Chapter 23
The Music Festival
-------
Today was finally the day. The second day of the Festival. Weeks have went by too fast when the quartet practiced every break, music and dismissal time. The fesitval was held behind the school on their soccer field. The stage on one side of the field was decorated with many instruments, ready to be played. Chairs were placed neatly in a stack at the front and some blankets, it was your descision if you want to sit on a chair or lie on a blanket across the grass. Photobooths, games, souvenir shops, and food stalls are littered everywhere. And fairylights were added to the touch for the night performances.
"I'm nervous-cited again!" The quartet had been preparing backstage with a comfortable silence when JiJi decided to disrupt it.
"Yeah, me too actually." John agreed, fixing his black jacket and then his hair nervously.
JiJi stopped him. "You're messing your look." She was wearing a white with a soft yellow dip jumper and a cute cactus was on the center. She had on her black shorts and black converse shoes. Half of her hair was up in a messy bun and she had on light make up.
"Fix it." John tried to give a demand but the racking feeling of nervousness and the shakiness of his voice gave it away and he was starting to get anxious when he realized that it didn't sound polite at all. "Please?"
JiJi laughed. "Calm down." She quiffed back John's hair to make it look like it was before, she fixed his soft yellow shirt underneath his jacket and dusted his jeans. "Good now baby?"
"Yeah, thanks mom." John gave her a cheeky grin. Ryan smiled at his best friends before looking back at Mika. She was watching Brittany and her girls, or 'The Britts' if you like. Terrible name if I may add for a girl band with members who have different names.
"Hey, you nervous?" Mika stopped chewing her thumbnail and looked at Ryan.
"Yeah, scared even." She trailed off and started fiddling with the end of the sleeve of her pink long sleeved off-shoulder then patted her white shorts nervously. "There's a lot of people."
"It is the last day of the festival, but hey, don't you worry, you'll be fine. I know there's a lot of people out there and you're gonna be singing to them but think of it as practice. A very good and smooth practice, and there is just the four of us." Ryan cheekily smiled taking her hand in his and gave her a thumb up with the other.
'I'd like to think only you.' Mika blushed at her thought and shook her head, gave Ryan a small chuckle, then let out a shakey sigh. "I'll try."
"This girl is on fire!"
"Thank you for that, uhm, very hot performance, Britts." A few claps were heard, making Britt huff and stomped her way out of the stage, shoving Mika on the way. She stumbled a bit, Ryan gripping her arm in the proccess and glared at Britt's dissapearing form.
A good friend of JiJi, named Harold, was assigned to host for the event and he doesn't like those three girls one bit after she told him what they had done but sadly he made an agreenment with JiJi that he has to put an act for the event to avoid hassle. "So we all probably know that today is the last day of the Music Festival."
There was a lot of groans and whines heard from the crowd. Harold laughed. "I know, I know. But these last performers are some people who you'll never regret listening to. Some of you might have heard them over a telecom a few weeks ago. Some of you are classmates with them and have personally saw them perform at music class. And some of you are friends with a certain loud short girl."
"Hey!" JiJi popped up behind him making the crowd cheer and laugh. Harold laughed as well as the rest of the band came out and prepared themselves for their first song.
"It is my honor to present to you all, as our last performers to end the day: Spirited Away!" Harold announced and walked off stage leaving the crowd to cheer at the band in front.
"Hello everybody!" JiJi greeted with a huge smile, fixing her mic as she sat down behind the piano. She got a lot of responses screaming 'hello' or 'JiJi!!' The girl laughed before extending her arm to Mika. "I would like for ya'll to give Mika here a hand, yeah?"
The crowd cheered.
"She has this stage fright and I'm very proud of the fact that she's out here today for ya'll." Mika gave JiJi a small smile as the girl smiled back, playing a few keys preparing herself behind the piano. She adruptly stopped after John sat beside her, preparing his fingers on the keys. "Okay, so this first song is called If I Die Young, it goes like this."
The crowd cheered as John started playing the piano, JiJi harmonizing him.
(Ryan, Mika, both)
If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Oh oh oh oh
Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors, and oh
Life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
I'll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom
I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger
I've never known the lovin' of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand
There's a boy here in town says he'll love me forever
Who would have thought forever could be severed by
The sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
Ryan stared at Mika when she did the high note, then looked at his two best friends who were doing the piano duet solo happily when she turned to look back at him.
A penny for my thoughts, oh no
I'll sell them for a dollar
There's so much more after I'm a goner
And maybe then you'll hear
The words I've been singing
Funny when you're dead
How people started listening
If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Oh oh oh oh
If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Sharp knife of a short life, well
I've had just enough time
If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down
