Chapter 3 (Planning In The Park)
Joey's POV
I'm meeting Susanna in the park. She said something about plans. Wedding plans. That still sort of surprises me. I'm getting married. God is so amazing. Who would have thought that two years later from a chance meeting between me and an on the edge girl with pink pepper spray in hand would have brought us to this point. Working toward a future with a God honoring marriage and life and memories and laughter.... I gotta stop before I tear up.
Up ahead I see her sitting on "our" park bench, she has her hair pulled back into a curly pony tail. That means she is in a serious get things done type mode. Hmmm. Who'd have ever thought I could judge a woman's mood just by her hair style.
I hide the flowers behind my back as I sneak up on her. Putting a hand on her shoulder and the flowers in her lap, I shout out. "Surprise!"
Susanna turns around, a big grin busting out on her face. "JOEY!" She hugs me, and I can't wipe the goofy grin off of my face that before too long she will be my wife. Susanna looks down at the flowers, "Stargazer lilies! You remembered!"
I nod. "Of course. When you talk, I listen." I look down at the notebook she has in her hands. "So what are we planning?"
Susanna laughs. "First off, I just have to say that I'm glad I took a wedding planning class a few years back. It makes this a lot less stressful." She folds her hands in her lap. "I guess first matter of business is location."
"Ohh... I hadn't thought about that...." I scratch my head. Man, it's hard when you have at least three states of people to take into consideration.
"I'm not saying this to be selfish, but I thought Smith Falls would be a good place to have it. After all, Kentucky's right between Tennessee and Ohio." Her logic does make sense.
"I'm cool with that." I nod my approval. "Any other ideas?"
Sus blushes, "Well...." then the words start flowing forth like a raging river. "I really want our wedding to be blue, pink, and lights. Lots of lights. Kinda appropriate, don't ya think?" She smiles a beautiful smile.
"I love it. And you." If she had said she wanted a whale centerpiece at the main table, I would have done everything in my power to do it. Thankfully, she didn't. Lights are doable and awesome. And so us.
Susanna blushes, then goes back to her checklist. "Photography is taken care of. Lynn and my aunt are on that." She jots down notes.
"I know someone who could do the video." I add.
"Perfect. We will have the wedding on my family's land. Free, big, and perfect location." She writes down something else. "We still need to make a guest list. Send out invitations. Plan songs and the vows. Pick out the wedding party. Get the men fitted for suits. And the women their dresses." She drops her pen. "I still have to find a wedding dress!"
"The girls will help. Why don't we use Alan's kids for the flowers girls." I say, hoping to deter her from a panic. She nods and goes to writing again, then taps the pen on her chin, thinking. I take her hand in mine, "Well get through it together."
She awards me with a smile, "Then the after the wedding planning will come in. Like somewhere to live."
My face feels hot. "Yeah.... It would be awkward living with the band." I laugh and tug at my shirt color. Think of something. Anything to change the subject. GOT IT! I pull out my phone and get ready to hit the play button. "Hey, I have an idea for a song to sing to sing to you at the ceremony."
Her eyes light up. "Cool! Let me hear it!"
I put on a serious face, though I don't know how long it will stay that way and hit play. The music starts and I start dancing. Did I mention that Donald has been giving me lessons, that way I will be ready for the dance at the reception. But that's later.... and a secret.
The song is "Did I Mention" by Mitchell Hope from Disney Descendants. I'm dancing around like Elvis and dancing and grooving. Susanna is bent over laughing hysterically. "I never should have let you watch that with me." She shakes her heads, but she is grinning.
"Hey, the whole band and their families had the marathon before we watched it together the second time." I point out. Glad to see her calmed down again.
This may be a rough road ahead, but it's going to be the best ever.
