Chapter 5; Stayin' Alive

Heeeelllllloooooo!

Song was Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees (love this song)

Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya first met when they were still very young. Because of them living close by, they had gone to not only the same elementary school but also junior high. Their moms, Mitsuki Bakugou and Inko Midoriya, quickly became friends, pushing the two young boys together, so Bakugou and Deku grew quite close as well.

In short, Deku looked up to Bakugou. He always had, and was sure he always would. For as long as he could remember he thought that Bakugou was so cool and strong, and the boy was overwhelmed by joy to have ever been considered a friend. Unfortunately their friendship didn't last that long.

On a sunny, clear skied day, Bakugou had been exploring with his friends, including Deku. When he had suddenly slipped and fell off of the log his old friend group was walking across. The young boy landed with a splash in the river. He wasn't seriously hurt, of course. The fading pain in his lower body and hands signaled that he would have a few good bruises in the morning, but again nothing serious. Despite the fact that he was hurting and swallowing in a tempt to make the tears disappear, he laughed at himself. He wanted to act strong, he wanted to show he wasn't hurt, so he laughed and tried his hardest to ignore the once burning pain, knowing that it would soon come to a stop. And you couldn't blame Bakugou, who was at the time currently a four and a half year old kid, for feeling like crying.

Bakugou continued sitting down in the river, waiting for the pain to subside even just a little bit more when he heard, "Oh my gosh Kaccahan are okay!? That looked like it hurt!"

