Chapter 3
Jungkook PoV
"No, Jungkook. Besides, I heard she's married," Namjoon-hyung told me.
I don't care. First, she seems very familiar to me and she glows different. Unlike other girls, she doesn't like men's attention. This doctor is very casual and doesn't give too much attention too.
As we walked, my hyung tells me that I should start eating healthy. I haven't had a day off from work and everything is meeting deadlines. Even my father has tried talking me out of sleeping in the office and try to get a massage or go to some spa.
Everybody thinks I'm a workaholic. Taehyung and Jimin have been staying with me the whole time and try to get me out of the swivel chair and see the whole world. Use the camera once more and take pictures, do what I love.
But Taehyung and Jimin also have their jobs, they're the eldest among siblings but my father appointed them as branch CEOs in our company. We grew up together, had school together and we've known each other since kindergarten.
As I walk a little slower than Namjoon, this part of the hospital sends me a happy vibe. It's the children's ward. Before, I had a friend named Yoongi, he was sick and he was the son of my family's maid. We were good friends, he studied in the school I did and he had higher grades than me.
One day, though, out of nowhere, he ended up bedridden and died in a provincial hospital. I know he isn't my brother, but he was more of a brother than Il-Do and Seunghan.
"Doctor Park! That was a brilliant operation!" Namjoon called out Doctor Park.
She stood up and asked the child to go play with her friends.
"Sunbaenim! Thank you, the skills were passed down from you," she smiled.
Namjoon pulled out his hand for a handshake and she replied with a handshake as well. She seems friendly, not feisty. Cute but not overly cute. I could tell she loves alcohol, specifically gin and scotch. I think she's a good treat.
"Ah, I forgot to introduce you to somebody," Namjoon pushed me next to him. "This my friend, Jungkook. His mother is the patient you operated. Jungkook, be nice and say hi."
I pulled out my hand for handshake, "Ms. Park, thank you for operating my mother. And you were extremely talented a while ago."
She shook back, "Thank you...Sir Jeon." She looked at hyung, "Sunbae, I'm kind of starving, would you like to eat with me?"
"Sure, can I bring my dongsaeng along? He asks too much questions, I think you should answer. And to think about it, it's been 5 hours since your operation has started. Must have taken a toll on you considering your feisty stomach," Namjoon laughed.
She laughed as well, "Sunbae, you don't have to embarrass me."
Chaeyoung PoV
Wait, what? This Jungkook guy is my sunbae's dongsaeng? To be honest, I don't like this guy. He's a fuck boy, I could tell that. He likes one night stands. He's easily angered. And I'm sure he's kind but with a different sense.
Namjoon-sunbae wanted him to come along since they're good friends and he's asking questions about his mother. I guess it's normal, and I should treat him like any other parent or family's who asks about their loved one.
I grab my tray with orders from the counter and thank Daisy, our cafeteria girl, for the yummy meal. Surprisingly, I wanted to treat my sunbae and his friend. Just a small act of kindness. And I walk to our seat by the window and place the trays in front of them.
But I realized, Jungkook is rich, he probably doesn't eat these kinds of foods.
"I'm sorry it isn't high classed, like what you eat everyday, but--" he cut me off.
He scoffed, "Ms. Park, with no offence, I would like to say that not every rich person would want to eat in a first class restaurant. Sometimes steak gets a little to overrated for your taste buds and a simple ham and cheese from a cafe is good enough for lunch. But I really appreciate your worry."
"Oh, I think I overestimated you. Sorry," I replied.
"Chaeyoung, why don't you sit. Let's talk about Jungkook's mother," sunbae told me.
As I sit down, I drink from my hot chocolate and take a bite from my ham sandwich.
"So, what did you want to ask about your mother's operation?" I asked Jungkook.
He wiped his hands with a tissue as he finishes his ham and cheese, "Well. First off, the payment wouldn't be a problem, again, no offence. But, how did you sense another clotting in my mother's body? Don't you need like a procedure beforehand?"
"Actually, yes, we do have a procedure before operations. Dr. Chou's team could still operate even if it weren't a heart disease because it is related to heart diseases. But when we had a meeting before the operation, I recalled Dr. Choi said your mother is a heavy drinker and smoker. And I wondered why aren't there any clotting in her arteries," I paused. "And I try to envision it, where could the clotting be."
"I told you, Kook, she's more amazing than I," sunbae tells him.
"But that's impossible. You couldn't just hypothesize things like that on the spot," he doubts.
"It isn't if you try, Sir Jeon," I drank my drink. "But anyway, we scheduled your mother's next operation, we think it's best after 3 days. Until the medicine's fully worn off and she could rest a little. But we would like her to live a good lifestyle instead of alcohol and smoke. Do you smoke, Sir Jeon?"
He also drank from his water, "I don't. My father hates the smell and I personally am sensitive to the smell of things. But alcohol, yes, I drink but not as often as mother's."
Sunbae laughs and taps Jungkook's shoulder, "Don't lie. You own a restaurant and a bar. I'm sure you like to drink all the time."
Jungkook looks at him, "Yeah but considering the work load? I think coffee is best as of the moment. Besi--"
"Mommy! Mommy! There you are!" I heard Jiyoon calling my name.
