Chapter 38
"Wow!" Ira gasped, looking at a shiny black Rolls Royce, entering the campus. It was a new day and Ira by chance reached school sooner than usual and catched up with some of her classmates on the way. She was waiting for Ehan when the car entered.
Quickly closing her eyes, she gave herself the happiness of imagination. She imagined herself holding the keys of a similar car, bought from her own money. It gave her a delightful feel and she giggled.
Opening her eyes, she found Amber standing infront of her, slightly confused. She was looking as beautiful as everyday. She has applied minimal make up on her face, leaving her wavy red hair open. Her uniform well suited her slim figure and a classy red handbag was screaming her status.
"Hey, Ira. What's up?" She smiled at Ira.
"Hi Amber"
"Mind if I ask, why were you giggling at my car? Anything wrong with it?" Amber enquired.
"That's your car?" Ira asked, pointing at the car reversing to leave the campus.
"Yup!"
"I like it. It's fab" Ira honestly replied, smiling back at her.
"Oh! It's nothing. My parents have fantabulous cars. Hopefully I'll get a similar one next year. But for now, I can give you a ride in this, if you wish" Amber offered, turning back to stop her driver.
She sounds damn rich, Ira. Stay away from her. Thought Ira.
"That's so sweet of you. But I don't wish for a ride" she stopped Amber.
"Why? You said you like my car"
"I do. But it's just a... Nevermind. I'm just crazy" Ira waved her hand as nothing.
"And cute too" Amber gently pinched her cheeks, making her flash a smile.
"I wanted to ask, did you called Ehan yesterday?" Ira hesitantly questioned, looking behind to make sure that Ehan hadn't arrived yet.
"No. I was at a friend's party last night. Besides, I think he's not yet comfortable around me" Ira sighed hearing her reply, which didn't go unnoticed by Amber.
"Why? Did he asked anything about me?" There was a hope in Amber's eyes.
Ira quickly shook her head as no.
"Eh! Anyway, I'll see you after classes. Bye" she waved at Ira and turned her heels to leave.
Ira thought of stopping her and let her know that Ehan don't like sharing the table with her during lunch but she couldn't form a proper sentence to say it. She let her leave and turned to find Ehan staring at her from a little distance. She pouted, trying to convince him to let Amber eat with them but he shook his head as no and shrugged before leaving.
As he entered, he found his usual first row centre seat empty and he was glad for that. As he was about to make his way towards it, Amber blocked it and stood sheepishly smiling at him.
"I'm so sorry. I had no idea that this is your usual seat. Other classmates told me about it yesterday. It was so sweet of you letting me take it...."
"Can I take it now?" He asked straight away, cut her off.
"Sure. Please" she moved a little and gave him space to walk. He gladly took his seat but it lasted only for a few seconds, as Amber took the seat next to him. He mentally groaned. It was not the seat he was bothered about, it was her continuous blabbering which annoys him.
To his dismay, they had three classes together, throughout which Amber didn't let a chance pass without trying to talk to him.
---
"You didn't told her, did you?" Ehan asked Ira, who was looking at her shoes with her hands folded behind. She was wearing her most innocent look, which made Ehan chuckle.
"Stop trying to look so innocent" he pinched both her cheeks, making her look up at him with a delighted face.
"So you're okay with Amber joining us over lunch?" She asked, her eyes brightly shining at him.
"No" he shook his head, making her smile disappear.
"But, Ehan..."
"Let's eat somewhere else" he held her hand and dragged her out. She sighed in relief, thankful that he didn't forced her to inform Amber about his discomfort on her presence.
---
"Bye" Ira waved at Ehan, who dropped her back to school after having lunch at a nearby place.
"I'll pick you up" he said, taking steps back to leave.
"Ok" she smiled and made her way to Ms Bella's cabin. What she didn't expect was Amber standing on the stairs, narrowing her eyes at her.
"Errr... Hi Amber" Ira uncomfortably smiled.
"Where were you? I was waiting for you and Ehan at the cafeteria" she spoke in a complaining tone, looking somewhat angry.
"We... Actually, we were bored of the food served in cafeteria. So we went out to try something else" Ira lied, stuttering.
