Chapter 60
Author PoV
"Jungkook, listen, she's caused enough in your life. You're CEO, not dad's representative!" Il-Do shouted at Jungkook.
They were having a heated talk when he came to see Jungkook.
With Il-Do disagreeing that Chaeyoung should be part of his younger brother's life. Even if he wants to support him with his love interests, the safety of Jungkook matters more.
He has to be something in his life.
Something that Jungkook has been taught for his whole life. Staying at the Top 1 spot in the company ranking all over Korea, is in his hands, and he can't just leave his work because of love.
"Hyung--she deserves a family--"
Il-Do threw his hands in the air, "Jeon Jungkook. Listen, I don't hate Chaeyoung-"
"But it sounds like--"
"Zip it," Il-Do commanded. "I don't hate her. But goddamit, Jungkook, you're a fucking 27 year old man, grow up! How much more damage are you going to receive?! She's an amazing person, I get it. But don't you think fate is telling, you aren't meant to be?"
Jungkook was left aback, "Hyung..I.."
"It's fine to still like her but Jungkook, learn how to let go of someone, for once. Like 5 years ago, if you had let Yuri leave for America, she would've been alive and happily married with you!" Il-Do snapped. "Learn, Jungkook, learn!"
The tears of Jungkook flowed down his cheeks, his eyes turning red.
It's true.
If he actually just allowed Yuri to go then the 'what ifs' he has been thinking about would've been real. But at the same time, if those 'what ifs' of his came true, then he wouldn't have met Chaeyoung or even had Jiyoon.
Jungkook grits his teeth, "Yuri is a different discussion..leave her out of this."
"Oh, my god, Jeon Jungkook!" Il-do brushes his hair, frustratedly. "When will you learn how to quit?! Huh? Until your hurt? Are you going to forbid Chaeyoung-ssi of her rights?! This is exactly how it happened, Jungkook! This is 5 years ago, but with a different girl and a different situation! Why can't you understand that she's been messing your life?! Because it's love?! Tell you what, Jungkook, it isn't love, it's a fucking dream!"
Jungkook shot his teary eyes to his hyung, "You don't know how it feels, hyung! You don't know how it feels to love a person dearly! You don't know the feeling of wanting someone in your arms, but just cannot because of who you are!"
Il-Do looks at his brother. Still frustrated on how Jungkook can't see the bigger picture of his career, or his future. Doesn't mean he's in his later 20s, he can do whatever he wants. All Il-Do wants is the best and good thing for Jungkook.
But at the same time Il-Do snapped at Jungkook.
"Then learn how to fucking let go!" Il-Do pointed at Jungkook. "Learn how to accept things that your reality in your tiny ass world cannot accept. You're a man, not a fucking child. Snap out of this imagination and stop thinking about your dreams!"
"Hyung, I can't let her go--" Jungkook shook his head.
"Is she so fucking precious, that you can't last a moment without her?!" Il-Do shouted with his eyes wide.
Jungkook nodded, "Eo, that's how much I love her! And our child needs a complete family too, you can't strip her off of that need!"
As Jungkook gasps while crying, Il-Do looked at him still with his eyes wide.
Where is the Jungkook who has moved on with love? The one who declines arranged marriages because he doesn't need it yet? Why's it so hard for him to let go of her?
"Yuri would've been alive, I know. She went to the airport, with regrets and asked the driver to turn the car towards my apartment," he wiped of his tear. "There was a cargo truck exiting the airport check point and the car wasn't seen in the dark. She was seated at the passenger seat, where the truck damaged the car most. That's the truth of her death. But history doesn't alway rewrite, I'm sure that Chaeyoung is that one person fit for me."
"She's a doctor, right?"
Jungkook nodded.
Il-Do sighed, "Instead of her operating, Kook, think about this. What if she's the one operated on because of you. In the end, she'll bring you more pain than the pain she brought you now. She ran off to her ex, hid your child from you, had you worried sick, and killed you silently more than a hundred times. And you? You think, she still deserves you? She doesn't. You deserve someone who isn't dumb when it comes to critical moments."
"Look where the hell she brought you, Jungkook! You're the head of the family, the future of the family, the President and CEO of the business! It's time to stop this theatrical drama and start living the real world. If she's hurt you 10 times than what you did to her recently, leave her. You'll be the one on your knees, crying and hurting," Il-Do spoke.
"I accept Jiyoon in the family, but she is not to be involved with her daughter's livelihood anymore. But my point here is, if someone has hurt you more than 2 times already, why are you still staying? Why are you still allowing her to do so to you? Are you not human?" he went closer to Jungkook. "You're my little brother, this is why I'm doing this. Seeing Seungmin disabled, hurts me. And seeing you act like a bulletproof glass..makes me want to protect you. So leave her for the betterment of her life, yours and Jiyoon's."
