Chapter 20 - Greensafe

After I wake up, I sit around for a few mintues, before Razor comes in again, a slight frown on his face. Once he notices me awake, though, he smiles, though I know it's forced.

"You're awake. Are you doing okay? We made sure that we could heal you all to the best of Lilith's abilities," he tells me, going over to sit on the stool still by my bedside.

"Who's Lilith?"

"Oh, she's our healer. She's seventeen, so her skills aren't fully developed, as well as Jade's. Most of us here are quite young. The oldest here is twenty-nine."

I nod. We both fall into an awkward silence, before we hear a soft groan from the left.

"What the hell?" Rosaline mutters, groaning again.

"You're awake!" I cry, sitting up.

She rubs her head, closing and opening her eyes. "Yeah."

Her face holds confusion, so I know I should explain. I'm about to, when I hear Kano stirring as well.

"Where the hell are we?" He demands, more alert than Rosaline is.

"We're safe. This is a place for Specials!" I explain.

Kano looks over at me, skepticism written all over his face. Then, he catches sight of Razor next to me. He frowns. "Who's that?"

Razor grins, standing up and going over to each of them, shaking their hands lightly and telling his name.

"How did we end up here, then?" Kano questions.

"We had to make you crash. It was the only way for you avoid getting caught. A whole group of guards and cars were up ahead of you. We saw them, and stopped you from driving straight into it. We meant for your crash to be lighter and not harm you all so badly, but our Specials on the job are too young to fully control their abilities yet. Sorry."

The looks on Kano's and Rosaline's faces tell me their thoughts. We were followed again. But how? I got rid of the patch!

"How did they find us, though? We got rid of his patch, and we kept our pace fast and covered up our tracks. How the hell did they find us?" Rosaline demands.

Her eyes are shut tight, and I can tell she's analyzing what could've happened. She must be trying to read everyone in the room, which isn't extremely helpful; Kano and I don't know, and Razor is safe enough at least that we know he didn't do anything. After all, if he were dangerous, would he have healed us and brought us here? Away from the government?

"Ryan's bag. Government-issued. Must've gotten it from his aide. The bag had a tracker implanted in it, like all government-issued supplies. You're lucky you didn't have chips on you; we would've had to dig into your neck and pull them out," Razor explains.

I stiffen. It's my fault again. I brought the bag. I lead them to us. Why? Why am I so useless? I'm nothing but a burden! I want to be useful! I want to help, not cause harm to my friends!

"I'm so sor-" I start, but Rosaline cuts me off.

"Did you get rid of it?"

Razor nods. "Yeah, we left it with the car, along with a few battered dummies to make a temporary distraction for them. It's not like they would find us anyways, but it's better to be safe than sorry."

Rosaline nods. I stare at them both, confused. Why aren't Kano and Rosaline blaming me? Why aren't they giving me dirty looks, and telling me I'm nothing but a liability?

"Look, Ryan, it wasn't your fault, okay? You didn't know. If anything, you can blame your aide for leaving the bag around for you to find. You were just escaping," Rosaline suddenly says to me, looking me dead in the eyes.

I gulp, nodding. It feels awful to be putting the blame on someone dead, but it's better than letting my brain tear me apart with poisonous thoughts.

"Okay!" Razor suddenly booms, clapping his hands together. "Let's get you all out of here and onto the main base."

"Main base...?" I ask.

"Yup. Greensafe."

Razor gets up, walking over to the door, before turning back towards us. "You coming or not?"

I leap out of the bed, feeling my head spin a bit. It goes away after a second, and I follow him out the door, Kano and Rosaline not too far behind.

"So, allow me to explain," he begins, walking down the hallway.

The walls are all the same color as the room we were in, as well as the floor. A wooden door appears every so often, a small window in each door with a small curtain to cover it. He walks us to a door, and when he opens it, we're blinded by light.

I squint my eyes, covering them in shade with a hand. When my eyesight adjusts, I marvel at the whole place. A gravel pathway snakes down a small hill to a sprawled out set of buildings.

One building looked like a large cabin, with two stories. Right next to it, what looked to be an open dining area connected to a smaller building could be seen. On the other side of both these buildings, were much smaller cabins, about ten in total. Each building has a gravel pathway leading up to it as well.

Past that, looked to be a medium-sized field - strangely riddled with what looked to be holes - then past that, a huge and dense forest. Surrounding everything, is in fact, forest and trees, with small platforms in taller trees connected to each other; most likely for sentries.

People walk around the whole place, some in the fields, coming out of buildings, and walking along the platforms in the trees.

"Woah, this place is so-" I begin, but get cut off - again - by Rosaline.

"Fucking awesome," she breathes.

Razor laughs, walking down the gravel pathway. We pass the dining area, a few people there watching us pass.

"Razor!" Someone screams, before a small blur latches tackles him to the ground.

"Jade! What did we say about tackling people?" Razor says, chuckling a bit.

"Sorry."

Now I can make out a small and lean girl with pixie-cut brown hair and sparkling green eyes. She catches me looking, and looks down.

"Um," she starts, looking up at Kano, Rosaline, and I. "I'm really sorry for almost killing you all. My powers aren't fully developed yet, at least that's what Razor says."

"Uh, it's fine. Razor explained to us why you did it," Rosaline says, putting on a smile.

Jade grins, hopping off Razor to stand on her own. "So, what do you guys do?" She asks.

"Well, I'm an analyzer, Kano over there manipulates fire, and Ryan here is a wither," Rosaline explains, pointing at each of us in turn.

"A wither? Cool! We don't have any of those yet!" Jade exclaims.

"Jade, why don't you go get Lilith?" Razor suddenly suggests.

Jade pouts, before darting off.

"Sorry about that," Razor says, chuckling. "She's our little ball of energy. She one of the youngest here, though there are some who are even younger."

"How old is she?" I ask.

"Fourteen."

Fourteen? I didn't know about my ability until just a month ago or so. And I didn't know that I'm called a wither. I don't even know what my own ability really is. These people around me know so much more than I do. How will I ever be useful?

"So, to our left is the dining area, with a kitchen connected to it in the back," Razor begins, gesturing to the place as he starts to walk again.

"Right next to it is the main building. That's where meetings are held, and where a few people sleep, including me, Jade, and Lilith.

"The smaller cabins to our right are the housing for everyone else. They're supposed to house about eight people, but right now we only have half of them filled."

He walks us over to the center of everything, where huge fire pit sits. Surrounding it are a few benches. He points to the open field past it. "Over there is our practicing range, where we train to use our abilities, and the forest beyond that we use for multiple things. Past that is a small clearing with a river going through it. We get our water and swim there."

Wait, training? Training for what? Now that I think about it, what are they doing here? They seem to have some kind of camp here, but why would they practice using their abilities? What for?

He turns back to us grinning. "Any questions?"

"What are you training for?" Rosaline demands, beating me to it.

Razor grins wider. "Well, how else will we prepare for when we go on missions?"

"Missions?" Kano asks this time.

"Well of course."

He gestures around us, still grinning. "This is Greensafe, the main base of operations for our purpose."

"'Our purpose'?" I ask.

Razor's grin lessens, until it's a strange combination between a smile and smirk. "Welcome to the resistance."

So, uh, it's been a while, huh? I decided to just post the "latest" chapters I have written for this.

Aha...aha...aha, okay, so, to help myself visualize Greensafe (Best original name EVER btw), I drew a SUPER rough draft/outline thingie. It got the point across to myself so I guess it's good enough.

BUT

Here it is! It sucks, but hey, it's a visual, and I like visuals. It's also not completely thorough, and my copy will be added on to. This is just so you can get the picture! :)
