Chapter 40

"Now your house looks more decent," Jungkook smiled.
After church, Jungkook took Jiyoon and Chaeyoung for brunch since Chaeyoung hasn't eaten breakfast yet. When Chaeyoung told him about her plan to change the house design, he immediately brought her to his friend that designed his apartment's interior.
Even if it's a Sunday, Jungkook dragged Chaeyoung to at least make her place good looking and not some creepy house that actors can film scary movies in it.
When Chaeyoung and Jiyoon were dropped off their house, they both were shocked on how Jungkook's friend redesigned the house.
The old things were brought to his friend's house designing store and they will turn her old things to something new and sell it. Nothing changed inside, only that the furniture made it so fancy.
Especially the kitchen and the rooms. There were more cabinets, and a brand new sofa.
But who paid?
You guessed it, the rich, young and handsome CEO paid it.
It only took the people to change the house in 1 afternoon, whereas Chaeyoung would've done it in 2 weeks.
"I'll get going, what time will I pick Jiyoon up for school?" Jungkook asked.
"Uhm," Chaeyoung thought.
She didn't want to make him go to her house early in the morning just because Jiyoon has to go to school. She even lied to Jungkook that she won't go to work tomorrow.
She feels like she's being a burden to him. Even if he's the one insisting that he'll bring her to work and Jiyoon to school, and he says to just think of it as a 'friendly' gesture.
Her thoughts wanted to say that it's too much, and wants to ask him to stop. But Jungkook is a persistent guy, and what he wants, he gets.
"She leaves at 7:30," Chaeyoung answers. "And I'm not going to work, so it's alright."
Jungkook nodded, "Sure. I'll see you on Tuesday, then?"
"Tuesday?"
"Chae, it's the ball."
Chaeyoung slaps her head, "I forgot! Yeah! I'll see you on Tuesday!"
"Alright."
There was an awkward silence between them. And an awkward stare.
His hands were placed in his pockets, eyeing her like she's the only person in the world. While she looked at other places, trying to avoid his stare.
She felt really awkward with it.
2 confessions, and still not dating?
But it was also his call to take it slow. And it was also his fault why he needed to say that.
It's because she's scared.
She's scared that maybe she'll compare Jungkook to Junhoe. She's scared that if they break-up she will never rise up again. She's scared that he'll be stressed out with her because her job requires full commitment.
And yet, he's the one comforting her, and making sure he'll understand. But she still can't make herself believe in his words.
"I'll see you soon then," he smiled at her.
He stepped forward and gave her a big bear hug.
"Promise to be mine someday, alright?" he asked her.
"Thank you for everything, Kook," she hugged her back.
He rubbed her back and broke the hug then quickly turned around and stepped out of her house.
"Sleep well, Chaeng," he said before opening his car.
Chaeyoung leaned on the door wall as she sees Jungkook's car leaving the street where she lives in.
"'Be mine someday', huh? What did I do to even deserve a man like him?" she chuckle. "Jiyoon? Come downstairs and drink your milk!"
"Eomma!" Jiyoon stomped down the stairs.
"Eo, wae?" Chaeyoung closes the door.
"Marry Jungkook-appa!!!"
Chaeyoung put her hand on her face and laughed, "Why do you say that all of a sudden?"
"Appa gave me a nice room!! And his friend even said I look like him!" the little girl smiles.
Chaeyoung lifted Jiyoon on the chair and puts a glass of milk in front of her.
"Ani, your Jungkook-appa is just doing a favor. And you look like me not him, don't tell me you share the same blood," Chaeyoung laughed. "Now, sleep early after this, your appa will pick you up for school tomorrow."
Jiyoon lifted her glass, "Just marry Jungkook-appa, eomma!!!! I want him to be my papa!!!!!"
"Ask your granny and granpops first."
"Granny and granpops will surely agree! Jungkook-appa is good-looking," Jiyoon smiled and teased her mom.
"Aish, you," Chaeyoung ruffled the little girl's hair.
Jiyoon gulped the last sip of her milk, "Can appa and I have lunch together tomorrow? Before I go to piano classes?"
Chaeyoung nodded, "Alright. Tell him that before you go to school."
"Okay!" she got off her seat and pulled out a little piece of paper that was placed in between her pajamas garter and her skin.
She placed it on the table, and ran up the stairs. Chaeyoung looked at her daughter, not understanding what's written on the paper.
Not to mention, how Jiyoon placed the paper inside her clothes and just gave it to her mom right after.
Chaeyoung assumed it was for her so she took the paper and opened it.
"Annyeong! My name is Park Ji Yoon! I only have my eomma because my appa is nowhere to be found. But I am not sad about it because I have Chanyeol-appa, Namjoon-appa, Grandpa Jinyoung, Grandpa Mason, Grandpa Hyun Suk, Yunhyeong-appa, Uncle Sojun, Uncle Jimin, Uncle Taehyung, Uncle-Il-Do and...my favorite, Jungkook-appa!!!! And of course, Jennie-eomma, Jisoo-eomma, Lisa-eomma and Aunty Alice.
My eomma works hard always. She's a doctor in Hye Jin Hospital and is a superhero! She saves lives everyday!! Eomma sometimes doesn't go home but it's alright because she tells me that she loves me very much.
It's okay for me to not have an appa because Jungkook-appa tells me that my eomma is good enough for me. A lot of kids tell me that my appa doesn't love me because I only my eomma.
But that's alright! Jungkook-appa tells me that he's there for me instead of my real appa. And Jungkook-appa is a lot better! He always takes me to lunch, brings me to toy stores, buys me teddy bears, helps me with my homework, takes me to his office, watches movies with me, go to Everland with me, buys me cotton candy and not tell mom, buys me clothes, teaches me English and Japanese, and my favorite memory is when he taught me how to ride a bike!!
So, I'm not sad that other kids have dads. I have one too!!!
Although my name is Park and not Jeon, he's still my appa!
Kurigo...my eomma should be happy. I know eomma doesn't like to come home a lot because of me, that's why I like to spend time with Jungkook-appa.
So to me, I live in a complete family!"
And a drawing on the bottom of the letter, with a teacher's signature saying a good job.
Chaeyoung frowned when Jiyoon wrote that she doesn't like to come home because of her.
Even if this place were filled with Chaeyoung's firsts, like kisses, beer, soju, and etcetera. It was true that Chaeyoung hated to come home from the hospital and take care of Jiyoon in the evening.
That was for the first 2 months of going back from maternity leave. After those 2 months, Jiyoon spoke the words 'eomma' and 'appa' which made her realize that Jiyoon is her everything.
It took time for her to realize, and now that she does treasure Jiyoon, her child feels like she's the mistake of Chaeyoung. Even if she were her mother's mistake, 5 years ago, it brought hidden blessings into her mom's life.
Who knew that after 5 years, Chaeyoung would meet a man who loved her more than herself? Loved her even if she has a child?
She's never yelled to Jiyoon that she was just a mistake, if she did so, Jennie would've slapped her. Instead, Chaeyoung thought of having a daughter is good. She made sure that her child won't grow up like how she did.
People teased her of not having a dad became a burden to her. As much as work has been a burden already, the thought of her daughter being bullied just because she doesn't have a dad became an issue as well.
She exhaled, heavily.
"The name fits, anyway," she folded the paper and cleaned Jiyoon's glass cup.
"Jeon.." she whispered to herself as she walked up the stairs.
