Chapter 8- The Water Fountain
"She's still with Prince KiHyun?" Jungkook asks the guard who stands by the closed entrance of Princess Y/N's study room.
"Yes, your Highness," the guard responds with a sharp nod of his head.
The prince takes a deep inhale as he rests his hands on his waist before he turns to face Jimin who had accompanied him in the search of his sister.
"I guess she's prohibited anyone from entering?" he turns back to the soldier annoyance written all over his face after the soldier answers positively to his question, "Great," he sighs before clenching his jaw.
"Is there a reason that you're annoyed?" Jimin asks the prince.
"I'm kind of alarmed that a marriage proposal popped out of nowhere to my sister and that she's spent the past two days in that room with the potential husband when she's made it pretty clear that she has no intentions of marriage," Jungkook rants pursing his lips in thought before he freezes and his eyes turn wide,
"Could she have killed him?" his wide-open eyes lift upward and lock with Jimin's who seem to express confusion.
Would she actually kill a person?
"You have her capable of that?" Jimin questions with a soft voice.
"No, she wouldn't," Jungkook relaxes and Jimin rolls his eyes at the young Prince, "What if she left?" his eyes go wide again but Jimin knows better than to believe him this time.
Just as Jungkook is ready to turn his body around and barge in his sisters' study room, craving for her attention, the doors open and a tired Y/N walks out followed by an equally- if not more- tired Prince KiHyun; Both of them with messed up hair and dark circles under their eyes. Each being proof that they haven't slept well for the past two nights and clearly not for enjoyable reasons.
Jimin raises his left eyebrow with a tiny tilt of his head to the left, his curiosity triggered at the state of the two people in front of him.
"What's...," Jungkook trails off surprised at the sight before him that rejects the theories he'd come up with, "Wrong with you two?"
"Oh, the things I do to stay single," Y/N quietly sighs with a hint of drama in her voice as she walks past her brother and Jimin who she hasn't acknowledged the presence of.
"Y/N?" Jungkook calls out from behind her but she waves him off.
"I'm going to sleep for three days don't disturb me," she tells him before she turns on a hallway to head for her chambers.
"Would you like to explain what's going on, Prince KiHyun?" Jungkook turns to the other sleepless after his sister disappears.
KiHyun takes a deep breath in trying to use up whatever energy there's left in him to form sentences that will make sense to his audience, " We were in there," he lazily points to the study room, "Doing research and everything to prove a marriage between me and Princes Y/N will not be beneficial for my Kingdom or yours."
KiHyun looks back and forth from Jimin to Jungkook awaiting for their responses. Jimin nods his head in acknowledgment of the matters whereas Jungkook looks at him confused.
"How...?" the young prince begins and tilts his head, "Are you going to do that?"
"I'm afraid I'm in no position to explain at the moment," KiHyun responds while he fixes his wrinkled suit, "If you excuse me, I have a lot of sleep to catch up on," with that he bows to both men and leaves. He too, like the princess, craving for the soft feeling of the satin sheets against his skin.
"It's only ten in the evening," Jungkook mutters as he puts his hands in the pockets of his suit and pouts his lower lip.
"Don't you have anything to do, your Highness?" Jimin looks at him with a soft smile.
"My evening was free of responsibilities today, you see," Jungkook sighs, the feeling of boredom creeping up on him already, "Ah, I'll find something to occupy my self with, don't worry. Thank you for accompanying me, Jimin."
"My honor," Jimin fakes a smile, the squeamishness drowning him in endless waters as he utters those words.
Jungkook gives him a polite nod before he too leaves heading towards the castle's library to read a book in favor of occupying himself until he calls it a night.
Jimin releases a breath he's been holding without realizing.
This Is harder than I thought
He clenches his jaw as he stares at Jungkook's back who only gets further and further away from him with every step. Anger consumes him as he has been in the castle for long enough yet he hasn't managed to find any information regarding Taehyung's whereabouts or any of the other supernatural creatures that have been captured by the human race.
But of course, it's not like they would have a map of the bases drawn across the hallway walls
He chuckles to himself as he looks at the beautiful marble walls while his feet lead him outside of the castle and to the royal garden.
Having entered the garden he walks in the small maze there seems to have been made. He's not sure why he concluded on entering the maze. There are a million better things he could do than just try to find the other exit of the structure. When he came across it a familiar force- he could not find himself recognizing- pulled him towards in there.
The more he walks deeper in the maze the more the force pulls him in. The more familiar the unidentified feeling that gathers in the pit of his stomach gets.
"Oh," he gasps softly once he reaches the very center of the maze. It is not very large and only one path leads to it. The one Jimin has taken.
His eyes fall upon a small but gorgeous fountain that he is sure he has seen before.
It can't be...
His legs are frozen, he can't find himself walk closer to it. Memories flood his mind as he looks at every possible detail. That beautiful small fountain with the small basin and the baby angel on top of it holding its bow and arrow as water ejects out of it. That exact one he has seen on the one and only time his grandfather took him to the destroyed castle the royal family was hosted under for all the eons the supernatural creatures had control of their land.