"You should have take me along" Amber said, huffing.
"Yes. Take you along and make Ehan angrier. You're the sole reason he wanted to eat somewhere else" Ira thought.
"I'm sorry. I didn't thought of it"
Sighing, Amber said, "It's ok. But don't do this again. Take my number and call me whenever you make such plans" she gave her number to Ira, who with the least interest, saved it in her mobile.
"Ok. I'm getting late now. Bye" she smiled at Amber and made her way to Ms Bella's cabin.
---
Holding a bunch of documents, Ira came out of Ms Bella's cabin. She was asked to photocopy those documents and she was on the way to the office downstairs.
When she neared, she noticed Amber sitting outside the Deen's cabin. As soon as she noticed Ira, she walked to her.
"Hey! What's all these?" She asked, pointing at the papers Ira held in both her hands.
"Ms Belly needs some copies of these papers" Ira replied, walking ahead.
"Belly" Amber laughed, walking with her.
"Looks like it's heavy. Lemme carry some" she took some of the papers from Ira and accompanied her.
"What are you doing here, by the way?" Ira asked out of curiosity, keeping the papers on the table near the xerox machine.
"I had to complete a few formalities, since I'm new here" Amber answered, copying Ira's actions.
"All done?"
"Not yet. Deen is in a meeting. So I was asked to wait for a few minutes"
Ira kept the papers one by one over the scanner and pressed the button for the number of copies required.
"Ira, tell me something about Ehan" Amber said, helping her by collecting the copies.
"Errr... What should I say?" Ira uncomfortably asked, knowing Ehan's reaction when he'll get to know about it.
"Whatever you know. I'm just going crazy over him. His ignorant and introvert nature is making me run behind him. I just wanna know him more and more. You know, I couldn't sleep at night"
Ira gasped at her last sentence, "why?" She asked instantly.
"Because I keep thinking of him. Ira, please, you're the only one who could help me" she held Ira's hands, who looked obviously confused. Her face showed that she didn't understand what Amber actually meant but still, she nodded.
"Thank you so much. You're a real sweetheart" Amber hugged Ira, rocking her sideways.
---
"Ira, use that diary. How many papers are you going to tear from your notebook?" Ehan asked as Ira handed him a piece of paper on which she had noted about the given homework.
"I'll use that later, to write something beautiful" Ira replied, keeping her eyes fixed at her book. Ehan shook his head, not understanding her strange excuses.
"Ehan, can you explain me this?" She forwarded her physics book, pointing at a particular topic.
"Sure"
They engaged themselves in explaining and learning the concept of electromagnetism. Ira was feeling it difficult as always and Ehan was using his natural skills to make her understand in a simplest possible way.
"The next thing you should keep in mind is that...." Ehan's mobile went off, cutting him off.
Without checking the caller ID, he swiped the screen and pressed the mobile to his ear. He probably gets calls by only three people; Ira, Lily and lawyer Smith. Ira was with him and lawyer Smith usually calls at the beginning of every month to check on him. The only one remains was Lily. So he exclaimed, "Hey Lily!"
"Who's Lily?" Came a sweet feminine voice from the other end. He pulled the mobile away from his ear and looked at screen, frowning.
"Who's this?" He asked, pressing the mobile back to his ear. Ira looked up from her book, narrowing her eyes.
"Amber" came the reply.
"Amber?" Ira's eyes widened as he repeated what he heard. He glanced at her, whose wide eyes suddenly lowered and glued to the book.
"Hi, Ehan. Actually, I was getting bored so I thought..." He didn't really heard what she was saying, since his eyes were boring holes on Ira, who wasn't even looking up at him.
Without responding to what Amber was asking or speaking, he hanged up. Ira looked at him through her eyelashes and quickly looked down when she found him glaring at her.
She just wished to became invisible for a few minutes, atleast until Ehan's anger disappears.
"You gave her my number?" He asked in an unusually normal tone. She didn't replied, instead flipped the page and pretended not to hear him.