With wide eyes Bakugou snapped his head up to face the small boy in front of him. Deku had extended his hand to him incase he needed it. Despite his kind gesture, Bakugou just stared at it in surprise. After all why would the great Katsuki Bakugou need help from a useless nobody?

~~~
Bakugou had always found Deku annoying and weak. But he was able to tolerate him. But because of Deku's caring personality, and later when they found out he was quirkless, Bakugou started to loath him. This inspired him to pick on Deku for being a weak useless nobody. And so their friendship quickly dissolved and became truly one-sided.
Bakugou never knew why Deku wanted to be his friend. In fact he still didn't know why. After all hadn't I made it clear that wasn't going to happen? Bakugou thought. He had bullied him, ignored him, hurt him, but no matter what Bakugou did he couldn't shake the kind hearted boy. Not completely. Finally by Junior High Bakugou had succeeded in making Deku afraid of him. Putting him in his place, as Bakugou had referred it. And because of this Deku always tried his hardest to avoid the explosion boy.
Looking back on it now, Bakugou could see just how much of a little shit he had been. Thinking about how he hurt Deku now caused him pain instead of pride. Memories, tons of them flashed into Bakugou's head. All the times he made Deku cry, all the times he beat him or made him bleed. The times he would laugh his ass off as Deku ran home to the safety of his home and family.
Why? Why did I do such awful things? Bakugou's heart raced. He could feel tears threatened to fall. How does he like me? After everything I did to him he still feels this way towards me?  Bakugou had been so caught up with his new found disease that he hadn't had too much time to process this information. But no matter how much Bakugou tried to make sense of his situation it didn't work. Then a certain red haired friends words popped into Bakugou's mind. "Maybe without realizing it, or maybe you just didn't accept it, you had decided you didn't hate him anymore. And Midoriya had forgiven you for everything you did." Could that really be true? Had he forgiven me? How could that be?  Bakugou just couldn't understand how that was possible. How could Deku have ever forgiven him for all the awful things he did?
He didn't know, but now all of a sudden he had these strange foreign and... warm feelings that he couldn't do anything about. He would just have to stomach it and keep coughing them up. Bakugou sighed a long sigh, full of frustration and defeat as he felt the horrible scratchy feeling rise in his throat again. This time when he leaned over to cough up more petals they came out along with thorns, leaves, more blood, and he became extremely dizzy. And with with the sight in front of him and the lack of air he was managing to get, Bakugou realized just how deadly this disease was becoming.
After he caught his breath and sat back up he laid down, so he was looking at the white ceiling. Then his mind decided to show him a different memory. Not of his child hood or of bullying a poor frightened Deku but of something worse. The memory of Deku when he collapsed onto the cement after loosing too much blood.
The energy and life had been sucked out of Deku's normally sparkling and lively eyes. He was pale, and pain was the only emotion he showed. His teeth clenched together fighting the urge to scream. His eyes were full of tears and his cheeks had become wet. But that had lasted only a few seconds because it didn't take long for the pain to become too much to bare and, with the lack of blood, he turned lifeless. He stopped moving except the slight lift and fall of his chest. You could tell he was just barely alive.
Bakugou couldn't help but remember how he just stood there in shock and worry. And he felt so guilty thinking about how useless he was. He didn't run over to Deku like Todoroki did, he just continued to examined the green boy, burning the scaring image further into his brain. He remembered only watching in disgust as a dark red pool of blood covered the ground around Deku. He watched it grow slightly as every second passed. He remembered watching him continue to struggle breathing. Each breath a new challenge.
He continued to remember the sound of sirens, and the flashing lights surrounding the scene. People ran to Deku's side doing everything in their power to keep him from slipping away. The sound was almost completely drowned out by Bakugou's racing heart.
The hero in training only snapped out of his faze when his fellow classmates asked him if he was accompanying them to the hospital. He thought about it, he had his pride to think about, but he also wasn't sure if he could bare to look at Deku so lifeless again. So after a moment of hesitation, he eventually agreed to it.
And so an hour later, Bakugou sat, mentally preparing himself silently in the waiting room. Everyone had been crying, even Todoroki and he barely showed any emotion.
Parents, teachers, and the rest of the 1-A students soon arrived, and Bakugou was forced to go to the bathroom to pull himself together. But when he walked out his eyes were still red. He felt ashamed and embarrassed for crying over his enemy so he tried his best to hide his puffy eyes but to no avail. Luckily everyone brushed it aside, thinking it to be normal for the circumstances. Of course there were the few who's eyes widened in realization and surprise at the unfamiliar sight, but there was no judgement. Bakugou made his way back to his seat. Immediately he started shaking his leg impatiently and covered his face with his hands.
A few hours a doctor came in. "I assume your all here for Izuku Midoriya. Am I right?" They all nodded. "He was stabilized, fortunately. But he's in a coma." The doctor paused letting the information sink in. He put away the small clip board he was carrying, moving it to the surface of a desk. After the short moment he continued speaking. "I suppose a few of you can come in." He tried to smile but it didn't even come close to reaching his eyes.
With that everyone shuffled into the small room. They all stared at Deku's weak and fragile body. Their eyes were attracted to the tubes. Some had gasped, some cried harder, and everyone else just kept staring not sure how to deal. It was so depressing, their first visit. After all their beloved Izuku Midoriya was in a coma. And barely hanging onto his life.
It had been a pretty slow following week. People visited Deku a lot. And it helped that they had a week off of school. But the most exciting thing that happened was that they had moved into dorms. And a result of this and Deku's accident was that they all had quite a lot of free time.
Meanwhile, Bakugou never went to visit Deku with the group again. He would only go alone, and even that was rare. Most of the time he would just sit in his new dorm room. People would say that he was pretty unsocial before, but now it was a rare sight to just see him outside of his room. He only left it when he was hungry. And when he did he refused to talk to anyone he saw. It became common for people to receive his death glare mainly as a reminder to leave him alone.
After a lazy uneventful week, Bakugou was forced to return back to school, and hated it even more than usual. He no longer paid attention, his enthusiasm was gone. To put it simply he no longer gave a fuck. It used to confuse him why his spirit was gone. But he knew now.
~~~

Another week had gone by in a blur. Bakugou's hanahaki had gotten much worse and was to the point where he was coughing up small, but still whole flowers. Along with that, he was no longer dizzy, and instead could feel himself suffocating whenever he was about to cough up more green flowers. He had even forced himself to take a day off when it was especially bad. But still not a soul knew of his condition.

~~~
The ash blonde had just gotten back from a particularly long day at school, and was entering his bedroom when Inko called.
"Katsuki!" Cheerfulness and a new found energy was evident in her voice, catching Bakugou by surprise. The voice sounded so comforting and soothing that it made Bakugou feel a spark of hope, as he knew she was calling about Deku. But he still only grumbled in response, due to the fact that he had a major head ache. Inko continued saying the words Bakugou had wanted to hear for quite a while now, "Izuku woke up today!"
I hope u like! Kinda a boring chapter... :(
