The Mirror

As I walk out of the revolving doors, I take a deep breath of fresh air, well, as fresh as air can get in a city. I started on my journey home. I could walk there, since I live in an apartment building just a few blocks from where I worked.

The breeze felt cool against my face as it gently blew over my tight bun. The concrete was smooth and firm underneath my black pumps. A stronger gust of wind blew, and I adjusted my blazer. Fall was just around the corner.

Bells in a distant church steeple chimed 4 times. I sighed, taking in the sounds of the city; cars driving past, sparrows chirping, a person grunting... hold on. As I turned around, a dark figure clamped a hand to my mouth, muffling my screams, and shoved me into an alley.

"Give me all your valuables," the figure said in a deep, raspy voice. I realized it was a man dressed head to toe in black, wearing a ski mask.

Typical, I thought, internally scoffing.

"Now!" he growled with more force, pinning my shoulders to the wall behind me.

I gulped when I saw a gun at his waist and handed him my purse that I was tightly gripping only a few moments ago.

He let me go, and I fell to the ground and groaned. There goes my butt-bone... I thought, glaring at him. If only looks could kill...

As he continued to rummage through my belongings, I took the opportunity to take out my phone from an inside pocket in my blazer. Just a few numbers: 9, 1-

"Hey!" I exclaimed as he grabbed my phone right from my hands.

"There'll be none of that!" he said, throwing it to the ground and crushing it beneath his foot.

"No!" I scurried to the broken remains of my device. Just then, I heard a click. Slowly, I looked up, knowing that what I was going to see was something I wouldn't like.

He held his gun and aimed it right at my head. "I don't need you telling of me to the media."

Well, this is it. Goodbye, world. I'm going to die to the hands of some cliché idiot in a black ski mask.

I screwed my eyes shut, waiting for the impact, but instead heard grunts and swears and punches being thrown. I risked a peek, and there, in all his crime-fighting glory, was the Blue Shadow. The Blue Shadow. Our city's super hero.

Holy-molly.

He was dressed in a suit as dark as the midnight sky, a mask of the same color covering his entire face. A black cape adorned his shoulders.

I watched in awe as he dodged every attack with swift and precise movements, using a grace I couldn't describe.

The man in black swooped down for a kick, but the Blue Shadow jumped up and started running on the alley wall. The criminal widened his eyes with shock, and using this surprise to his advantage, Blue Shadow landed on top of him, leaving the man in black on the ground, motionless.

He turned back to me and handed me my purse. My eyes never left his hidden face. He looked up, and saw my shocked expression, tilting his head to the side as if he didn't know why I was so bewildered. I shook my head quickly, snapping myself out of my daze. He offered me his hand and helped me up. We shook hands, but I saw something stirring in my peripheral vision.

I looked over his shoulder and shrieked when I saw the baddie back on his feet, gun in hand. Blue Shadow turned around, but it was too late. In just a matter of seconds, the criminal had him pinned to the wall, his free hand around his neck. I watched the super hero struggle under his grip, and I realized he was choking him! To make things worse, I saw the man in black slowly raise is gun towards Blue Shadow's head.

I started to panic, not knowing what to do. It can't end like this! I thought to myself. Then, it hit me. I rummaged around my bag, looking for my weapon of choice... ah-ha! My hand-mirror!

I flipped it open and tried to angle it just right so that the sun's rays bounced off of it and into my target: the criminals eyes. He grunted  in pain and rubbed his eyes, letting go of the the hero, and his gun. I smirked. Big mistake.

Blue Shadow quickly threw punches at the man in black, adding a few extra ones even when he was already on the ground, just to make sure there wasn't going to be a repeat of last time. After fishing out a few of my necklaces from the baddie's pockets and handing them back to me - all while rubbing is neck, mind you - he pushed a small button on his wrist I never noticed before.

I turned around to put the necklaces back in my purse, and when I turned around again to ask about his button, he was already gone without saying a single word. The police came within a few minutes, even though I never called them. As I walked home, I thought about how I was going to tell this story to my friends.

AN: Hey guys! So I didn't keep my promise and added this before I hit 5 votes on my first part because I really needed something to do... and because I really, really, really, really wanted to write this. This is my first time writing something with action scenes, so give me some advice or tell me what you think!

Again, if you want me to continue this book, VOTE because if you show no sign in liking it, I'll find no reason to keep going with it.

Thanks for reading! :)