I turned around to see my daughter wearing a nice lavender dress. She looked happy and is carrying her favourite stuffed animal, Ice Bear. Jiyoon loves that character from We Bare Bears.
And with all the timing, she comes with my sister. I guess Alice can't handle her when she wants me around in the house. How can I get mad at Jiyoon? I know she's having a rough time and does everything so she could see me in the hospital.
Jiyoon skips towards me and waves a 'hello'. When she arrives to us, she looked at the 2 men and asks me to carry her up the seat.
"Where's Aunty Alice?" I asked her.
"She's at the front desk with Uncle Chan and Aunty Jihyo. Aunty Alice met her old classmate from college, her name's Im Nayeon from the nurse station," she replies and looks at the 2 men. "Are you my mom's friends or one of you is her boyfriend?"
I covered her mouth.
"Jiyoon-ah, do you remember me?" sunbae asked.
She nods, "Yep, you're the person who gave me the book about vitamins. I wished you gave me the book about the 3 bears instead."
Jungkook looks at me, "You're married?"
"No, single mom," I told him.
I gave Jiyoon a bit of the cookie I bought from Daisy and gave her water.
Jiyoon coughed a little and looked at Jungkook, "Who are you? I haven't seen you before. Are you mommy's boyfriend?"
Jungkook leans forward, "I hope she was."
"So you aren't? That's sad. You look handsome. Mr, guess what?" Jiyoon looks at him.
"What?"
"I turned 5 today but I don't have daddy yet. Mommy and I don't know where to find for him."
"Is your name Jiyoon?" Jungkook asked.
And she nods to the question.
"What a beautiful name, I wanted my daughter to be named like that too. But your mommy seems like a strong woman and loves you so much. Don't go out and say that you hate her, okay?" he tells her.
"Arasso. Wow, Mr. you seem kind," she looks at me. "Can we go home now? Aunty Jennie went home early and Aunty Jisoo went out early too. And I want to read bed time stories. Let's go home!"
"Alright, alright. Let's go," I tell her. "Say good-bye to Uncle Joon and Uncle Jungkook."
"Uncle Joon, can you give me english books next time? I promise I'll read them," she smiles. "Bye-bye, Uncle Joon and Kook!"
I bowed to my sunbae and Jungkook, "Sunbaenim, I'll go ahead. Mr. Jeon, I'll see your mother tomorrow."
My daughter held my hand and swinged front to back. She thinks that holding someone's hand while walking is romantic. Often times, she hears it from those fairytale movies or those Disney Channel shows.
Jungkook..looked at her like a real daughter..why on earth do I feel like she likes him? Not romantically, but as a parent way. Going back to Jungkook, he oddly seems familiar and I wonder where I recognize him from.
When I thought that he might be Jiyoon's father, I felt the urge to meet him. But now that I did, I feel like he's only the uncle figure and not the father.
I don't know what's up with him.
I leave Jiyoon with the nurse station in the children's ward and I grab my things from my office. And for one last time, I walked to the ICU, where Mrs. Jeon is kept watch. And I see Jungkook and Il-Do discussing a heated topic from the robe room.
Jungkook looks like he loves his mother too much. He takes off the hair net, mask and robe and placed it in the blue basket and walks out of the room.
"What's your name again, Ms. Park?" he asks me while walking.
"Oh, uhm, Park Chaeyoung. My certificate goes with Park Roseanne," I answered him.
"Can I ask you out for dinner once in a while, Ms. Park? Not as a date but as a one-to-one meeting about my mother."
"S-Sure."
I heard him mumbled,"Thank you."
What was that for?
After looking at Mrs. Jeon once more, I walked to Jiyoon and decided to finally spend the rest of the evening as a mother. She's 5 years old, and I've reached my first milestone as a mom. With no man hanging by my side.
Well, yes. I've slept with some guys and Jiyoon ended up asking if they were her father. But ends up to be a one night only thing all the time. I don't blame her.
I'll find her father, someday.
I walk back to the nurse station and took Jiyoon with me, Alice said she wanted to stay a little longer. She's got a flight to Australia tomorrow afternoon, and I don't see the point of telling her to go home and fix her things.
As I lift Jiyoon to the front seat, and buckle her seatbelt she kept singing a song. I think it's a rhyme but it's sound beautiful. I closed the car door and run to the back seat and put all my things and go to the driver's seat.
"Mom," she asked.
"Yes, dear?"
"If I meet daddy, someday, do you think he'll recognize me? They say that all parents will recognize their children right away."
I looked at her and stroked her hair.
"Jiyoon-ah, remember, if daddy comes home, don't leave mommy alone, arasso? If daddy will take you away from mommy, don't forget mommy, okay?" I teared up a bit. "I promise, I'll try looking for daddy."
She pouted, "Mommy, why will I forget you? I told you many times before, daddy and mommy sitting on the tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G! We'll live together! And maybe I can ask for a little sister or brother."
"Maybe," I said. "Alright, let's go home. Rest up first, the drive will be long."
But I'm sure, Jiyoon can live a better life if she's with her father. I'm not a good mother, and I can never be as good as Jennie or any other mother. And if I do find that guy, or if ever I meet him again, I'll make sure Jiyoon's life will not be a ghost to him.
I'm ready to let her go if that's what he wants.
God, I'm the worst mother every!
