Warde has a girlfriend?
"So, how are we getting back to the surface?" Amara asked.
"Same way we got down, shadow travel," Daniel answered, sliding the lock off the door and pocketing it. Ronan raised his eyebrow and Daniel shrugged. "I figured you'd probably know someone who'd love to tinker with this."
"Secilia probably would," Ronan admitted.
They shadow traveled back to the surface, appearing where they'd first met Amara.
"See you guys, I'd better get back to my group," Amara said.
"One last thing, what did you mean by identification?" Metron asked.
She grinned, then opened her mouth, a pair of fangs swinging down and a forked tongue flickering out. "Like that, something everyone has here. Well, not fangs, but something similar to an animal. That's what I mean when I said extra genes. Most of us are missing a few genes at birth, so there are animal genes grafted in in place of those missing genes."
"And your fangs fold away like a snake's," Daniel realized.
"Yeah, it wouldn't do to bite down on my fangs every time I close my mouth," Amara said.
"Maybe we'll see you again sometime," Ronan said. "For now, we have to get back."
"To your own universe?" She finished. The three boys gaped at her. "Oh please, you smell of another universe, I'm surprised the dwarves didn't recognize that smell on your friend."
"Um, okay?" Metron said.
"Why can everyone smell our special talents?" Ronan asked rhetorically.
She shrugged. "It's a part of my skill set, but not a part of everyone's."
"Come on, the others are probably wondering where we are," Daniel said, tugging gently on Ronan's arm.
"Maybe we'll see you sometime," Ronan said.
She nodded. "Perhaps. Bye!" She darted off towards the camp, flashing her fangs at the guard posted there. He let her in, and she disappeared behind a door of stone.
Metron and Daniel each placed a hand on Ronan's shoulders. And Ronan shadow traveled them to the portal, which was surprisingly still unguarded. The portal was still open, and the three of them jumped through.
"Where's Emma?" Kora asked immediately.
"She had to go help Secilia," Ronan replied calmly. "She's fine."
Kora sighed, relaxing slightly.
"I think we need to get back to our own universe," Kella said, glancing at the portal.
"We'll go back with you," Warde said, gesturing to himself and Relyi. "You said you have a ghost problem? We can help you with it."
"Don't execute them though, capture them, then release them in the place where all ghosts are in this universe," Elyse said, pointing her rapier at him.
"Cool it, Rapier," Metron muttered. She snorted, going back to sharpening the blade, despite it not really needing the sharpening.
"We can do that," Relyi said. "We'll be here if you need us."
"We'd better figure out how to take control of that portal we were thrown in." Illya said. "That way, we can have traffic from the other universes coming through, and we don't have to worry about it."
"If anything, we'll be getting the traffic," Warde pointed out grumpily. A screech interrupted him. A massive, ghostly phoenix flew down through the ceiling, landing on the ground in front of Warde and shifting into a humanoid figure.
"Warde Meex Scalzo," she thundered, storming forward and placing a finger squarely in his chest and slowly pushing him backward. "You'd better explain your self. You forgot about our date."
Relyi snickered. "That was tonight? Oops."
The entire Enigma team hid smiles.
"Would this be your girlfriend Warde?" Ronan asked innocently.
Warde growled at him. "Yes, now back off."
The girl sighed. "Warde, what did I say?"
He looked embarrassed. "No growling at people if they ask if you're my girlfriend."
She sighed again, putting a hand on her face. "Nice to meet you, I'm Valda." She offered her hand.
"I'm Kella, this is Ronan, Metron, Illya, Daniel, Elyse, Kora, Xenia, Anete, and Titos." She pointed to each person as she said their name, each one doing some sort of wave or greeting.
"And I'm going to ignore the quiver of arrows on your back, the sword at his side, and the spear Anete is holding," Valda commented. "You guys ghosts?"
"Nah, demigods," Warde replied.
Valda looked confused for a second, then it cleared. "Greek mythology. I got it now. I could've sworn you guys weren't in our universe."
"We weren't," Ronan offered. "We got here through that portal."
"Oh, did Warde finally figure out it has a dimensional setting?"
Warde looked irritated, and the Enigma team plus Relyi and Valda hid smiles again. "You knew?" He asked.
"Well, you are dating the daughter of a primordial ghost," she pointed out.
Warde deflated, throwing his hands up in the air. "I will never win with you, will I?"
Valda looked sad for a moment, but it passed. "The only time you'll win is if I'm laying on my death bed."
Warde's face softened, and he placed an arm around her shoulders.
"While this is adorable, keep the PDA to a minimum, would you?" Anete asked, breaking the silence.
Xenia glared at Anete, and Anete backed up slowly, hands in front of her.
(A/N) So, ages. Warde is 16, almost 17, and Relyi is 20, and on a break from college at this point. Valda is yes, a ghost, but hey, Danny is half ghost and has a human girlfriend, can't Warde be fully human and have a ghost as his girlfriend? Okay maybe that was a bad comparison, but you get the point. Hopefully. See you next Friday!