Both of them stared at each other for a few seconds.
Jungkook got slapped by reality because Il-Do is right.
She's caused him more damage than him to her. Why is he still allowing this to happen? There were many times he had a chance to fully leave her, and still he chose to love her.
His heart broke with the reality he's facing. The real reason why Il-Do was so pissed at Jungkook was because of this. Firstly, he wasn't putting effort to his new job at all. Second, he's allowing a girl to damage him. Like it was some kind of League of Legends match.
Then, the hospital room's door opened. Revealing Chaeyoung, carrying a clipboard and looking happy.
"Good morning!" Chaeyoung smiled and suddenly straightened up then bowed. "Do-oppa, annyeonghaseyo!"
Il-Do and Jungkook only looked at Chaeyoung.
She felt uncomfortable with the situation and started to sweat.
"Did I barge in an important conversation?" she asked.
"You didn't," Il-Do said and turned to Jungkook. "That's a nicer way of stating it."
He walked out of the room, and brushed his shoulder against Chaeyoung's, accidentally.
Chaeyoung looked at Jungkook with a questioning look.
Did I screw something up? She thought.
But then she smiled when she faced Jungkook. He smiled back, to not give her a worried look. Especially because she looks happy today, happy to see him getting well.
Jungkook pointed at the chair that was next to the hospital bed.
"Sit down, yeah?" he asked her.
She sat down on the chair, like what he asked her to do. Then she placed the clipboard on top of the machine and looked at Jungkook.
"Is there something you wanna say?" she asked, snapping Jungkook back as he was staring at her.
"Chaeyoung-ah, hyung was only concerned of Jiyoon's childhood. He agrees that she needs to grow up in a complete family."
"So you weren't having a serious, all-about-the-business talk?"
He shook his head, "No, we weren't. But in relation to what me and hyung talked about, I planned things out."
"What do you mean, you've planned things out?" her brows furrowed.
"So Jiyoon can live in a complete family, I need you to be with me. Let's start out together, talk things through and be a complete family. We can learn more about each other, attend to Jiyoon together and more. Then, quit your job here and be full-on with me, get married, have another kid and be happy," Jungkook said.
But as soon as he said to quit her job as a doctor, her smile faded.
"Are you saying that..I have to stop being a doctor, once I decide to marry you? To just waste whatever I've achieved in my life just for you? For this?" she asked.
Jungkook nodded, "This has to work out, no matter what, Chae, we have to work out."
She started to get teary, as well. The puffed eyes on Jungkook started to get red again because of their conversation.
"How in the world do you expect me to stop being a doctor? This person is not Park Chaeyoung without my degree's name. I'm only Roseanne Park in real life, and that girl? She's weak, she doesn't need to be recognized--"
"Is there a problem to that plan?" Jungkook cut her off, his eyes begging her to say 'yes' at the same time covered with tears.
She gasped, "Where in your plan am I in?"
"Huh?"
"I heard it, Jungkook, I heard what you and your hyung talked about!"
"Chaeyoung--"
She stood up, covered her eyes with her palm and placed her hand on her waist, "I want to do it. I want to be with you, but your brother's right. I am damage and I've caused too much! Even if your plan will work, and you're happy, how about me? Will I be happy if it does? Or will everything that I've worked so hard for just vanish?"
"Is this the way you want things to be?"
"No, Jungkook! Of course not! My whole life, I wanted to be someone who can make her parents proud, and I ended up loving that someone. I ended up loving to be a doctor. I meet you, and you ask me to give up on the someone I love? Because of..our love?"
"I never see you as a person who's hurt me more than a million times. If I hurt you 2 or 3 days ago, then what about those 3 weeks that I've been hurting? I don't want you to stop being a doctor, but if it means you to be with me for the rest of our lives, I need you to."
She gripped on her hair and brushed it, "Jungkook, there are other ways than your plan!"
"Like what?"
She shrugged her shoulders, "Not marrying? Be parents to Jiyoon not as a married couple?"
"How involved do you want me to be in her life? Leave our problems out of that question."
"I want you to be fully involved."
"For me to do that, you have to be involved too."
"With our problems now, you think I should still be involved?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Me too."
"I love you, Park Chaeyoung."
"But we can't love each other, no matter how much we want it."
"Is this how we'll end it?"
"You can always call me if she needs something."
"That's not what I asked."
"This is for the best."
"Don't hurt after this."
"Goodbye, Jeon Jungkook."
"Goodbye," he stopped. "Roseanne Park."
Chaeyoung bowed down and walked out of his room.
-----

just joking.
and this is not how they'll end it, trust me.
the next chapters will be happy, and a mixture of sad.