"Ira, I'm asking you something" he c shut the book, nearing her. She kept looking at the closed book and he spoke in a smooth voice, "Answer me, I won't say anything"
She quickly looked up and nodded as yes. He was calm but his eyes were glaring at her, making her gulp.
"Why?" He asked with gritted teeth. "Didn't I told you, I don't like her?"
"I'm sorry. She almost begged and I couldn't say no" she spoke in her most innocently low voice.
"She begged and you couldn't say no, really Ira? What else did you told her about me?" He asked in an angry yet calm tone.
Before Ira could answer, door bell rang. They both looked at the door, then at eachother. Ira gulped, making Ehan narrow his eyes.
Standing up from the floor, he made his way to the door. Twisting the knob, he pulled the door open. His eyes narrowed and widened in a split second as a red haired, green eyed beauty came in sight, smiling widely at him.
"Hi" Amber said, stepping in, making him take a couple of steps back. Ira's eyes went wide hearing Amber.
"I was just passing by. So I thought why not meet you..." She stopped mid sentence when she spotted Ira.
"Hi" she said in a suprised tone, smiling at Ira.
"Hi" Ira forced herself to smile, which faded as soon as Ehan's blazing eyes met hers.
"I wasn't expecting you here" Amber said, making her way to Ira. She noticed her holding a small box. Ira mentally cried, making out what's inside and Ehan's reaction on it, who was still glaring at her.
"Why are you sitting on the floor?" Amber kept the box on the coffee table and asked Ira, who was pleadingly looking at Ehan. She noticed Ehan's hard stare on Ira.
"Anything wrong, guys? I'm sorry if I..."
"No Amber. It's perfectly fine" Ira spoke cutting her off but Ehan's expressions quite didn't match with what Ira said.
"Please, have a seat" Ira forced a smile, pointing at the sofa. As soon as Amber turned, Ira gave a pleading look to Ehan, who shook his head as no, keeping his stare hard. Anyhow, she managed to melt him with her pleading eyes and he came towards her. Amber took a seat, adjusting her floral dress.
Ehan offered his hand to Ira, who was sitting on the carpet. She, not understating what he was upto, gave her hand. He helped her stand up and lead her to the sofa. Amber's smile turned smaller as she kept looking at them. He took the single sofa and grabbed the book from table.
Smiling again, Amber took up the box and forwarded to Ehan, "this is for you".
He looked between the box and her, just not wanting to accept it. When he didn't made an attempt to accept it, Ira pushed the box to him, making him forcefully hold it. She gave him a cheeky smile and asked, "What's in it, Amber?"
"Black forest cake, Ehan's favourite"
If he was glaring at Ira then, he started shooting daggers at her. Ira gave him an apologetic look, forcing a smile.
Why do you have to tell her everything, Ira? He clenched his teeth, thinking.
"Thank God I got some extra slices. You can have too" Amber said, taking the box from Ehan and opening it.
"Ira, could you get us some plate...."
"No. I'm leaving" Ehan stood up, making Amber look at him with furrowed brows.
"Where?" She asked.
"To get us some snacks. I'm ok with any milkshake you like, Ehan" Ira covered up, earning another glare from him.
"And you, Amber?" Ira asked.
"I would like a diet cok..."
He didn't wait for her to complete and left, increasing Amber's doubts.
"Are you sure he have no problem with me?" She asked Ira, who was uncomfortably smiling at her.
"Errr... Ofcourse" she forced a smile.
"Doesn't look so. Anyway, where's Ehan's parents? You didn't said anything about them"
"His parents.... " They both jumped on their places hearing a bang outside. Ira could understand where it came from.
"What's that?" Amber stood up followed by Ira.
"Nothing. You please stay here. I'll be back" Ira ran out of there, closing the door behind her.
There stood a furious Ehan, holding basketball.
"Ehan, I'm sorr...."
"I want her out right away" he hissed, cutting her off.
"But..."
"Right away, Ira. RIGHT AWAY" His angry words made her gulp and she took a step back.
"Go" he pointed at the door.
She took slow steps back, glancing at him on every step. When she reached the door, she turned back and pouted, pleading him. He shook his head as no, making her push the door open and walk inside.
He sighed, throwing the ball in frustration.
