Chapter 3~Former Friend

"G-Grey?!" Ezra screamed as she opened the door to her bathroom. Then in a whisper voice said "What the f*ck are you doing here!?"

"I wanted to see my friend." he said. "There's nothing wrong with that!"

"THERE IS IF YOU'RE IN MY BATHROOM! NOW GET OUT!" she shoved Grey out and slammed the door shut.

When she was done she opened the door.

"Did you change your mind?" she asked, walking over to him. It had been two weeks since they last talked, and she would never admit it, but Ezra had missed the sound of his voice.

Grey nodded. "Yes indeed my little peach."

Ezra grabbed whatever she could find--a pillow--and threw it at him. "Don't call me that! I'm not yours and-- WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY DRESSER!?" she stormed over and slammed the drawer shut.

Grey shrugged. "I wanted to know what my former friend's life was like."

"Emphasize the former in that sentence." she snapped.

"Oh why you be so mean?" Grey whined.

"Gre--I mean, Jake, shut up!"

Grey only grinned and lightly pushed her against the wall, caging Eza in so she was in between him and the wall.

"You're kinda funny when you're furious." Grey said.

"You're kinda cute when you're dead." Ezra snapped, attempting to push Grey away, but he stayed put.

"But you haven't seen me dead!" Grey exclaimed and Ezra flipped him off. Grey frowned. "It's not nice to show that finger gir--wait, is that a ring!?"

Ezra hid her right hand, shaking her head vigorously.

"It is!" Grey grabbed hold of her hand and examined the ring. "Who gave it to you?"

Ezra scoffed, "I'm surprise I remember and you don't, idiot." she snapped. "YOU did. YOU gave it to me as a promise, remember dork?"

Grey's eyes widened. "I forgot..." he said quietly.

"For a long time I didn't remember who gave it to me." Ezra said, shrugging. "I remembered after we talked at LittleBuck."

Grey grinned. He reached down into his pocket, pulling out his own copy of the ring. The rings weren't too flashy so they didn't attract much attention. Just two simple golden rings of medal, with words carved into them. On the outside of the rings (the part that would be showing) Grey's ring said 'Best' and Ezra's ring said 'Friends.'

On the inside of the rings both of them listed their names, 'Jake and Ezra.'

Grey examined the ring before slipping it on his ring finger on his right hand. "Come on, put it on your ring finger, it's on the wrong hand anyway." he said.

Ezra rolled her eyes but did as he said.

"I guess I sort of broke what I wrote on the rings." Grey said, "The 'Best' left, leaving just 'Friends.'"

Ezra shook her head. "You broke nothing." she muttered, "Don't worry about it, but I think we should get something changed on these rings."

"What's that?"

"Your name." she took off the ring and pointed to the 'Jake' inside the ring. "I want it to be changed to Grey."

Grey grinned, taking a sharpie out of his pocket.

"What do you even keep in there!?" Ezra exclaimed.

"I don't even know anymore." Grey said, taking her ring. He changed it so it was now 'Grey/Jake and Ezra/Scarlette.' He did the same to his own and handed Ezra hers back.

"Scarlette?" Ezra asked, tilting her head.

"It's your nickname!" Grey said happily, laughing. "You know because your hair is so damn red."

Ezra raised an eyebrow, "Why didn't you put RedFlare, you should know that it's my official nickname."

"No it's not." Grey said. "It's something based off of the fake you!"

"But why not make it just S-C-A-R-L-E-T like a normal person?"

"Because this way it sounds fancier."

Ezra rolled her eyes, "Idiot."

"Hey!" Grey pouted. "It's genius, admit it."

Ezra motioned to the guy in front of her. "This, ladies and gentleman, is the great Grey at his highest peak!"

Grey frowned. "Shut up." he looked around the room, "Aren't there security cameras or something?"

"Naw, they canceled them, because they said, and I quote, 'They didn't do sh*t.'"

Grey cracked up, using the wall for support.

"What's so funny, Laughing Jack?" Ezra asked.

"Hey, my name is Jake, not Jack." he said.

"JAKE!?" they heard a far off cry, then a ton of running footsteps.

Ezra crossed her arms, "Gee, where were they when I screamed?" she muttered.

Grey let out a hearty laugh as the door flew open.

"Who are you and what are you doing in my daughter's room?" Ezra's dad yelled, holding a stick.

Grey moved away from Ezra and bowed slightly. He looked up, a small smile plastered onto his face.

"Mr. and Mrs. Flare." he said, his voice quiet. "I hoped you would recognize me, Ezra did."

Grey put his arm around Ezra's waist, smiling brightly. It took all of Ezra's willpower not to smack him.

Her mother's eyes lit up and her hands went to her mouth. "J-Jake?"

"The one and only." Grey said, nodding his head.

"W-wait." Ezra's mother said. "W-were you the one that Ezra was going to meet up with a few weeks back?"

Grey nodded again.

Before anyone could say another word she ran forwards, wrapping her arms around Grey, tears streaming down her face.

Grey returned the hug, still smiling.

Ezra's dad lowered the stick. "Welcome back." he said, putting his hand on Grey's shoulder, who nodded. "It's good to be back."
