Chapter 1

Midoriya was tired. It had been a long day of being bullied at school, and not to mention, his idol had completely crushed his dream of being a hero.

He collapsed onto his bed, currently not feeling bothered by the urge to rip down all of his All Might posters. He'd deal with that later. Right now, though. he just wanted to lie there.

He absent mindedly scrolled through Herogram, until he came across a strange post. Well, not nessicarily strange, just unusal. The post seemed to be a sort of rant about how corrupt the hero system was. It touched on how many pros had civilain cassualties, many of which were never even talked about. Hell, Midoriya hadn't heard of half these incidents, and he was a hero fanatic. It also spoke of property damage, and how heroes had in many instances, seriously injured or even killed the villains they fought.

The part that really surprised Midoriya, however, was the very last paragraph.

'Most heroes don't even do all that much. Heroes like All Might, Endevour, Best Jeanist, and other extremely powerful or skilled heroes each do around 12% out of all the hero work. That would be around 10% more than thirty of your average heroes do combined. Keep in mind that these are estimates. Typical heroes usually will simply wait for a more powerful hero to come when they see an even slightly dangerous situation. And meanwhile, civilians are stuck in these situations without any means to protect themeselves. Afterall, they'd get arrested if they used their quirks. Aren't these people supposed to be the heroes who would risk their lives to protect us?'

Midoriya was definitely interested by this. Pretty much all of the posts about heroes you would see were fan posts, or analysis. So naturally, this outlier intrigued him. Now, Midoriya checked the sources linked at the bottom of the post, which comfirmed that whoever had written the post had been doing some research in the subject.

However, what the greenette was really curious about was the person behind the post. He clicked on their profile, in hopes of finding something out. Their username was 'Insomnicat', and they had a cat drawing as their profile picture. Their bio seemed simple enough, including the fact that they used he/him pronouns, he was in middle school, and he liked cats. As if it wasn't obvious as is.

Most of his posts seemed to be either pictures of his cats, or rants about one topic or another. He did a lot of posts on heroes or quirk discrimination.

Soon enough, Midoriya found himself reading every one of his rant posts. He left a like or comment on most of them too.

He ended up following the profile by the end of it, not seeing much of a reason not too. After that, he checked the time, saw that it was almost midnight, and went to bed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, school was out. Midoriya woke up at around 5:32 due to a buzzing noise next to him. It took him a moment to register the fact that the buzzing was from his phone.
Why was he getting notifications this early in the morning?
He groaned to himself, and reached over to pick it up.
There were a few news notifications, which Midoriya supposed wasn't too surprising. However, what was surprising was the fact that he seemed to have a DM from someone on Instagram.
More specifically, Insomnicat.
Insomnicat: Hey.
Midoriya stared at the message, unsure of what to do with it. No one ever actually messaged him, probably because they had no reason too. So why did Insomnicat message him? It didn't make any sense to him.
He typed out a response.
BroccoliBoi: Hello? If I may ask, why are you messaging me? Not too be rude or anything.
Only a few moments later, a response came.
Insomnicat: Idk. You seem like a nice person, so I figured why not?
Midoriya chuckled at that. The conversation went on for awhile, although they didn't really discuss anything personal. They were complete strangers, after all.
By the end of it, though, both of them felt as if they had made a new friend.