How is this possible?
The more he looks at the fountain the more he matches it with the one back *home*. It's ironic since that home never really was a home to him.
They couldn't have transferred it here, could they?
The first thing that pops in his mind as a logical explanation clearly infuriates him and he clenches his fist leaving bloody crescent moons on the skin of his palm that start healing in no time.
How can they? These filthy excuses of beings. First, they bring war among their people and his own, then they magically win and take away mostly all there is left of his kind- barely leaving any to reproduce- to keep it captive, torture it for information and then kill it when it's useless? And now what? They take important pieces of his kingdom's history and display them as some type of entertainment for their own satisfaction?
I bet none of them has ever been interested to explore this maze,
He sighs and sadness takes over him. He looks up at the dark sky and suddenly all the anger disappears and sadness takes over him.
Maybe I shouldn't have come.
Maybe I should have listened to father and stayed home.
Maybe I should have insisted more to convince Taehyung to stay.
He presses his lips into a thin line when the image of his best friend comes to mind; He's bidding the prince goodbye, excited to leave for his super important and secret mission. The Prince begs him one more time to wait another day because he has a bad feeling. His long-haired friend just laughs and playfully pushes him away from the hug telling him it's just the cloudy weather making him feel this way. The prince responds with a bitter laugh and hangs his arms by his sides as he lets his friend go,
"I hope you're okay, Taehyung," The prince mutters to himself as he now averts his eyes from the night sky and looks down as he wipes a single tear that dared escape him, "I promise I'll come to find you."
Now the faith in himself restored he is ready to start brainstorming on ways to somehow get even the tiniest of a hint as to where Taehyung could be. In the midst of the process, however, a voice calls out him,
"Jimin?"
He knows to whom this voice belongs to, how could he not? He could not forget the voice of the ever so confusing- to him- princess who looks exactly like the one who brought destruction to his kingdom.
Jimin turns around to look at the young female in a comfortable and very un-princess-like attire; black sweatpants and a black hoody, "Princess Y/N," he greets her with a small bow of his head after taking his hands out of the pockets, "I thought you wanted to sleep for three days straight what are you doing here?" he softly asks with a tiny cock of his head to the left.
Y/N takes a deep breath as he puts her hands in her hoodie's pocket and walks closer to him, "I can't sleep and when that happens I take a walk in the garden. Usually, I end up in this maze."
Jimin huffs surprised to hear that someone actually gives purpose to the maze brought from his home and not just use it as a charm in the collection of their conquers.
"Do you know the story of this maze?" The princess asks him with a quirked eyebrow as she takes a couple of steps to stand next to him facing the fountain.
"I'm afraid not," Jimin states believing that he's feeding her lies when in reality, he truly doesn't know the story behind the maze and the fountain specifically.
"Not many do actually," Y/N sighs in disappointment, "Just me and whoever has read my grandmother's diary."
"What?" Jimin snaps his head to look at her quizzically. Her words don't make any sense to him.
"Before the war," she starts explaining, "The King of the B.T.S. Kingdom had offered this maze as a gift for the Queen, my grandmother, if I am correct there should be an exactly identical one at their castle."
Jimin's jaw seems to lose the ability to function properly and it's hanging with his lips forming an 'O'.
"W-why would they offer a gift?" he asks in genuine curiosity. All this time he's been told about the bad things but in reality, he never knew or wondered to ask about how things were before the war begun.
"If you ask someone from the castle they will tell you it was a peace offering for negotiation to avoid the war," Y/N tells him and Jimin nods his head remaining silent because clearly the princess isn't done talking, "But my Queen Y/N the First mentions a completely different reason in her diary," she makes a small pause to take a deep breath in, "One I'm afraid I do not remember."
"What do you mean?" Jimin looks at her quizzically, can't she just read the diary again?
The Princess presses her lips against each other almost making them disappear before she turns her head to look, "I read her diary when I was eight. I accidentally found it in a weird room one day and when a staff member found out they took it away from me. I haven't seen it since."
"I see," Jimin averts his gaze towards the floor before an idea comes to his mind, "And you trust your memory that much?"
"With other events that have taken place and facts I've discovered I have enough proof to support my opinion in several matters," she raises an eyebrow while looking at him strictly, remembering that he has the habit of doubting her beliefs.
"Would you be interested in filling me in then?" Jimin raises an eyebrow as he gives her a small side smile.
The princess remains silent for a moment as she looks at Jimin up and down before she makes eye contact with him,
"I don't even know who you are," a tiny smile ghosts on her lips, "why would I trust you with such information?"
The left corner of Jimin's mouth raises at her response, "Rest well, your Highness," he tells her after she has taken the first step to walk away towards the other exit of the maze's center- without a respectful bow.
"You too, Jimin," she responds clearly not phased by his lack morals.
The action has Jimin chuckle at her uniqueness and he turns to look at the fountain again.
Oh but, Princess Y/N the Second, Your Highness, you will fill me in, yet you still won't know who I am.
