Chapter Fourteen

(I suggest watching and listening to the video for this chapter before reading or as you read. It plays a crucial part. Thanks. Continue to read now. )

Susanna's POV

Praise God, I'm feeling so much better. It's been barely been a few weeks now since my incident with nearly going blind, and at my last check up the doctor was amazed at how quickly I am healing. He called it a miracle, and said I could go back to being active again, just to be careful.

There is one definite advantage to having my fiancée here where I grew up. I get to show him some of my world. I was at the cabin door early this morning, well... early-ish. I didn't want to make him too much of a grumpy gus. "Wake up, Stamper!" I shouted, as I banged my fist against the door.

"Morning, beautiful!" I hear behind me, making me jump straight against the full, mind you, rain barrel on the end of the porch. I nearly fall in but the voice's owner captures me in his arms. It just so happens to be Joey.

"Your up early." I say surprised, and a bit winded from my clumsy encounter... okay and his eyes. We decided not to kiss again (our first together was when we got engaged) until our wedding. But a part of me is soooo wanting to reconsider that right now.

Joey hugs me, and then pulls away, but not releasing my hand. The look in his eyes tells me he is dealing with this same struggle. He sneaks a glance, and whispers so quiet I can barely hear. "It'll be worth it."

I nod, and we head towards my parents house. "Ready for some breakfast?" I say clearing my throat. This is the most random moment to have this thought, but the devil creeped right in just now and was making me think of maybe a perfect everywhere soprano was what Joey wanted. Not a far from model looking, bespectacled, alto girl. I start rebuking the devil in Jesus' name in my mind, and Joey notices the change on my face.

We are nearly to the house now, but Joey stops and we sit by the edge of the fish pond. He takes the hand that isn't locked with mine and brushes my hair back. His eyes are locked on mine. Why do I get the crazy feeling that God let him in on my thoughts just now?

Then he does what I should have expected, but the thought didn't cross my mind. He starts singing, "Give Your Heart A Break". I begin to cry and he wipes my tears away, as he rests his forehead against mine. "I know you've been hurt before...My sweet, sweet girl. I'm not that kind of guy. All the things I've ever felt for girls before..." His blue gaze is intense, making my heart race, "It's nothing. Nothing! Like what I feel for you. You are my intended. I've never been more sure of anything in my whole life. God had us in mind for each other from the beginning of time." His face is dead serious, and his blue eyes are brimming with tears. "I love you, Susanna Stephens. I will for forever, and then through eternity. I will never ever go away, so whether you like it or not, I'm Not Going Anywhere." He smiled.

"You just did a shameless plug for your own song." I smile, trying to lighten the mood. I touch his cheek lightly, and back away. "The devil knows I'm easy to doubt, Joey Stamper. I have many battle scars from the past, sometimes they choose to pop up again. You may have to remind me Alot. But I'll always love you too, darling."

"You make a grown man cry, woman." Joey says, teasingly, but the tears are indeed real.

I roll my eyes, playfully, but I know in all seriousness neither of us will forget this conversation. "We should go in before they think we got lost." I giggle as we race to the house and somehow achieve a calm breakfast with my family, acting as if nothing went on outside.

Joey's POV

"I'm guessing you have a plan?" I ask, skeptically.

We are standing at a smaller sized shed with several four wheelers inside. They are huge. "I know you might rather have a dirt bike, but I didn't have a stand, and it'd be too tall for you anyway." Susanna is getting far too much of a kick out of this, it's written all over her gorgeous, goofball of a face.

"Really now?" I capture her in my arms, and she giggles uncontrollably. "I'm the short one? Look again, Miss Pot."

"Takes one to know one, Mister Kettle." She winks, and twists away after kissing my cheek. That woman! But what can I say, I love her endlessly.

"Pick your poison." She laughs, as she motions to the choices in front of me.

