Chapter 6

"Out of my way you low life freaks!" That woman shouted as she made her way through the crowd near the gates.

I made myself hidden within the shadows that the trees provide and stood there watching when out of a sudden, I could feel a hand reaching out for me.

Out of pure reaction, I reached out as well and placed a strong grip on the hand, only to hear a voice that was all too familiar,

"My lady, as your guard, what do you suggest we do?"

I turned around to come face-to-face with Esmund.

"And may I ask, my friend, why do you call yourself that?" I simply replied, using my grace when I spoke. That I learnt five thousand years ago as well.

"Well, as your friend, I have self-hired myself as your personal guard to fight by your side no matter the situation."

I let out a fit of silent giggles.

Oh, the irony.

"Irene, is anything the matter?" Esmund asked, worry clear on his face as he pondered on whether did he say or did anything wrong.

"Oh Esmund, nothing is wrong. It's just the irony that I'm laughing about."

"Pardon?" Esmund asked as his worry was replaced by confusion.

"Well, you see I-" I was cut off by the piercing, yet, familiar voice of a woman.

"Get back, I'll perform a prayer that will grant me my magical powers!"

'Why does everyone look so panicked?' I asked myself as I teleported my way outside the gates, only to find a gang of Shadow Knights whom I felt the presence of earlier.

They chuckled at the woman's attempts to look like a hero. 'I should really learn her name' I thought once more as I watched from the shadows.

Usually, Shadow Knights would bother people. Why this particular village all of a sudden? I thought that we had a meeting on this already.

I was left to care for the Nether where the Shadow Knights dwell. From there, I could master the dark magicks that it had to offer. Of course, I did but I don't use it often.

"Well," spoke one of the Shadow Knights, whom in which I think is the leader, "you know what you have which we want."

"No! We don't know what you want!" the woman shouted again.

"Well, to be frank, we want the relic bearer." the man spat at the woman as she shook in fear.

"I am Irene and I will repel all of you away!" she screamed as three of the Shadow Knights broke down the gate and went straight on to attack the woman.

"NO!"

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"NO!" Rebecca screamed as Irene and I ran to her protection.

I transformed into my relic form and blocked on of the Shadow Knights when a wave of regret hit me.

I should be protecting Lady Irene! I am her friend! What if she's hurt? What if-

'Esmund

That was when a voice broke my train of thoughts, what was that?

'Esmund, can you hear me? It's, me, Irene.'

'Irene, you're alright!' I replied again in my thoughts and boy did it felt weird....

'Yes, I am alright.'

I turned to face Irene, only to see that she has a firm grip on one of the Shadow Knights by the wrist and the other in which she blocked with the help of her sword.

I heard that the sword was made from an unknown source, forged into the fire of the Wyverns and baked in the breath of the dragon king. But that was of course, a myth.

The fact that Irene could randomly come across something so very rare and unique was Bazoinkers!

"Let's get this world right again." I confirmed, making that as my war, or maybe, fighting speech and gave it a mental trademark.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The group of Shadow Knights charged straight toward us as both Esmund and I charged forward as well.

Not all Shadow Knights believe in having a 'good leader' and live peacefully, but instead, they go rogue and harm others.

I place a shield shaped like a dome around the inhabitants of the village as I finished off a Shadow Knight by throwing him over the forest.

Within minutes, the gang of Shadow Knights were defeated with the help of a bit of my magicks, strength and, of course, Esmund.

I turned around to make sure that the villagers were not hurt but all they did was stare at me in shock when that woman ran out of the shield and was on her knees by the time Esmund reached out to defend me.

"Lady! I am so, very sorry!" The woman cried out as the villagers gave her looks of disbelief and disapproval.

"Rebecca!," Esmund shouted as she looked up to face him.

'Oh, so that's her name', I thought as I placed a hand on Esmund's shoulder,

"Esmund....." I lingered, hoping that he could try to understand what I was trying to say, and he did.

"Sorry, my lady, I just-" he was cut off when a certain someone came to engulf me in a big, hug. Seriously, someone should name these kinds of hugs already.

"Irene! Are you alright?" I looked down to come staring into the amber coloured eyes of Constance.

"Yes, I am completely fine." I simply replied as I turned to look at the woman named Rebecca.

She stood up with fake confidence rolling off of her in waves towards me as she requested, "Can I keep Esmund now because I am the REAL Irene?"

I sighed, what should I do about her now?
