Chapter 29
Did you hear me?
-------
Stephen came by and patted John on the back.
"Oh hey."
"Are you guys finishing up?" Stephen asked.
"We're about to do our last song." John replied.
"Oh, it's just that uhm. I got neighbors complaining how loud we are. We are just next door to an apartment, most of the residents there are like oldies. I know it's your last song but I hope it's something mellow." Stephen stated.
"We weren't even that loud." John muttered. "Our last song isn't that mellow but we'll add one. I'll tell the others, don't worry."
"Are you sure? You kids are almost past your bedtime." Stephen remarked.
"Ha! There's no such thing!" John exclaimed with a laugh. Then he went to the others. "Okay guys, I might have told Stephen that we're adding another song."
"What? Why? We were just about to finish up." JiJi asked then John went and explain to them. "Damn. Okay."
"What song are we adding that's mellow? We didn't practice one." Ryan asked.
"Got one!" JiJi exclaimed. "You guys, just chill, let me take care of this."
The other three looked at each other but went to prepare behind her for their last song.
"Hello, everyone, I'm sorry but apparently we were being too loud for the residents in an apartment beside us." JiJi laughed as she positioned herself in front of the piano. "But hey it's okay, I've got a song here that'll ease us a bit and show them that we can be not too loud. This is Xanny by Billie Eilish."
Ryan and John looked at each other, realizing what JiJi was about to sing. They shared a sympathetic look and John went to sit beside JiJi on the piano seat handing her a spare mic while moving the other one in the stand to him, indicating that he'll play the piano for her and she'll just sing. JiJi placed a hand over John's on the piano and smiled sadly, then she turned to the crowd.
JiJi ☆ John
What is it about them?
I must be missing something
They just keep doing nothing
Too intoxicated to be scared
Better off without them
They're nothing but unstable
Bring ashtrays to the table
And that's about the only thing they share
I'm in their second hand smoke
Still just drinking canned coke
I don't need a xanny to feel better
On designated drives home
Only one who's not stoned
Don't give me a xanny now or ever
Waking up at sundown
They're late to every party
Nobody's ever sorry
Too inebriated now to dance
Morning as they come down
Their pretty heads are hurting
They're awfully bad at learning
Make the same mistakes, blame circumstance
I'm in their second hand smoke
Still just drinking canned coke
I don't need a xanny to feel better
On designated drives home
Only one who's not stoned
Don't give me a xanny now or ever
Please don't try to kiss me on the sidewalk
On your cigarette break
I can't afford to love someone
Who isn't dying by mistake in Silver Lake
What is it about them?
I must be missing something
They just keep doing nothing
Too intoxicated to be scared
"Tell them to just transition to the last song." JiJi hastily whispered to John as she played a sad piano solo piece and John left to tell the other two and the crowd was clapping and cheering. They quickly went to their positions. Mika and Ryan with his guitar at front on stools with microphone stands and microphones, and John behind a small drum set behind them. JiJi was just at the side.
"Okay this is our last song for tonight. Thank you everyone for coming. This is the Far From Home Cafe, you can do gigs here with your band or just an open mic presentation. Just approach Mr. Stephen Li over there for more details." Ryan said to the crowd pointing at Stephen at the side of the little stage. He then looked at JiJi for a signal that she is ready. "We are Spirited Away and this is by Greyson Chance."
JiJi skillfully transitioned to the right keys on the piano for their last song. "Waiting Outside The Lines."
JiJi ☆ Ryan ☆ Mika
You'll never enjoy your life
Living inside the box
You're so afraid of taking chances
How you gonna reach the top?
Rules and regulations
Force you to play it safe
Get rid of all the hesitation
It's time for you to seize the day
Instead of just sitting around
And looking down on tomorrow
You gotta let your feet off the ground
The time is now
I'm waiting, waiting, just waiting
I'm waiting, waiting outside the lines (woah, woah, woah)
(Woah)
Waiting outside the lines (woah, woah, woah)
Waiting outside the lines
Try to have no regrets
Even if it's just tonight
How you gonna walk ahead
If you keep living blind?
Stuck in the same position
You deserve so much more
There's a whole world around us
Just waiting to be explored
Instead of just sitting around
And looking down on tomorrow
You gotta let your feet off the ground
The time is now, just let it go
Don't wanna have to force you to smile
I'm here to help you notice the rainbow
'Cause I know what's in you is out there
John and JiJi shared a knowing look when they saw Ryan and Mika just staring at each other with loving gazes. JiJi mocked a gag while John laughed.
I'm waiting (waiting)
Waiting (waiting)
Just waiting (waiting)
I'm waiting, waiting outside the lines (woah, woah, woah)
(Woah)
Waiting outside the lines (woah, woah, woah)
Waiting outside the lines
I'm trying to be patient (I'm trying to be patient)
The first step is the hardest (the hardest)
I know you can make it
Go ahead and take it
I'm waiting, waiting, just waiting
I'm waiting
I'm waiting
Waiting, just waiting
I'm waiting, waiting outside the lines (woah, woah, woah)
Waiting outside the lines (Woah)
(Woah, woah, woah)
Waiting outside the lines
You'll never enjoy your life
Living inside the box
You're so afraid of taking chances
How you gonna reach the top?
