Chapter 18
Abandoned Memories
-------
Mika spent the whole time waiting for her friends surfing.
Surfing the internet.
"Mika! They're here!" She heard Elena called.
"Coming!" Mika called back as she closed her laptop, tidied up and grabbed her stuff. She heard voices talking and laughing in the living room as she went dowstairs. She smiled softly. It's been a while since she last heard noises in this house.
"Seriously, I would have drank the whole coffee shop if I could." JiJi commented and the two boys and Mika's mother laughed.
"Hey." Mika greeted as she entered.
"Hey! We were just talking how early we have to work today so that we can spend time with you later." JiJi said with a smile. Adjusting a huge bag she was carrying on her lap.
"Well." Mika snorted. "Thanks?"
"I have prepared food for ya'll." Elena chimed in, now with a picnic basket in her hands. "I made lasagna, some sandwiches and I packed in some fruits and chips too. I had some flashlights in here, just in caaaase. And please call me if there are any trouble and I'll come pick you up! Okay?"
The trio laughed while Mika rolled her eyes plafully. "We'll be fine mom."
"Yeah, besides. We have two body guards." JiJi snickered.
"Yes, you boys better look out for your gals here, a'right?" Elena said pointing a finger at John and Ryan.
"Yes ma'am." John replied and gave Ryan a side glance with a smirk. Ryan was glaring at him back with a small blush. JiJi laughed behind them while Mika blushed as well.
"We'll be heading off then mum. See you." Mika said, kissing her mum's cheek hastily before leaving the house with her car keys clinking together from her back pocket and Ryan following behind. John took the basket from Elena and waited for JiJi on the front porch.
"I'll look out for them ms. E." JiJi assured with a smile
"Thank you Jim." Elena said looking at the girl with a serious face.
"Whatever for?" JiJi snorted, sensing something else behind her thanks.
"For being there for Mika." Elena said. She held her hands to her chest. "You have done so much, I--." A hand rested on top of Elena's. The mother looked up to see the teen smiling at her fondly
"I'm merely just slowly fullfilling my bucket list." She said before swinging her huge bag over to her shoulder and leaving the house with John.
"I asked Ryan to leave your bikes in the garage." Mika said from the driver's seat.
"Cool." JiJi said as she went in the back seat with John. A few minutes later Ryan went in the passenger seat with another basket.
"We prepared stuff too." Ryan replied to Mika's questioning look. She formed her lips in an 'oh'. "Ready to go?" A chorus of yes was heard from the back seat.
"Alright, let's go." Mika said and started driving.
☆
"WOOOAAHH!" JiJi exclaimed as she literally jumped out when Mika just stopped the car. "The view is amazing!"
"Wow." John breathed out as Ryan whistled.
"I knew you guys would love it." Mika said as she walked up beside them.
"Come on! Let's set up!" JiJi squealed as she pulled on John's free hand and dragged him to an open space with a perfect view of the city.
"I'm guessing you come here a lot then?" Ryan asked Mika when they're alone. JiJi bounded up beside him and took the basket he was carrying, gave them a smirk and went bouncing back to John.
"Yeah." Mika let out a nervous laugh. "Mostly to just think."
"What was this place before?" Ryan asked.
"A park. I used to come here a lot when I was a kid with my... dad and the twins." Mika explained her voice breaking on the last part.
"I'm not gonna pry." Ryan said quietly. "Sorry."
"S'fine." Mika took a shaky breath. "I used come here a lot with them. This place doesn't get really that much people, but when my dad's around, we all tend to get along. People that came here recognizes us. And often said that we gave life to this park. Now that they're gone. I stopped coming here. And soon the people did too."
"If you don't mind me asking." Ryan asked slowly. "What happened to them?"
"The twins were first to go. Dad was with them and an injury from the accident triggered his lung cancer." Mika explained.
"Oh." Ryan said quietly. "I'm not even gonna apologize cause a 'sorry' is not gonna bring them back. Let's just try to enjoy today, yeah?"
"Try?" Mika sniffled and rubbed away the in coming tears. Then flashed Ryan a smile. "I will enjoy today."
"Yo lovebirds! Lasagna's getting cold!" They heard JiJi yell and John laughing in the background.
"Let's eat?" Ryan offered. Mika hummed with a nod. They approached John and JiJi to see two huge picnic blankets sprawled across the grassy area close to each other, wireless fairylights decorating the edges, the food were placed on one side where they will be facing the view a few small pillows where thrown here and there, two small gas lamps were placed on the front with the food and one on the back with the other stuff, the baskets and JiJi's now flat bag were thrown behind them.
"Oh so those are what's inside your bag and basket." Mika said while pointing at the pillows, fairylights and lamps.
"Yep." JiJi giggled. "Thought it'll be appropriate for the moment."
"Since you decided that you were to bring the food. So we agreed to bring the extra essentials." Ryan grinned.
"I love it." Mika smiled. "Kinda reminds me of my room."
"Ours too." JiJi giggled.
"Let's eat! I'm STARVING!" John yelled as he dramtically dragged himself across the blankets and towards the food. The other three laughed and joined John in scarfing food down their throats.
☆
"We should like, re-live this place." JiJi suggested after an hour of silence. They have finished eating and was now lying on there backs gazing at the stars. "Like, this place is abandoned right? So we should make this place come alive again."
"Yeah, I like the sound of that." Ryan said.
"There's an old swing somewhere by the trees." Mika mentioned.
"No no no no no no no no no.. We should make like a deck here." JiJi said with a huge smile. Then starts directing the air as she tries to picture out her imagination to her friends. "Imagine! A deck with a chair swing that'll fit a maximum of four people. Then we can have a coffee table with two loveseats overlooking the view and we can just leave this space here for anytime we want to have a picnic!"
"That's.. actually not bad." Ryan remarked. "But where can we even find the supplies?"
"We'll buy them duh." JiJi snorted as she sat up to get a better look of her friends.
"I think there are some constructing equipments at home in our garage." Mika said. "I can ask mum if we can use them."
"Do we even have the money to buy the rest of the supplies?" John asked out of the blue from being quiet in the whole coversation.
"We'll work for it, don't worry." JiJi said with a suggestive tone. "We can do this."
"Well, I'm down with it." Ryan shrugged, placing his hands behind his head with a smile while closing his eyes.
"Me too." John agreed.
"Mika?" JiJi asked with a grin.
"It does sounds fun." Mika smiled. "Why not?"
"Yes!" JiJi was iternally jumping all over the place but not by just the idea that she's going to make a special place for her and her bestfriends' to hangout. But by also the fact that no one complained about her mentioning specifically two loveseats for the deck.
