Part Forty One
Nine months pregnant, and Eliza felt like an elephant. She still hadn't made up with Angelica, yet, that was the least of her problems. He stomach was bigger than a watermelon, so now she waddled everywhere. That's right, waddle, not walk, waddle, that's when she was allowed to walk that is. She was so uncomfortable all the time, and wish this baby would hurry up and get out of her already.
"Alexander, I can go to work, I'll be fine." She said as she sat up on their current bed.
"Eliza the doctors said you need to be careful."
"I'm always careful." Eliza groaned.
"Good, you have to be." He told her, causing her groan once again.
"You are so annoying, I swear to god."
"Hey now, don't be rude to god, god didn't do anything."
She rolled her eyes, sticking her tongue out at him, it had become common for her to do this now wherever she was annoyed with him, but, didn't know what to say.
"Baby, I'm just trying to keep you safe."
"You're trying to keep your child safe." She corrected, glaring at her stomach.
He sighed sitting next to her. "I'm trying to keep you both safe, but, you are the priority." He clarified gently pulling the heavily pregnant woman into his arms. "You will always be my priority." He whispered pressing a kiss to her temple.
"I'm just so bored, I hate having to be on bed rest." She complained, his hands placing themselves on her belly. "It's the most annoying thing ever."
"Yeah, I know..." he agreed, rubbing soft circles on his girlfriends stomach as she she leaned into his touch.
"You really don't.." She hummed causing him to chuckle softly.
"Nevertheless, I feel empathy for you my sweet girl."
"Don't leave Alex, please, tell Mr. Washington that your pregnant girlfriend takes priority." She said hold his arms tightly as if she were afraid to let go.
"How about this, I'll go down for a couple of hours, because I do need to work a little bit, and I'll be right back up."
"I thought I was priority."
"You are, and being able to provide for you is also important too, so I do need to work."
"Except for you don't need to provide for me, I have money." She pointed out, but, Alexander shook his head.
"Your dad has money, and I will not take a cent from that man." He said, his voice suddenly become stern. "I want us to build something together, your dad already thinks so little of me, I don't need to give another reason to hate me."
"He doesn't hate you."
"He hates me, and I'm going prove him wrong and you right."
"Prove me right?" She questioned as she glanced back him.
"You believe in me, you think I'm going to great things one day, so I'm going to prove you right, make you proud of me."
"Alexander, I will always be proud of you."
Alexander smiled. "Still, I should go to work for a few hours, maybe help His Excellency win his campaign. Then I'll be right back and will succumb to your every whim."
She would sigh, knowing there was no use in argues with him about it. "Alright, just don't take too long."
"I'll try not to.."
And just like that Eliza was alone, and bored as hell. It didn't take that long when you've been forced to stay in bed for three days in a row, she hated it. She channel surfed for about half an hour or so, checking the time ever few minutes hoping and wishing time would move faster so Alexander would come back. Now it wasn't that she was dependent on him, but, when you're not allowed out of bed and your not talking to your sister, they're aren't many other options. Of course there was Peggy but she'd ended up going to Washington to prepare for election night, so she wasn't even with them.
She spent a few more minutes along with her thoughts when she heard:
"Eliza..?" She could tell immediately it was Angelica.
"Go away please."
"I'm not going away, you've been ignoring me for weeks now, and I can't wait another two weeks before you decide to speak to me."
"Well I don't have anything to say to you."
"I don't understand why your so mad at me, I didn't do anything wrong."
"Right, sure."
"Eliza what the fuck? I was just trying to give you some advice and then you completely ice me out for no reason!"
"You think you'd be a better girlfriend for him."
"What?"
"You act like you and him would be better together, you like I'm too naive for him or I don't understand him like you do."
"Well I do-"
"No, you don't Angelica. I get that guys always choose you over me, I get that I'm not as pretty as you are or as smart and fun or flirty.. but the one time the guy I like, wants me instead of you, you can't take it."
"Eliza.."
"I know your not used to it, neither am I... but instead of trying to sabotage my relationship, I'd appreciate some support from you."
"Elizabeth, I will always support you."
"When it's convenient for you, Yeah, but when I'm with the guy you wanna fuck then you don't care what I want."
"Is that really how I make you feel...?"
"Yes, and it hurts." She said, starting to tear up despite herself. "It makes me feel useless and terrible... and then I get scared that Alexander made a terrible decision being with me and that he really wants you instead..." the pregnant woman sobbed causing her sisters heart to break a little.
"I didn't mean to.. Eliza, you couldn't possibly think that.."
"Why not? That's what you think."
Angelica sat down on the bed next to Eliza. "I don't think that... I'm still not completely over him, Yeah... but I see the way her looks at you, it's like you're the brightest thing in the room and the rest of the world is just shadows... he never looked at me like that."
"Really..?"
"Really." Angelica repeated. "I just, sometimes I get annoyed that I wasted my time with a guy who's in love with my sister... I feel like I have to justify that time, that it actually mattered, but, you wanna know the truth..?"
"What?"
"It didn't matter, not to him anyways... I don't think any time he spends without you matters to that guy."
Eliza rolled her eyes. "Oh that's ridiculous."
"Yes, ridiculous, yet also very true."
She rolled her eyes again.
"I'm sorry Eliza... I sucked for making you feel that way.. but I can't loose you, and I can't leave knowing your mad at me,"
"You're leaving?" Eliza asked looking at her older sister in complete surprise.
"Yeah, I think I tried being Alexander's friend way too fast, I need time away, to find my head again."
"Oh... but you'll be in Washington for election night?" She asked hopefully.
"Of course I will be, you'll see me soon, don't worry..."
"Okay..." She said with a small frown. "I forgive you by the way... and I'm sorry... for being mad at you for so long..."
"It's fine Lizzy, I'm just glad you don't hate me..."
"I could never."
