Chapter 15

“Cas?” Dean held the door long enough for the rest of them to enter the cabin. The door closed shut and it slightly darkened in the room.

Sam grabbed the curtains and pulled it open making the light shine into the room.

A small groan came from the corner of the room as soon as Sam pulled the curtain back. “Cas?” Dean’s voice was mixed with worry for his friend. Ever since his fall, Castiel’s been a bit of a drug addict. Actually a major druggie.

“Over here.” Castiel’s gruff voice called out.

Charlie and Becky hanged near the door while Dean and Sam tried to get Castiel together. Sam didn’t like seeing his former angel friend like this, it sometimes gave him a feeling of hopelessness. That even the angels, who were no longer in touch, were helpless against this situation.

“Hey buddy, are you okay?” Reaching for Castiel’s arm, Sam helped Dean pull Castiel onto a chair.

Okay was hardly the word he would use to describe the state he was in, “I’m fine. I got some news you should know.” Castiel glanced at Charlie and Becky and gestured for them to join.

Becky was a bit nervous to be around Castiel. Their last meeting wasn’t that pleasant though Sam did fill her in about the state Castiel was in right now.

“A powerful force has come into being. An nephilim.”

“Another one? Don’t we have enough problems with one right now?” Dean groaned sitting on the edge of the table.

Frowning, Sam asked, “I thought all the angels left.”

Castiel shook his head, “Not all of them. But this is different, she wasn’t just made into existence, she’s already been born. For some reason, she had been hidden from all angels, just recently a few felt her presence.”

“She?” Becky took a sit across from the ex-angel. And how could someone hide their existence from angels? Was that even possible? There was many things Becky still didn’t know about the supernatural world.

Charlie sat down and swung her legs onto the table. “I thought angels were supposed to be all knowing?” Her resurrection into this crazy world apocalypse hasn’t been an easy one as well as trying to caught up on all the things she’s missed since she was, well... dead. Sometimes, Charlie missed the continuous comic cons and meeting all her favorite characters.

“I don’t know how this being was hidden. But this could be very  bad. If Jean finds out, which she likely did, she will use that child.” Castiel didn’t care for much after the world had got to shit. But this was serious business, business even he couldn’t ignore.

Pondering in silence, Dean had the usual unreadable face as he processed this. Another nephilim had appeared. If they work this well, this could actually come into their advantage, but there was something weird about this. A tingy feeling of something that Dean couldn’t quite put his finger to, but it was telling him something was off.

“Maybe we can use her against Jean?” Sam suggested saying aloud what the others were thinking. But saying it and actually being able to do it was another thing. “How do we find her?”

That was a good question.

Castiel opened his mouth to say something when John burst into the cabin. “We have a problem.” He took note of the atmosphere and added, “Hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“No what’s wrong?” Dean already had his gun in his hand.

“There’s been a fight, with one of the scouts. They encountered another group and fought for the supplies.” John kept the door open but his muscles were alert and ready to run to fight for his people. His military training and medical experience had really come in handy when they first made base camp.

“Son of a bitch.” This was never a good thing. Dean knew this was bound to happen sooner or later with the supplies running out. He figured that some people would have the same idea as them and end up competing other survivors for it. “Where are they?”

John scratched his head, “Our people captured them.”

“They what?” Sam jumped up in surprise. He hated how desperate people got in times like these. Humans should help each other out. Not fight amongst themselves while everything else in the world was trying to kill them. “Are any hurt?”

Becky wondered what she was to do and helped Charlie up. Charlie had fallen out of the chair when John slammed the door open. “So what’s the plan chief?” The red-haired girl dusted herself off and smiled at Dean. Despite Dean’s usual nature of going solo, Charlie knew he was a major team player and one hell of a good leader.

“I’ll talk with them.” Dean didn’t like this at all. First a nephilim, now a squabble with other survivor.

Sam grabbed his jacket and his keys, “I’ll go with you.” It wasn’t that Sam didn’t trust his brother to handle things peacefully. He was worried that it might turn into a blood wash. “Becky, you and Charlie stay with Cas and find out more about this nephilim.”

“Will do.” Charlie playfully saluted Sam, who just smiled and shook his head.

“Oh Jean you made it!”

“Where’s Lily?” Jean threw her jacket to the side and rushed to the side of the crib. Inside, a baby with black hair was panting hard, face flushed red. “Hey Dorothea.” She put her hand on the baby’s forehead and closed her eyes. A warm light glowed from her hand and Dorothea’s face turned into a healthier color.

“Lily’s gone on a hunt.” The guy named Gabo, who was supposedly a descendant of the nobles who once lived here, no one knew for sure though. His medium chestnut hair was always messy and he wasn’t the most serious ones.

Jean cussed under her breath, that wasn’t good. “When are they due back?” She needed the mother present to proper heal Dorothea. Perhaps it was the angelic grace inside of her or something else occasionally it caused her temperature to build up.

“Uh…” Gabo scratched his head, “Actually they been due for quite a while.”

Dean and Sam walked into the field where the other group was being held. They were tied and at gunpoint, one of them had a bloody nose. “Alright at ease.” Said Dean signalling for his men to lower their guns. “Which one of you is the leader?”

The woman with black hair tied in a ponytail looked up, “That would be me.”

“Sam.”

Sam grabbed his pocket knife and freed the woman, “Here you go. Look, we’re sorry for all this.”

The woman rubbed her wrists and glared at the guards, “We just wanted some supplies for our camp. We have people to look after too you know.”

Hopefully this would end well. “How about we split? Half and half.” Dean suggested crossing his arms. He really didn’t want to fight other humans and right now he was more worried about that new nephilim than anything else.

“I think your people needs to pay for my peoples’ injuries.” The woman gestured her head towards one of her men with the bloody nose. “We’ll take two thirds of the loot.”

“Not gonna happen.” Dean scoffed, was this woman crazy? They barely had enough provisions to last them a week. They couldn’t afford to lose more. He and the woman glared at each other not breaking off the eye contact not wanting to seem weak.

Sam cleared his voice loudly turning everyone’s heads. “Dean, can I talk to you?” Just as Dean was about to step away leaving the group, the woman spoke up.

“Wait, please. We need the supplies. I have a baby back home.” The woman pleaded.

“Half. That’s all we can give you.” Sam said with a firm tone. It hurt him to be this harsh but it had to be done.

The woman slowly nodded, “Alright.”

Nodding at the guards to release the group, Dean then turned to leave. “Wait! We could really use some help back at our base. Would you be willing?”

“Sorry. We’re quite busy here too.”

The woman sighed, “Alright. The name’s Lily by the way. We’re about a hundred and seventeen miles down south, if you ever need help.”

“I’m Sam. That’s my brother Dean. We’re sorry we couldn’t be of more help.” Sam gently said and gave her a tight smile.

Smiling, Lily and the others began to leave. Most of the members of her group glared angrily at the guards and stomped away. Sam looked down and saw a picture on the ground. He picked it up, it was a picture of baby with black hair giggling. “Lily! This yours?” Calling out the picture to her, Sam held the picture out.

Lily frowned and checked her pockets frantically. “Oh god, yes thank you.” She took the picture and silently prayed placing a small kiss and putting it back in her pocket.

“I’m guessing that was your daughter you were talking about?” Sam said walking her out. For some reason, the baby in the picture seemed familiar.

“Yes. She’s a weak child, her body isn’t adapting easily to these conditions.”

“I’m sorry to hear that. Look if there’s anything you need, just contact us.” Sam handed her one of the satellite phone. “What’s her name?”

“Dorothea.”
