay..." Optimus still couldn't believe what was happening. He was so close to Megatron that their armor brushed. He shivered at the rough surface of Megatron's armor touching his, not sure if he liked it or not. He'd never been this close to Megatron, unless being choked counted as close.
"Do you come here often?" Megatron asked, turning his head to look at Optimus.
Optimus gulped and froze up. Megatron looked so peaceful that he almost thought it was a trick. But Megatron was serious, so he decided to answer. "Yes, when I feel stressed or lonely.." he mumbled, gently swinging his legs back and forth.
"Mm, I do too. But only at night. The night is calmer than the day." Megatron rumbled, his bright red optics scanning the horizon.
"Megatron?"
Megatron looked at Optimus again and tilted his head. "Yes?"
"Do you feel... alone sometimes? Like a piece of your spark is missing?" Optimus asked, fearing Megatron's reply.
Megatron thought about it for a moment, tapping his finger against the rocky ground. Once he formulated an answer, he turned back towards Optimus. "Yes... all the time." He pursed his lips in nervousness. He didn't like revealing his feelings deep down, especially to someone like Optimus.
"Oh... I do too..." Optimus mumbled, glancing away.
Megatron paused, remembering that he still had that pendant that he found. "Optimus, do you remember when you gave me this?" He said softly, pulling out the pendant from his subspace.
Optimus looked at the pendant in Megatron's palm, his optics widening. "The pendant I gave you before your first match..." he whispered, reaching out to touch its smooth surface. "I thought you lost it."
Megatron chuckled, admiring the pendant. "I did for quite some time. I found it a few days ago while looking for something else. It brought back so many memories..." he sighed, looking at the setting sun. It was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a purplish glow upon the canyon.
"Did you think of me when you saw it?"
"Yes..." Megatron admitted, remembering back when Optimus was just a mech no taller than his chest. A small smile crawled across his face and he chuckled lightly. "I still remember you running around bragging to everyone about my victories in the Pits of Kaon..."
"I miss those times..." Optimus sighed, folding his hands in his lap.
Now that it was growing darker, Megatron's optics cast a red hue upon Optimus's frame. He closed his hand around the pendant again and stood up. "It's getting dark, we should return to our bases.."
"Okay.. I'll see you around I guess.." Optimus mumbled, giving a small wave towards Megatron.
"Mhm." Megatron grunted, slowly walking off into the night.
(Oh my Primus I think this ship is growing on me... I'M HOPPING ON BOARD PEOPLE!)