My eyes latch on a green four wheeler, she grins, seeming pretty happy with herself. "I knew you'd choose that one." She pulls out a matching helmet, from a shelf on the wall behind her, and places it in my hands. I can't help but gasp when I eye it, it actually has my name on it. I look up at her, questions ringing through my head.

She blushes and eyes her blue riding boots, in fact her whole outfit lets me know this isn't her first "rodeo". "Well.... You have one just like it at home in Nashville...." She leads off.

"No, I don't..... wait?" I eye her, that look she's up to something.

"I hid it in the stable, with the horses." Susanna says while twirling a strand of hair around her finger. She shyly, lifts her blue-grey eyes, and looks at me through her lashes. "Surprise!" She does random jazz hands to emphasize herself.

"That's awesome." I grin, I can already tell that every day with this amazing woman is going to be one crazy adventure after another. Fortunately, I've always liked a good adventure!

She tosses me some matching goggles, then puts on her own helmet and goggles, and climbs on a blue Polaris. "You had no idea what you were getting into when you met me did you, Stamper?" The giggle still manages to escape the confines of the helmet, and she carefully backs the machine she is on out of the shed and hops off to lock up after I get mine out.

I just shake my head, honestly she's awesomesauce. "What's in the bag?" I ask, just now noticing the black pack fastened on the back of her rid. Instead of a verbal response, she starts her Polaris and gently hits the throttle, guiding me down a dirt path with mud holes along the way. When she finally stops we are in an open field, with a table set up, and a target farther down.

She gets off, and points to the cooler on the front of her ride. "That would be lunch." She moves towards the other end, picking up the black bag. "This would be my range bag." She pulls out a case, and shows me "a tiffany blue Glock pistol", I know this merely because she told me what it was. "I'm not sure how comfortable you would be with it, so it's mainly in the case of a bear or cougar attack." I look at her with eyes that I'm sure as big as dinner plates. She doesn't even pause. "So I brought the BB rifle for us to target practice with. Hope this isn't too weird."

"It's just you." I respond, only to find her staring at me.

A bit unsure, she replies, "I'm not sure whether that is a compliment or not, but I'm gonna go with it was." She shakes her head, then begins to tell me the rules of the range. "No matter if you are alone or not, always say when you are going to fire. Never fire when anyone is remotely in front of you. And never go down range when anyone has a gun out without notifying them."

"You are seriously attractive right now." I say, not realizing at first that I had let that thought slip through and right out into the open.

She blushes, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I'll show you first." She sets on the stool, and shows me the correct positioning, then fires. Miss. She eyes it, and nods. She readjusts and fires again, hitting on the ring next to the bullseye. We continue this back and forth for a while. And she grins, standing up. "This was a lot of fun." She looks like a by school girl.

We eat lunch and she pulls out a white container. "Dessert?" I ask, hopefully.

"My fresh strawberries from my patch." She grins, and hands me the container, I pull out one of the bright red berries and take a bite. WOW! I have never tasted anything like that.

We continue our day and then before we part ways for the night, we walk around a little bit. "I've enjoyed you being here, Joey. Showing you my world."

"I've enjoyed it too." Under the stars, her eyes seem to come more to life. She smiles up at me. Temptation wells up inside of me in a pulsing wave. "Good night. Don't forget we head back tomorrow. To Um.... Nashville." I spin on my heel and the world spins right along with me as I go tumbling down the hill.

Author's Note...

I'm sorry it's been awhile since I updated this story (or any of them much, honestly). Things have been really busy and crazy and I'm working on some new projects and priorities are coming to me and well things are just really busy.

But for me to say that those are the only reasons would be not telling y'all the whole truth.

So as you know most of the characters are based on real life people, more than not actually. So this story has gotten harder to write. Situations with writing some of these real people into this fictional story is... hard right now. I won't go into too many details. Pray for me that I can finish this story (and series one day maybe) and that it will honor and glorify my precious, loving God and sweet, sweet Jesus.
