Chapter 1~ The Break In
No one wants someone to break into their house.
No one wants to be killed.
No one wants to watch their family die and their house burn.
But it happens.
Ezra sat staring at her ceiling. Her windows had bars, her door had a thousand locks. She was the juvenile girl locked up in her own room. She got served food from a slot through the door.
But her family was safe.
At least, she thought they were.
She awoke with a crashing sound. She heard squeaking, as if someone was attempting to bend the bars on her 'cell window.' That wasn't possible, it wasn't. Was it?
"Stop being so loud! You'll wake her up!" a voice whisper-hissed.
"How about you bend the bars instead?" came the snappy reply.
"And you wonder why I never work with you!"
"Shut your trap Grey."
Grey?
As in the Grey? As in Grey the Mercilesss? Grey the I-will-kill-you-if-you-get-in-my-way Grey?
Ezra knew one thing. She was screwed. S-C-R-E-W-E-D. Screwed.
Slowly but surely she slipped out of her covers, praying that they don't notice her. She slipped onto the floor, staying quiet. She couldn't run out of the room because
1. They could shoot her
2. She wasn't allowed to leave her room at night.
3. THEY COULD SHOOT HER!
"Faster you idiot!" the voice hissed again, and that sent Ezra's mind into over-drive.
Let's see... she wasn't allowed to have anything violent or hurtful in her room (Damn those idiots), she wasn't allowed to leave her room, but she did have pillows!
It was worth a shot.
Her hand reached up to the top of the bed, slowly taking her pillows off.
It was at that moment she realized one pillow was heavier than the rest. Ezra thought that was especially unusual because that certain pillow had JUST POKED HER IN THE HAND.
Through the darkness of night she slid out the pillow from it's case. Something seemed to be glowing from on top of the pillow, shining like medal.
That's it!
Ezra grasped the former hidden knife, wielding it in her hands.
Now she could face Grey.
A loud crashing sound filled the air, like the sound of the bars to her room smashing against the floor. Damn, if that was the work of Grey The Merciless he was wimpier than he was made out to be.
"You idiot you dropped the f*cking bars!" someone hissed.
"Would you rather I drop it on your head?" snapped the other voice. "Come on. I don't think anyone's in here."
Scuffling sounds came next, like they were climbing through the window.
"Where's the f*cking lightswitch?" voice 1 cursed. The lights switched on, and with them came a smile from the hidden girl.
When her lights were switched on she was checked on by personal guards, they couldn't have been any more stupid.
"Wait a minute." voice 2 said. "I know this room. I know that girl!" Ezra peeked over the bed to see what he was pointing at. It was a picture of her, without the frame and stuff of course. She was maybe five or six in that picture, her scarlet hair already long and down to her waist.
"I know her." he kept on saying. "I..." he trailed off.
"Snap out of it Grey, we have some robbing to do." voice 1 snapped.
"Suck it." Grey said back.
Slowly Ezra rose her head even higher to get a good look at the others, and her mouth dropped. Whenever she picture Grey she imagined a 20-something-year-old man with a trench coat or some random sh*t like that, not... not this.
Grey was in short, very handsome. He had light brown hair that sort of stuck up on it's own, creating a cool spike sort of look, no gel required. He had gentle brown eyes, that in some light could look lavender, and pale white skin that made him look almost transparent. His features were absolutely perfect, and Ezra couldn't find a single flaw in them.
F*cking gorgeous, that's what she thought. Very handsome and cute, yes.
Ezra mentally slapped herself. This was no time to be fawning over some boy, this was a break-in!
Without a moment's hesitation she jumped out of her hiding spot, bringing the two down to the ground. She held the knife to the other guy's throat while holding Grey down.
"Shoot me and I kill your friend." she snapped at Grey, who slowly lowered his gun.
"Don't worry about me! Shoot the damn girl!" the other guy said. He was tall and muscular. He had black hair and blue eyes, with a lot of piercings. He definitely was not under the age of 20.
"I can't!" Grey snapped, "I don't wanna shoot a girl!"
His friend's jaw dropped. "REALLY!?" he screeched. "YOU'VE KILLED THOUSANDS OF WOMAN BEFORE YOU IDIOT!"
"But they weren't girls..." Grey said.
Ezra simply rolled her eyes. "Grey the Merciless, huh?"
"Shut up!" Grey snapped.
"Does it look like I want to?"
"Well... no."
"You are horrible at thieving, you know that?"
"SHUT UP!"
"But it's the truth." Ezra was getting quite entertained.
"I've lost my mojo, okay?" he snapped. "I'm 18, have no life, and I'm wanted all over the world. Pretty sure death awaits me if I get captured."
"So.... then why'd you let me capture you?" Ezra raised an eyebrow.
"Because. I was startled by your picture." he pointed to the picture on the dresser. "I thought I knew that girl but instead I find an annoying brat."
"You know someone with your features shouldn't even hurt a fly." Ezra said.
Grey shrugged. "What do you think makes me such a good criminal. The only people who see my face are ones I work with, or the ones I kill. No one knows what I look like, so to the public I'm just an innocent face until I kill."
Ezra slapped him across the face and got up.
Immediately two guns were against both sides of her head.
"Don't move." Grey said with a menacing growl. "Or we'll shoot."
"'Don't move or we'll shoot.'" Ezra mocked him. "I believe you've just declared war you little runt."
She punched the two in the gut at the same time, using their bodies to push herself to the ground. Two shots ranged out, but all that came from them were to big holes in the wall.
Grabbing her knife she tackled Grey to the ground, snatching his gun from his hand in the same move.
In the next moment she was on top of Grey, her knife held to his throat, his gun pointed at his friend.
"Do you even know how to fire that thing?" Grey growled.
"No." Ezra answered truthfully. "But if criminals as lame and dumb as you can figure it out, I think I can too. Normally I would be dead by now by nooo."
"You sound like you wanna be dead, missy." his partner said.
"So what if I do?" Ezra snapped. "I'll take you both down with me and you know that. Fire that gun and you're both dead. NOW DROP IT!"
The other man was so startled that he actually did what she said, sadly the gun fired as soon as it hit the floor.
"F*CK!" Ezra exclaimed. The knife and the gun fell from her grasp, another shot ringing through the air.
The older man fell with a screech, attempting to hold his foot. Blood spilled out onto the floor, but Ezra didn't care.
She clenched her teeth, simply ignoring the edging pain in her leg.
She turned her head over to Grey, who was still laying there, still as could be.
"Your eyes." he said quietly.
"What about them!?" Ezra snapped angrily, her vision going blurry.
"I know those eyes." is the last words she heard before collapsing. She couldn't ignore the pain, it hurt too much.
It all hurt too much...
