Chapter 7
"Fine"
-------
After Mika, John and Ryan cleaned up the mess. Mika led the boys to her car.
"But what about our bikes?" John asked, carrying an unconscious JiJi.
"We'll get it later." Mika said, getting in the driver's seat. Ryan went to the front seat and John went at the back seat so he'll have lots of room to lay JiJi down. Mika threw her bag to Ryan and then started her car, Ryan arranged the bags he was carrying which were Mika's, JiJi's, John's, and his.
"Your parents wouldn't mind us around, wouldn't they?" Ryan asked Mika as she drove out from the parking lot. Mika furrowed her eyebrows at the road, then lightly shook her head.
"No, she wouldn't." She quietly said. They heard a groan behind them, Ryan looked back while Mika looked through the rearview mirror.
"Jim!" John gasped quietly. JiJi groaned and whimpered, moving deeper into John's chest, eyes clenched tightly in pain. "You're going to be okay Jimmy, don't worry." He looked up to them with a worried face.
"Don't worry John. She'll be fine. Her head doesn't look that bad, I think I'll be able to just clean it up real good and apply some antibiotics to it. We may probably have to prepare some pain killers as well, cause it seems the blow was too hard, she'll probably have a concussion." Mika diagnosed seriously, she noticed the change of the atmosphere as she stopped at a red light.
She looked at the two boys who were looking at her with amazement. "What?" She asked.
"How do you know all those stuff?" John asked.
"I study medicine. And my mom was a doctor before." Mika said before continuing to drive.
"Make sense." Ryan commented quietly before sitting properly on his seat. 15 minutes later they have arrived to a welcome looking house. Mika and Ryan got out from the car, taking their bags with them. John opened his side of the door and got out with JiJi in his arms.
"Mom, I'm home!" Mika called as she opened the door. A smell of pasta sauce wafted in the house. A woman in her middle ages appeared from the kitchen, she wore an apron around her thin waist. Her appearance made a striking resemblance of her own daughter.
"Welcome home dear- oh! Who are these visitors with you?" She asked in a kind voice her warm amber eyes shining wisely.
"Not now mom, I just need them here for a bit to do something." Mika said as she kissed her mother on the cheek then led the boys to the living room. "I'm gonna use the medical kit by the way."
"Oh dear, what happened?" Mika's mother asked upon seeing the unconscious girl in John's arms. They all proceeded to the living room. Mika disappeared in the hallway to go find the medical kit in the bathroom. That gave the rest of the people in the room to introduce themselves. "My name's Elena. May I know your names young men?"
"Oh, my name is Ryan." Ryan said.
"I'm John." John raised his hand.
"And she is?" Elena asked nodding towards the unconscious girl.
"And this is Jimimah." John answered.
"Jimimah huh. What an odd name for a child." Elena wondered out loud. Then she smiled warmly. "It's a beautiful name for her."
"I'm here." Mika's voice rang through the silence. She appeared with the first aid kit and a towel in her hands.
"Oh! I'll go get some water." Ryan said as he stood up.
"I'll help you dear. I need to go back to my cooking anyways." Elena said and they rushed back to the kitchen. Ryan came back with a bowl full of water.
"Thank you." Mika thanked Ryan who smiled in return. They sat down in front of JiJi and Mika started cleaning her bruise. "Damn, he hit too hard."
"What's wrong?" Ryan asked, gripping on the antibiotics in his hand.
"The blow was very too hard." Mika informed. "She has a cut right here." Ryan gasped before scowling darkly, John growled.
"I'm so gonna get them for this." John said.
"Hey, save it. JiJi's our priority for now first." Mika said as she put the wet towel away. The bruise was already clean, making the said cut to pop out. Ryan hand her the antibiotics. "Thank you." He nodded in return.
"What do we do after this?" John asked.
"We'll have to wait for her to wake up first." Mika said, Ryan handed her the bandages. "Thank you." Ryan hummed in reply.
"How about you kids stay for dinner?" Elena said as she walked in the living room, wiping her hands on the now dirty apron. She smiled at them. "I made Mikaela's favorite, spaghetti. I added more pasta a while ago. It has been a while since I last cooked for more than two people."
"Yeah, stay for dinner." Mika agreed. As Ryan hand her the pain killers. She laughed. "Thank you." Ryan grinned before standing up and wander back to the kitchen to find a glass of water for JiJi when she wakes up.
"Oh we wouldn't want to disturb your peaceful night. Besides we have work later. When JiJi wakes up, we'll be out of you hair." John said as Ryan came back nodding in agreement.
"Oh c'mon, take this as a payback from lunch." Mika smiled at the boys. The two sighed then looked at each other. They looked back at the two women in front of them.
"How much of a choice are you giving us?" Ryan asked, looking at Mika.
"Mm, not much." Mika smiled, shrugging lightly.
"Alright fine. We'll stay." Ryan gave in as he placed the glass of water on the table. "I'll just have to text gramps that we'll be absent for this shift." He took out his phone and started typing.
"I'll go prepare the table." Elena announced then left the room.
"Hey do you have any blankets?" John asked Mika quietly.
"I have some in my room. May I know why?" Mika raised a curious brow at him.
"JiJi has a very low body temperature, she'll instantly shivers whenever she's not awake and active. Every night she goes to bed in our apartment she always wraps herself with an oversized sweater, some pajama pants and then two blankets." John said, a look of worry plastered on his face.
"Oh. I'll go get some right away." Mika exclaimed and ran upstairs to get some blankets. John looked back at the sleeping girl on the couch, she was already shivering lightly.
"She's shivering isn't she?" Ryan asked, clicking his phone off.
"Yeah." John replied before looking at him with a concern glance.
"Here." They heard Mika's voice. They looked at the girl as she approached them. She handed the blankets to John and he immediately wrapped it around the sleeping JiJi. "Will she be warm enough?"
"She'll be fine." John assured worriedly as her shivering ceased to occasional sniffles.
"Yeah, she'll be fine." Ryan assured as he placed a hand on John's shoulder with a sad smile.
